That is a fact. Indians, Pakistanis, Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, Burmese, Thai, Vietnamese, etc., are the brunt of jokes and disrespectful impersonations often among black and Hispanics, who usually get a free pass to do so.

William

There are plenty of whites who do the same thing as well as Asians who show disrespect to other ethnicities and races. There is no specific ethnicity that owns the higher moral ground. We have bad eggs in all groups - the important thing to realize is that in no group is it the majority of the people.

In my opinion if we don't view the whole racial thing in this perspective we run the risk of justifying or condoning inappropriate comments or treatment toward others because of the actions of a few.

Understandable that if it happens to a loved one it is tougher to be philosophical about it. But the right thing is not always the easy path.

William,

I agree that Rosie deserves ridicule for the hypocrisy, provided that there are examples of her excoriating others for hate or intolerance based on cheesy jokes that play on ethnic stereotypes. In the absense of examples, though, everyone here is engaging in nothing more than an orgyistic (word?) attack on a strawman. Furthermore, many of those here aren’t outraged over the hypocrisy, but at the “racist” nature of her joke.

I don’t like Rosie, but I really don’t like seeing conservatives, who I normally consider the rational ones, engaging in mindless, Kos-like attacks.

 --- DaveS on December 11, 2006 at 11:27 PM

DaveS,

Thanks for your comment.

I do not think it is hypocrisy that is the main idea. For me it is Rosie O'Donnel's arrogance, self absorption, bullyish personality, how she writes herself a blank check based on her "as a gay woman" and similar clubs she assigns herself to in order to grant herself latitude and immunity from criticism and allow herself to have the bully pulpit with no contradiction from anyone.

She was arrogant and rude to Tom Sellek, a guest on her show. She laid heavily into him for his belief in the right to bear arms. She was seeking information to see how to get her body guard licensed to carry guns in New York.

Do as I do, not as I say.

She embraced Danny DiVito while he made a fool of himself on the View. No concern for his bad behavior. Just praise him as a wonderful drunk.

Now she puts her foot in her mouth with her ching chong ching chong shtick, unaware that that kid of material might offend someone. She does not want her own group to be offended, but she does not worry about offending others.

When her behavior is called into question, it is those who are offended who have the problem, because they just don't understand. They just don't "get it." It is their problem, not hers.

Rosie was way out of line when she tossed rotten tomatoes, or was it diarrhea of the mouth, figuratively speaking, at Kelly Ripa as in accusing Kelly of being homophobic, or a homophobe, when Kelly took exception to Clay Aiken mushing his hand over Kelly's mouth, a rude, disrespectful, and far from hygienic gesture.

This is a journey into P/C territory, an exploration, if you will. Let's see and have some fun with P/C regarding someone who has been prosperous and become a hero of the P/C world. By P/C, I mean Political Correctness.

Also, in Michelle Malkin's Vent she is addressing the fact that the Asian American organizations are offended by Rosie O'Donnel's behavior.

As I said above, I have observed numerous people from the various special interest groups, blacks, Hispanics, homosexuals, etc., behave disrespectfully of others, attacking, mocking, stereotyping, and demonizing others. One of the chief recipients of leftist, liberal, black, and Hispanic arrogance, racism, and bigotry, is Asians-Orientals. I use both words hyphenated so that it is clear that I mean those from India, Pakistan, Shri Lanka, Nepal, Burma, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, China, Mongolia, Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Okinawa, the works.

When I see the disrespect, the abuse of Asians-Orientals by people who are of the preferred, special interest groups-minorities, I reflect on how Asians-Orientals outperform their detractors-abusers.

I think that is one of the best forms of revenge. Laugh all the way to a happy, successful life, a strong family and family values, and a big, fat bank account, reflecting hard work and sacrifice that many others who want a handout, but won't make the effort, yet mock hard working, humble, industrious, self sacrificing Asians.

In keeping with the theme of Asian-Oriental peoples,

Namaste.

Guys, seriously, cut it out with the transparently fake outrage. When did you all decide to pretend to be ridiculously politically correct? Your gonna get YOUR panties in a wad now because somebody said “ching chang” in a very bad impersonation of a generic Chinaman discussing Danny Devito on The View?

