I tried to do better for you but this quickie from Fox is the best I could come up with. Too bad. Sounds like the event was a barnburner.

According to the student news agency ISNA, Ahmadinejad responded to the students’ chants of “students can die but they do not accept degradation” by lashing out at the United States.

“Today, the worst type of dictatorship in the world is the American dictatorship which has been clothed in human rights,” he said.

“Our students are free and they fight and die but do not accept the foreigners’ missions or bend to them,” he added.

“It is my honour to burn for the sake of the nation’s ideals and defend the system,” Ahmadinejad was quoted as telling protesters who set fire his picture, ISNA said.

“Americans must know that even if Ahmadinejad’s body is burnt a thousand times for this purpose, Ahmadinejad will not retreat even a centimetre from these ideals.”

The Iranian president’s speech was also interrupted by firecrackers, ISNA said.

Judging from the posters visible in the video, the pro-regime students outnumbered the dissidents pretty substantially. It takes a brave man to stand up in this situation; god bless the few who did.

The sign reads, “Fascist president, Polytechnic is not your place.”

I’m surprised this made it out of the auditorium and onto the airwaves. That’s encouraging, at least.

Update: A little more than halfway in, you see one student in the foreground hold up a piece of oaktag with “Israel” on it. If you freeze the frame, you can make out “Israel should be whipped [sic] off”. The rest of the message is out of frame but I’m sure we can all guess how it went.

Blowback

Finally the phrase “speaking truth to power” has meaning.

KelliD on December 11, 2006 at 2:48 PM

“Americans must know that even if Ahmadinejad’s body is burnt a thousand times for this purpose, Ahmadinejad will not retreat even a centimetre from these ideals.”

Question, When speaking Farsi, does referring to yourself in the third person make you crazy?

BohicaTwentyTwo on December 11, 2006 at 2:52 PM

Bingo KelliD, speaking out in a regime that will do more to you than give you a trespassing citation( hear that Case’s mom?) takes some true courage.

bbz123 on December 11, 2006 at 2:53 PM

More of this, please.

Lord bless and protect those who stand up to that evil dictator.

Tony737 on December 11, 2006 at 2:54 PM

Firecrackers?

Nice.

Readymade on December 11, 2006 at 2:56 PM

bet this guy is dead allready. May God give him peace!

Is some surprised? “They,” in “their” wisdom lowered internet speed for the country into the area of dialup and blocked youtube!

A formula for student unrest if I ever saw one!

Dread Pirate Roberts VI on December 11, 2006 at 2:58 PM

I like to think we’re exporting a little unrest into Iran for a change, but i don’t know if we have the huevos to do that.

Those guys actually should get the 72 virgins… for having balls that big.

Maybe it was staged to demonstrate his “tolerance”.

I guess this means that college kids are liberal douchebags throughout the world. Just because we have the same enemy, does that make us friends?

OSUDan on December 11, 2006 at 3:27 PM

Awesome. I hope we see more news like this. “Death to the dictator” indeed.

Remember that The Ayatollahs just pushed up the vote for Iranian President.

That this got on the air isnt a surprize.

To quote Cagney “Wheels within wheels within wheels”

William Amos on December 11, 2006 at 3:49 PM

I wonder if this is part of a larger, sustained protest movement by some students at of the University of Tehran. I dug up this story about a similar protest last November, in which the students were protesting the new University President - appointed by Mahmoud.

Is this a well known expression? I love it!! (Exactly what does it mean?)

Is “hog boiling” anything like a pig pickin’?

Dinsdale Piranha on December 11, 2006 at 4:37 PM

I guess this proves the MSM and AP are un-biased.

What? that is from Fox News…nevermind.

Like this man, or this woman, 2 of hundreds who took the chance of standing against the tide, and paid the price.

THeDRiFTeR on December 11, 2006 at 6:47 PM

Bonjour/soir Drifter - I like to have the loyal opposition on all boards, for the exchange of ideas.

However, to equate the heckling of a U.S. President or candidate for the presidency with students standing up to a dictator, at the risk of life, is really, really not grasping the magnitude of the risk.

Entelechy on December 11, 2006 at 7:01 PM

Um, the Iranian president was elected. Call him what you like, but he won an election. More than I can say for our Saudi allies.

jman on December 11, 2006 at 3:26 PM

I sincerely hope not. I hope this is the real deal because it’s about the only option we have that doesn’t include bombing.

THeDRiFTeR on December 11, 2006 at 7:19 PM

A STAGED election with the Ayatollahs hand picking the candidates. They I think picked Imadamndijin thinkig the population wouldnt vote for that nut over a “moderate” Ayatollah.

