I’m still amazed that conservatives would vote for McCain… He has made his career subverting conservative judges, subverting the war on terror, and generally stabbing his party in the face.
As soon as she swears in, she’ll go back to playing “Bad Cop” like she did as Nat.Sec.Adv. when we all loved her. As S.o.S., she’s been playing “Good Cop” and therefore has lost her conservative fan base. But fear not my fellow Righties, Condi will come back to us and continue the War on Ter … Islamofascism through the use of military power and pre-emptive action.
He has done more to subvert issues that would truly help this country (CFR and Immigration Reform), then the left. This self important gang of 14 member SOB will destroy Reagan’s party.
Guiliani is a limp wristed Republican liberal.
If these are our choices, the Republican party will be doomed and a real conservative party will emerge, ultimately giving Democrats control for decades to come.
If only Fred Thompson was 10 years younger. Hollywood would be in a snither over it though….no Hunt for Red October reruns, no Law & Order reruns, they would have to ask for food stamps.
While I voted we Reps have a pretty weak list here. It is going to be a LONG painful road to Jan 09.
There was a time when I would have found Hagel acceptable, but not anymore. He is supposed to introduce Kofi Annan today at the Truman Library. It is supposed to be a bash Bush and USA speech. Hagel is over.

Really? When was that?/Are you kidding?
The Straw Poll seems increasingly irrelevant to me. McCain still draws a 56% unacceptable rating, while Newt Gingrich leads the poll, which seems to indicate that the majority of voters are idiots who live in an alternate universe.
Newt Gingrich couldn’t get elected to the school board at this point. He’s an idea factory, but not a serious candidate for anything.
And 99% of these voters would be on board for McCain vs Hillarack Oblinton in a heartbeat. In.A.Heartbeat.
Me included, and I despise the guy. Politics and governance is not Don Quixote; it’s the art of compromise and choices. We seem to have one conservative on the ballot (Romney), two more who are unelectable (Tancredo, Gingrich), 6 “conservative” Democrats, and 2 guys no one has ever heard of.
I am carefully studying Mitt Romney. One has to appreciate how a good conservative operates in Massachusetts (balls of brass and the patience of a saint).
I like Rudy for any number of reasons, as well Gingrich. No current US senator (of either party) is remotely qualified for consideration. Anyone endorsing an incumbent US senator for the GOP ’08 ticket needs a thorough review of his/her intellectual core.
Condeleeza Rice and Michael Steele are very significant players, although not to head the ticket. As mentioned, I am reviewing the record and qualifications of Romney — the one candidate I believe can split the Dems and still appeal to the conservative base in the South.
It’s time the GOP got much smarter, tougher, and quicker than the liberal liars and frauds operating the left wing party in America.
And 99% of these voters would be on board for McCain vs Hillarack Oblinton in a heartbeat. In.A.Heartbeat.
That’s not saying anything.
You may as well say, 99% of these voters would be on board for McCain against Bin Ladin.
Personally, even if I knew it meant Hillary or Obama would win, I do not know if I could give McCain my vote. I’m not saying I’d give it to a Dem, but I don’t want to ever give him my vote.
McCain, like so much of the story of his life, needs to be in a museum. I don’t trust him, and I can not recall any position he has taken on an issue that wasn’t always up for review.
Guilaini and Gingrich Okay but Romney has a big negative and it ain’t his religion. He is from MA, the folks who brought us Kennedy, Kerry, and other liberals.
Liberals no doubt want to convince the Republicans to put McCain on the top of the ticket just because they know how much it would turn off the electorate thereby increasing Madame Clintons chances. Anytime the MSM media heaps praise on a politician that is all I need to know to be suspicious and shy away from that person.
In my book being a “Media Darling” is a kiss of death.
I would not call Rudi a RINO. If your main concern is outlawing abortion than Rudi is not your guy, but if that is a secondary to conservative views on fiscal policies, law enforcement, national defense, and welfare reform Rudi might be a good fit.
If only Fred Thompson was 10 years younger. Hollywood would be in a snither over it though…
Well, he’s only what, 66? How old was Reagan when elected? I think what the GOP sorely needs, to agree with you, is a candidate who has nationwide recognition (Fred has), who can command attention much like Reagan (Fred can), and who is comitted to the war on terror.