Congratulations. You’re now officially as annoying as the lefties that you are emulating.

 --- DaveS on December 11, 2006 at 9:22 PM

DaveS,

There is some truth on some level to what you are saying.

I don't expect for one minute that anyone who posted here regarding Rosie O'Donnel's behavior is losing sleep over this, or has run off to the Psychiatrist for some pharmaceuticals to help them make it through the day, or is seeking grief counseling over this.

I think most of us are having a bit of fun poking at the rather weak ground on which Rosie O'Donnel stands and how she, her supporters, and enablers just don't give a rat's behind about how they behave, or who they hurt.

Frankly, I do think Rosie was rather dumb in what she did, but I have seen and heard others do the same thing.

As I reported a few posts above, some black males did this to my wife and our small children as she walked passed them, talking at her with "ming chong ching chong wahoo ming chong ching chong" type BS.

Ha, ha, ha! How funny that these males have not learned to show respect for others, but think that they can just launch into mocking others. Clear racist behavior, not ifs, ands, or butts.

What are you going to do? Beat the crap out of them?

No. Why? Because they are allowed to be racist, and disrespectful toward my wife, based on her Asian ethnicity, but I am not allowed to knock their teeth out of their mouths and dislocate their shoulder or elbow joints because that would be against the law.

Rosie has a history of being moronic, disrespectful of others, having her own, different set of standards that she lives by, but by which others are not measured. She can condemn a person for their interest in owning guns or protecting the right to bear arms, while at the same time she thinks it is okay for her and her "children's" body guard to carry a weapon.

Rosie can pull up the "I am going to say something outrageous, but I am a gay American, a gay woman" card, with her "As a gay woman," or "As a gay American" disclaimer, which acts as a get out of responsibility for being disrespectful while she accuses someone of something statement, as she did when judging Kelly Ripa of being homophobic because Ripa did not want someone she did not know, or anyone for that matter, just forcibly placing his hand over Ripa's mouth.

Now Rosie, who thinks she has the right to offend anyone she wants and get away with it, and, if you don't get the "joke" then you just don't understand, you don't have a sense of humor.

Great!

My wife thought that what Rosie did was not a surprise. She said that Rosie is known for such behavior, and she is thought to be a comedian and often does stupid stuff like that.

In other words, my wife was not too upset about it, although she did say that she thought Rosie should not have done it. She said something to the effect of "What do you expect from these people? That is the way they are. People make fun of Chinese and Asian people in general all the time."

That is a fact. Indians, Pakistanis, Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, Burmese, Thai, Vietnamese, etc., are the brunt of jokes and disrespectful impersonations often among black and Hispanics, who usually get a free pass to do so.

No matter. Asians-Orientals outperform their condescending peers where it counts. Asians-Orientals score higher in SAT scores, in science, in mathematics, technology, etc., and they have higher entrance to graduation rates in college than blacks, Hispanics, and Caucasians. Asians-Orientals also have a higher family income than other ethnic groups.

So, let Rosie, racist leftists, blacks, Hispanics, etc., mock, these groups still come in last where it counts, and Asians-Orientals are laughing all the way to get their University degrees, their medical degrees, the medical license, their CEO position, the money in the bank, their new home, which they tend to qualify for in higher percentages than other groups - because they work hard, keep a good credit rating, get a good education, and good a good job and work hard.

In summation,

Rosie did what Rosie does. She was bullying, arrogant, condescending, and disrespectful and racist, and all the while she is supposed to be performing her "comic" shtick.

It has worn thin among many aside from her cult like followers.

Anyway, since the Rosie incident was there to talk about, I see no harm in us discussing, and commenting on it.

 — DaveS on December 11, 2006 at 9:22 PM

DaveS,

There is some truth on some level to what you are saying.

I don’t expect for one minute that anyone who posted here regarding Rosie O’Donnel’s behavior is losing sleep over this, or has run off to the Psychiatrist for some pharmaceuticals to help them make it through the day, or is seeking grief counseling over this.

I think most of us are having a bit of fun poking at the rather weak ground on which Rosie O’Donnel stands and how she, her supporters, and enablers just don’t give a rat’s behind about how they behave, or who they hurt.