The people in Iran would have voted for the devil over another ayatollah.

Er, not to show my backcountry roots, but when a hog is butchered, the carcass is dipped int scalding water to help get the bristles off so that the skin can be used.

Lonevoice on December 11, 2006 at 8:35 PM

This video shows why Iran can’t just be Nuked to Glass. The silent majority has never fit better. There are so many more good people there than bad, it makes it difficult to deal with an ass like amadinnerjacket.

R D on December 11, 2006 at 8:52 PM

Don’t you just love how the facist MSM just idolizes the dictators: From the fist pic posted above,

A student shouts slogans to disrupt a speech by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at Amirkabir university in Tehran December 11, 2006. Dozens of Iranian students burned pictures of President Ahmadinejad and threw firecrackers in an effort to disrupt his speech at a university on Monday, a presidential office spokesman said. It was first time the president, elected in a landslide in June 2005, had faced such open hostility at a public event.

Seems to me they used similiar accolaids for the 99% that voted for Hussien. S**theads.

auspatriotman on December 11, 2006 at 8:56 PM

Wow! First we hear the mullahs want to speed up the presidential elections, and now this. Looks like Ahmadummyjerk isn’t long for his position. Could be those polls on his popularity were spot on.

And then this:

“Today, the worst type of dictatorship in the world is the American dictatorship which has been clothed in human rights,” he said.

What a complete hypocrite. By the way, those conservatives in the audience were actually bussed in according to a Fox News report on Shep Smith’s show this evening.

thedecider on December 11, 2006 at 9:13 PM

Iranian ’students’ have a beef with Ahmadinejad because
http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/09/05/news/Iran_University_Purge.php
it was reported by International Herald Tribune that he wanted to ‘purge’ university faculty and replace them with fundamentalists instructors and administrators.

I missed this earlier. Does this guy?, have a clue? Musta been one of them “douchebags” himself.

R D on December 12, 2006 at 12:49 AM

To mix metaphors, Mahmoud is just the organ-grinder ayatollahs’ trained monkey and attacking at him is like punching a ventiloquist’s puppet that insults you.

I hope, if this is not a faked “protest”, that the students involved have false papers and a good way out of town prepared.

Otherwise they’ll end up like the WW II anti-Hitler student group “The White Rose”.

profitsbeard on December 12, 2006 at 1:01 AM

Contrary to popular belief, you can be Iranian and opposed the Iranian President. He is an elected official after all and not a dictator. No one will lose their head over this. Had that been the Supreme Leader then things would probably be quite a bit different.

NPP on December 12, 2006 at 2:03 AM

Here we have the notsoMSM doing story after story and authors doing book after book, spouting about the ‘oppression’ of the Bushies and the threat that the Bushies pose to all America.

In Iran we have REAL stories. Stories of real people in real danger for speaking their minds. Here the notsoMSM could have Pulitzer Prize after Pulitzer Prize exploring the underground in Iran. Oh, but that would be making the west’s case against Islamofacism. We can’t have that.

Sorry notsoMSM. Didn’t mean to call you a bag of horsepotatos. I’ll go back to beleiving the NSA is the real enemy.

Limerick on December 12, 2006 at 10:14 AM

NPP, if you really believe in that election, you can be sold anything.

Just one ex. - those goons that beat up the students or anyone who opposes this dictator are all from other parts of the country or from other countries because he can’t trust his own to perform this ‘humane’ task.

Entelechy on December 12, 2006 at 12:00 PM

“Americans must know that even if Ahmadinejad’s body is burnt a thousand times for this purpose, Ahmadinejad will not retreat even a centimetre from these ideals.”

One time would be suffice for my liking. He could burn and burn like toast and see where his ideals will be then. Amadadinjerk………..

bones47 on December 12, 2006 at 1:32 PM

Entelechy,

You need to do some research on the Iranian political system and where power in the Iranian government truly lies. Dictator? Please look up the word. Ahmadenijad has none of the powers of a dictator. He doesn’t control the armed forces, he doesn’t control the internal security apparatus, all of his ministerial appointments must be approved by the legislature (and the Supreme Leader). Furthermore, he doesn’t control the state media. How is he a dictator again?

Those FACTS should not give you the impression that I think Amadenijad is a swell guy - quite the opposite. However, the office he holds has limited power and therefore his ability to do all the crazy things people accuse him of wanting to do (nuke Israel, bring back the 12th Imam, etc.) is quite limited.

Now, if one day we woke up and the Supreme leader had been assassinated and Ahmedinijad took control, then you might be closer to the truth. But for a variety of reasons, such as eventuality is very unlikely.

NPP on December 12, 2006 at 2:08 PM

Wow. Just … wow.
