hah! that’s the best.

So simple even members of Congress should be able to understand it.

Bob's Kid on December 11, 2006 at 7:17 PM

To bad it isn’t quite that simple. Close, but not quite.

The only real problem is when the terrorists send newer (unknown) terrorists to join the police too.

Not to be a defeatist… just sayin’.

V5 on December 11, 2006 at 7:22 PM

Hey – there’s alot of talking in there. The left should really go for this one.

Editor on December 11, 2006 at 7:43 PM

First we have to have leaders that know the difference between the bad guys and the good guys, and when they consider us the bad guys ,Houston we have a problem.
Brilliant piece BTW.

bbz123 on December 11, 2006 at 7:45 PM

V5:

Implicit in the “plan” is the notion that the sheik knows who his people are that are joining the police force and that his people know each other. Thereby reducing the risk of “unknowns” slipping into a given area as police.

But what does that pdf look like after the 55 year-old MSMers from NotFly-OverCountry re-print it? If they re-print it.

Members of the stick figures union are protesting.

I have a mustache. I’m offended.

I’ll agree to most anything that involves our exiting Iraq by way of Iran and exiting Iran by way of Saudi Arabia. Mark Steyn distilled the issue of Iraq for me the other day when he said he would have objected in 1944, had we spent three years reforming France before moving on to Germany. I think we were stalled by the nelliness of many contemporary Christians, particularly President Bush: They can’t stand to cause suffering or death, so by the time we really get around to putting down Islam, it may be too late. Machiavelli encountered this same weakness in some of the Christians of his day and called it “cruel pity,” because the unwillingness to cause suffering led to greater suffering. Machiavelli and I prefer “cruelty well used.”

By small and simple things are great things brought to pass.

Troy Rasmussen on December 11, 2006 at 8:40 PM

this plan sounds more intelligent to me than the Baker/Hamilton report

mfnorman on December 11, 2006 at 8:50 PM

I think we were stalled by the nelliness of many contemporary Christians, particularly President Bush: They can’t stand to cause suffering or death…

I can’t believe anyone would make that assertion. In particular, regarding Bush. How many times he has talked about sending troops “into harm’s way” and then did exactly that. Unless you’re just talking about carpet-bombing the middle east via the reference of not wanting to “cause suffering or death” then this really doesn’t make sense.

thedecider on December 11, 2006 at 9:02 PM

Hang on. Is he endorsing… a police action? To solve the terrorist problem? *cue dramatic music*

Alright alright, seriously, a few good points were made. Although I do wonder just why we should be so trusting of the Sheiks. Half of them seem to stay in power by directing their people’s frustrations against anyone but themselves. And would this not result in the police force being made up of various (and perhaps not-too-friendly-with-each-other) militias? On a local level this might not be such a problem, but if there are operations that require a more cooperative approach..

Oh, so do I, and I’m a Christian…

That had some wisdom to it and made me laugh… but I laughed a lot less when I heard what happened to the Captain. God rest him.

V5 … no Insurgency in history has succedded without a safe haven and source of supply OUTSIDE the combat zone…

Put 50,000 US Troops on the borders of Jordan, and Iran, and seal the borders….

Insurgency would be over inside of a year.

BUT our stinkin Politicians won’t let us do what is needed…

Romeo13 on December 12, 2006 at 1:10 AM

There is a lot of wisdom in those 18 slides.

EFG on December 12, 2006 at 7:03 AM

The socialists won’t let us control OUR OWN borders, why under Heaven would they let us control the Iraqi borders? Of course it’s the right thing to do, but victory is not an acceptable option for the cut-and-run crowd, so any policy which might actually move us in that direction is verboten.

Freelancer on December 12, 2006 at 7:12 AM

Good point; I Recall Michael Yon snapping a few photos of Iraqi border troops… doing their best Bob Marley impression, if you know what I mean. Hopefully things have improved since then..

Reaps on December 12, 2006 at 7:46 AM

Cuba in the late 1950s.

But yeah, denying sanctuary is basic.

Lehuster on December 12, 2006 at 9:07 AM

In the ironic moment of the day CPT Patriquin was killed in a IED explosion on Dec. 6. Go to Michael Fumento’s blog for the details.

LakeRuins on December 12, 2006 at 9:31 AM

Godspeed Capt Trav. Thank you.

KelliD on December 12, 2006 at 10:16 AM

Lehuster… Castro was in the mountains, and was supported by other groups, who were not as active, in the cities….

He was armed and supplied from there.

My point is that there is PROOF of arms coming from Iran, and money from Saudi Arabia, which is adding fuel to the “sectarian violence”. Stop that supply of cash and arms, disarm the militias, and you will have a much more stable Iraq.

Romeo13 on December 12, 2006 at 11:51 AM

Gee, and I thought we had to kill the bad guys. Silly me.

Halley on December 12, 2006 at 1:59 PM

How do we get this on the White House Bat Line before Bush goes out and announces his “fresh eyes” approach?