Frankly, I do think Rosie was rather dumb in what she did, but I have seen and heard others do the same thing.

As I reported a few posts above, some black males did this to my wife and our small children as she walked passed them, talking at her with “ming chong ching chong wahoo ming chong ching chong” type BS.

She can condemn a person for their interest in owning guns or protecting the right to bear arms, while at the same time she thinks it is okay for her and her “children’s” body guard to carry a weapon.

Rosie can pull up the “I am going to say something outrageous, but I am a gay American, a gay woman” card, with her “As a gay woman,” or “As a gay American” disclaimer, which acts as a get out of responsibility for being disrespectful while she accuses someone of something statement, as she did when judging Kelly Ripa of being homophobic because Ripa did not want someone she did not know, or anyone for that matter, just forcibly placing his hand over Ripa’s mouth.

Now Rosie, who thinks she has the right to offend anyone she wants and get away with it, and, if you don’t get the “joke” then you just don’t understand, you don’t have a sense of humor.

Great!

My wife thought that what Rosie did was not a surprise. She said that Rosie is known for such behavior, and she is thought to be a comedian and often does stupid stuff like that.

In other words, my wife was not too upset about it, although she did say that she thought Rosie should not have done it. She said something to the effect of “What do you expect from these people? That is the way they are. People make fun of Chinese and Asian people in general all the time.”

So, let Rosie, racist leftists, blacks, Hispanics, etc., mock, these groups still come in last where it counts, and Asians-Orientals are laughing all the way to get their University degrees, their medical degrees, the medical license, their CEO position, the money in the bank, their new home, which they tend to qualify for in higher percentages than other groups – because they work hard, keep a good credit rating, get a good education, and good a good job and work hard.

In summation,

BTW-Reflecting on the Justine Timberlake/Kelly Rippa hand situation….

After hearing Rosie’s racist “Ching-Chong” routine, I just wonder where Rosie’s MOUTH HAS BEEN.

---The False Dervish on December 11, 2006 at 6:54 PM

Wasn't that Clay Aiken guest hosting in Regis' place with Kelly Rippa, rather than Justin Timberlake?

No matter, I don't want any of them, be it Clay Aiken, Justin Timberlake, or Rosie O'Donnel placing their hand, or any other part of their body, over my mouth.

Yyeeeeetttcccchhhh!!!

Very well done Michelle. Your point was very well made. I loved it!

I agree with "Yakko77"

Your vent was well done, although I was wondering if Rosie and her hero worshipping tribes will accuse you of doing what she did - ching chong ching chong, rather than Rosie and her mind numbed robotic worshippers admitting they are wrong and admitting that they should apologize completely, give millions to the Asian-Oriental community, and do community service to the Asian-Oriental community.

They are adept at behaving badly but diverting blame from themselves and onto others.

I won't hold my breath.

Michelle,

This vent IS a clever response to Rosie and her crowd of enablers-worshippers-excuse makers-double standard bearers.

As a gay black transexual man who believes in Reproductive Rights, in the Right to Choose (to have your baby dismembered by a professional abortionists, funded by the taxpayer), who believes in the United Nations as a wonderful organization and holder of the answers to poverty, disease, famine, drought, war, peace, the works, and as a person who is a leftist-liberal-democrat (these criteria give me moral superiority and carte blanche freedom to say and do whatever I wish and you cannot criticize me now or say anything mean about me, otherwise you are a homophobe, a racist, a bigot, a hater, and you want all women to get raped, to get pregnant, and you want to force women to have babies - Like Rosie with her "As a gay woman," or "As a gay American" disclaimers before she says something crude, it also shows that I am better than you, to you cannot touch me. so THERE!), I have an opinion on Rosie O'Donnel's ching chong ching chong episode and her subsequent words and behavior.

I was there when several black males engaged in a similar behavior, as the engaged in a show of disrespect toward my wife, who is Chinse, as she and our three children were entering the local YMCA for a swim (squeezed between swim team practice, which closes the pool to children, and closing time).

They did what Rosie did, spewing their phony Asian-Oriental vocalizations.

