This is from pluggedinonline.com

Despite what's been "reported," your Left Behind units do not easily form into some kind of roving militia intent on killing non-believers. In fact, there are no missions in the game aimed at causing a war or killing others. You train up soldiers only to defend your people when Carpathia starts sending in the big guns.
Yes, you're offered sniper rifles, gun turrets, even tanks and helicopters. And there are points at which a gun battle is necessary to avoid a massacre. (When this happens, there's no gore. Units fall to the ground and fade away.) But if you go in guns blazing, nine times out of 10 you fail.

So, as usual, the thought of Christians defending themselves
when being attacked is considered horrifying, how dare they. Roll over and play dead, while your family and country get massacred, that must be the only way to be a "good Christian".

Starcraft's where it's at. And quite frankly, there's nothing more fun than running an Iron-Curtain-covered set of Libyan Demolition Trucks into an enemy's base and watching them self destruct.

For RTS, my money is on Age of Empires. That's a fun game. I've also been looking into Medieval II.

For war games, nothing beats Battlefield II. I've also enjoyed Call of Duty II and III, but, in online play, too many people want to play sniper, which just gets annoying. Battlefield makes battle more realistic where the people have to choose a variety of positions (Engineer, Medic, Special Forces, etc) for a team to win. Gears of War is interesting, and I'm enjoying playing through it, but I haven't started to love it yet. The like I have for it could develop into love over time though...we'll see.

I tend to prefer RPG's such as Zelda (all of them, but, currently Twilight Princess) and Final Fantasy XII (what an epic!).

For a quick pick up game, nothing gets the blood pumping like Wii boxing.

And, for mindless killing (if that's actually what the Left Behind game involves), I much prefer Grand Theft Auto. Nothing makes you laugh quiet like your character saying "Don't blame me. Blame society." as he pulls some poor motorist out of their car.

I don't know why the huge fuss; its a specialized game for a specialized audience. Heck GTA gets less bad press then this game does. The left behind series is also specialized for people who like christian fiction. I'm Jewish, I don't care. I'm not going to buy it not because it offends my jewish nature but because it has absolutely no interest to me whatsoever. Same goes with the left behind series, it had no interest to me as a Jew but Im not going to claim they should be burned because they offend me.

This is honestly one big "WHATEVER!" moment that people really take way out of proportion

You know, it's amazing how seriously some people take the fictional "Left Behind" story. I suspect these same people would tell conservative Christians to not take certain other novels, movies and video games so seriously. Sheesh!

This whole series (I have read parts) is a complete crock. Old P.T. was right.

The other one is "The Purpose Driven Life". What a bunch of drivel that is, talk about the dumbing down of America. (I am probably just jealous--wish I had thought of stringing together a bunch of pablum and making millions off of it).

while members of the antichrist(devil) certainly are not Christians....it is certainly different than saying they are killing non-Christians which would include a much broader swath of people. Sort of like calling abortionists pro choice...hah.

If anyone read the series then they would know what this is all about. So if you didn’t read the series, either go read it and know what the story is behind the game OR don’t talk about things you cannot possibly understand.

I've read a few books of the series, but quickly grew bored with the almost complete lack of character development and the terrible dialogue.

Esthier's comments are spot-on as to why I find this game troubling - they've sacrificed good theology for the sake of gameplay and are giving a distorted view of Christianity and conversion.

What's not to understand? <strike>Muslims</strike> Christians are killing non-believers. It's pretty cut and dried.

Oh, and they regain points by <strike>answering for their crimes</strike> praying.

(Sorry if this is a dupe).

The whole Left Behind series takes place in the "end times". A large majority of Christianity believes in the rapture, which this is after. At which point those who are "left behind" are preparing for the anti-christ. So as much I think premillinialism is wrong :P I'd still have to defend the game and say the game doesn't at all encourage any of those things. Because for one, in the eyes of the game creators, all the Christians already got raptured up. The game takes place in a sort of "oh shit we have a second chance to get saved scenario." ;)

Yawn. Clearly a twist game far from the foundations Christ put forth. Now if the game had a more fitting Muslim theme it would be honest but then CAIR would be suing EVERYONE.

So is no one else playing Final Fantasy XII?

But yeah, this video game is stupid and offensive to Christians.

If I want to play a violent video game, I'll play Grand Theft Auto. They should be coming out with a new one soon, and yeah it all works the same there too. If you kill a certain amount of people, you get police stars which go away if you do a few things.

But I don't even like the "converting" part. Conversion is something people do to themselves. Christians can help a person understand what that means, but Christians cannot "convert" nonbelievers. That part in and of itself is offensive.

I played the original Shogun version, and dug it very much. Something about having 5,000 samurai per side squaring off in the snow gets the mind going.

Shogun was way cool; I just had a booger of a time trying to figure out the units and what their specialties were...reading a bit would have helped..:)
As for Crusades, in the original Medieval, if you played as a Christian country, you couldn't make war on other Christian countries or you risked ex-communication. My father got around this in a rather novel way by doing away with the pope and installing one under his control when he played as the Germans. During the course of the game, crusades are called on the Muslim countries...and the Mongols appear at a certain point and generally beat the snot out of everybody.
I remembered something else about the left behind game that a buddy of mine (works at Electronics Boutique) mentioned; he claimed that when you 'convert' someone, their skin color changed (to white). If that's true, I think the designers got some real tough questions to answer.

Larry Boy and the Bad Apple is a decent one on the PS2

Oooo. I forgot about that. My kids would love that for Christmas! Say what you will about me, I unabashedly admit that I probably watch Veggie Tales almost as much as my kids do.

I played the beta of this game and even had a chance to talk to one of the developers over TeamSpeak with an online christian gaming ministry I belong to. All it does is portray a very possible scenario of what will happen during the end times according to Revelation. Yes, believers in Christ will be sought out and killed. Yes, they will have to defend themselves. Yes, hopefully they will convert some of those that are trying to kill them.

Don't like the idea? Don't buy the game. The people upset over this are just upset because they don't like to think about which side they'd be on in such a scenario. If this game made you think about it, then it has done its job.

IMO the whole Left Behind concept is elitist escapism. “You’re gonna be Left Behind (when the shit hits the fan) and we’re not! Better get with the program, or else!!!”

infidel4life on December 13, 2006 at 12:42 AM
Machiavelli said that one shouldn't trust exiles. He also said that if one wishes to acquire a territory, one should provide one's enemy an easy way to flee, but leave one's own soldiers no way to flee.

But I do get energized over tired, retread, stupid sh1t like EnochCain’s remark. But now I sense the moment has passed. EnochCain, that’s just too stupid to bother with.