We need an “Im not taking sh*t from no one” kinda guy…and one look at Thompson’s grimace will prove that…and he’d be a shoe-in to handle the media.
My first choice would be Condi, but she won’t run.
So myslef, I will push for a Fred Thompson/Rudi ticket.
Well for what it’s worth from a Democrat: think the ideal candidate (by ideal meaning the one who can win) depends quite a lot on who the opposing party runs. That said, I think Gingrich is the best R option. He has downside issues–slimy personal life, mean spirited–but think he has the gravitas and enough time has gone by to soften the partisan edge. Also, he has been extremely critical of Bush and the neocons.
I imagine the actual choice will be McCain though.
The liberal media wants McCain. There’s a reason for it.
Romney is a contradiction the liberals cannot abide.
While more research and analysis of Romney is warranted, I find his general appeal suitable to the long term goals of conservatives in America.
It will be interesting to follow his campaign. Regardless, conservatives and legitimate Americans had best get busy — no one is going to do the hard work of purging the scum of liberalism and cowardice from our national landscape except those of us willing to do more than “raise our voices”.
Rudy would only win the primary if he’s uncontested by a serious conservative or the field is so spread out that he’d take the plurality. Well, that and the fact that the man wouldn’t survive 4 years of a presidency.
Romney is a Mormon, and he’d never win his own state without taking a hard left turn on the issues.
Condi is not an executive. She’s a bureaucrat. A durned good one, to be sure, but still a bureaucrat.
McCain is in much the same boat as Rudy, except that Republicans actually like Rudy. To answer those that think that Republicans would vote for McCain against Hilaback Oblinton, you need to take a long hard look at this past election and rethink your presuppositions. The GOTV media machine (Limbaugh, Hannity, etc.) have spent the past 6+ years lambasting McCain and marginalizing him, and a significant portion of the base has already shown that they would rather not vote than vote for what they don’t like.
Hillary! would likely win in a walk against McCain. The media’s been keeping their powder dry on McCain, ever since 2000, happy to hold him up as a foil to Bush. Against Clinton, though, he’d be torn to tiny, bite-sized bits, and that’s before the media would go to town highlighting his (as yet unheard of) famous temper, which would be on full display as he watched his carefully cultivated status as media darling evaporate in the face of the media’s preferred candidate. There’s nothing the Soccer Moms hate more than an ugly temper.
I’m not a particular fan of Hillary, much preferred her husband. Also have thought for a while that she couldn’t be elected. I am starting to think she can, especially if she runs with Obama as VP (which is what I think he is running for).
My preferred candidate is Richardson.
It’s fun to prognosticate on this, but as we all know, there is so much time and so much can happen before 08. We shall see.

Allen could win the pres. He is Conserv. and has the Excu. experaince.
The Dems would put some one with a .38% loss as a front runner, but we don’t even put him on the list.
Allen/Steele (Steele will not get the knod – would be a good counter balance to Obammmmmmma)
Thompson/Tancredo, Tancredo/Thompson. I’m good with either slate. Oh, and I don’t mean Tommie, I mean Fred.
Guiliani would make a wonderful Attorney General, because that’s what he’s good at. He’s a cop’s lawyer. But his social stances are not conservative. Not even close.
Newt is smart enough and strong enough, but he’d get slimed bad enough that the sheeple would never vote for him, even against Hillary.
Romney is socially smack-dab between Rudy and Newt, putting him in the marginally acceptable zone for me. He’s a good administrator, knows how to move people around to get things done.
honora, I would be thrilled to see Gov. Richardson run. Surest guarantee that the White House will not get back into Democrat hands. He’s a non-starter on immigration alone, forget his myriad policy failures.
People keep saying Newt in “unelectable”, but I don’t see how. Of the candidates above, he is the only one who is unquestionably conservative and the only one that I can think off the top of my head hasn’t sacrificed principle for concensus.
After so much of Baker’s “realism” and Bush’s… I’m not sure what you’d even call it… I think Newt would be a great choice.