No, I did not like it and I did confront then on it. I think I should have just come out and told them that you were disrespectful to my wife and you are a bunch of idiots. I held my tongue and did not say that.

Nevertheless, they did not know anything. I spoke to them in Chinese - Cantonese, Toisan, and Mandarin, and a few other languages, and they did not understand a thing.

Idiots!

Just like the Queen of Mouths and Bullies, Rosie "As a Gay Woman" O'Donnel, self righteous, disrespectful leftist!

One thing - homosexual and lesbian behavior are deviant behaviors and disorders. Behavior such as that was once referred to more frequently for what it is, perverted.

Now, through pressure and a few decades of a PR campaign to demonize those who don't "swing" with homosexuality, it has been raised to the level of praise and is rewarded. It also confers on those who are homosexual, a special dispensation from following the same ethics and respect of others that they demanded for themselves.

If homosexuals and their advocates wish to justify their deviant behavior by pointing to so-called homosexual behavior in animals, which also begs the question of the reality evolutionism, then these same people must also ask, animals kill their young, and even eat them. If that is natural, then humans should do it as well and not have a problem with it.

Also, if homosexuality is natural among animals and we should therefore confer on it moral equivalency to normal sexual behavior, then animals eat their extrement, rape other animals, and perform other outrageous, disgusting behavior. By the same logic that justifies homosexuality based on how animals might or might not act, then we should also behave like animals in other ways as well, eating our extrement and the extrement of others, raping, and even engaging in killing the children of the female we wish to mate with.

Next time you males have an interest in a woman who has children, be sure to rip her kids to shreds first before carrying on your affair with the woman. After all, animals do it!

We are supposed to be human beings with a higher level of behavior than the animals. People like Rosie are showing that you can behave however you wish, including showing disrespect for others, and it is not her problem, but those who are offended by it.

Loosen up!

And Rosie, you were wrong and you should admit that you were wrong, you behaved badly, you were disrespectful, and you should apologize, ask forgiveness, and do community service for the Asian-Oriental population to show your good will.

EXCELLENT, MICHELLE!

THANKS FOR VENTING THIS SITUATION FEATURING ROSIE O'HYPOCRITE.

Notice how the audience roared with laughter (at least that is what is sounded like to me on this vent)?

Also, I notice that, as far as I know, Michelle is the ONLY journalist of Asian-American ancestry who has commented and complained about this.

Could Rosie be a....ASIOPHOBE?

Just wondering.....

Too bad Michelle didn’t phrase her Vent in mock lesbian. It surely would have made O’Donnell’s radar. (I’d do it myself, but the point’s been made, and I’d be too graphic.)

It would be fun to see whose absolute moral authority rates higher, the offended Asian or the offended lesbian.

I think Vegas is giving 9 to 1 in favor of the lesbian.

OH MY GOD!

You've already been subjected to the Gwyneth Paltrow wig and today's Ching-Chong performance -- and that's STILL not enough!? Now you want "mock lesbianism"!? Sorry, but if you people want to go down THAT path, you'll just have to go without me.

Even more damning than Rosie’s hypocrisy is the audience reaction to her remarks. After all, it is comprised in the main of persons who would oppose the term “terrorist,” much less “Muslim terrorist” or the descriptive term “Islamo-nazi.” It would totally eviserate a conservative using the term “Negro” instead of “African-American.” Yet, it finds great hilarity in a liberal icon using the crudest stereotype of a “protected” minority in order to get cheap laughs.

I've noticed the same thing with say, Bill Maher's or Jon Stewart's or Margaret Cho's audiences - they seem almost Pavlovian in their responses, like they're not really listening to what's being said but just waiting for breaks to begin cheering and applauding.

I'd swear that a lefty comedian/celebrity could go before a live audience and simply say, "Hickory dickory dock" or "The sky is blue" and the crowd would roil with laughter, no doubt thinking that they're "in" on some anti-conservative or Bush-bashing joke that they don't even understand but know just has to be funny.

Never mind if what's being said is crude, unfunny, or transparently hate-filled. Just keep admiring the emperor's new clothes and you, too can be "sophisticated."
