Video: SNL recuts “Apocalypto”

TMZ calls it “Hilarious!!” but they broke the Melgate story this summer so I guess they’re obliged. It’s mildly amusing, if that. Although there is one good line.

Compare this to the Ronin Graffiti recut of “Signs” from August. One comes from NBC’s showcase comedy series, the other from a pair of guys messing around with video software. An army of Davids indeed.

I rated it higher up the amusement scale than you, Allah. It breaks the chuckle barrier.

AP,

Totally see what you’re saying as far as quality of the latter. Thanks for linking both.

Chris L. on December 10, 2006 at 5:44 PM

I agree with AP — “Signs” was much funnier.

Hey, Ace is blogging on Princess Diana.Who knew he was a dianaphile! Let’s see you top that, allah.

Yeah, the bagels line was the only clever part. Otherwise, I’ve been hearing this joke ever since Gibson’s drunk incident.

Alex K on December 10, 2006 at 5:56 PM

Hee, it sure is a good line though. Heh, bagels.

Alex K on December 10, 2006 at 5:57 PM

That’s what sitcom writers call “written on the toilet while simultaneosly reading playboy” good.

The Ugly American on December 10, 2006 at 5:59 PM

…in other words, not so much, good.

The Ugly American on December 10, 2006 at 5:59 PM

In fairness, the best part of the Signs video was using SNL alum Sandler’s howling after the alien hand gets whacked.

Alex K on December 10, 2006 at 5:59 PM

Been there, done that.

You should have posted the MAD tv Skit, for comparison, its was funnier than the SNL version. But both were on the same subject, i wish i recorded it..

mainmann on December 10, 2006 at 6:12 PM

SNL hasn’t really been funny in a while
Here is a MAD tv Skit of Bill O’Reilly vs Garofalo

mainmann on December 10, 2006 at 6:34 PM

Not too bad, really.

Attila (Pillage Idiot) on December 10, 2006 at 6:39 PM

Yawn… This SNL crew sucks. They remind me of the crew in the middle eighties. They need a Will Ferrel, Sandler or Murphy.

x95b10 on December 10, 2006 at 7:30 PM

Saw that last night. The only amusing line was the one about bagels.

Shut SNL off after a few skits. Is Aaron Sorkin writing their sketches now? That’s the only explanation I can think of for the aggressive un-funny on that show.

Slublog on December 10, 2006 at 7:58 PM

Thanks for the post Allah. Mad TV’s Apocalypto spoof was funnier. It doesn’t look like anyone’s posted it on YouTube.

The only funny thing about SNL these days is how lib-tarded the cast is.

bigbeas on December 11, 2006 at 1:00 AM

It seems like it was made with very little imagination or effort (especially when compared to the Signs spoof). The bagels line was cute - but overall, not very funny.

Candidate for worst movie title ever. Oh Mel.

honora on December 11, 2006 at 10:07 AM

SNL needs to be taken out on the back forty and shot. It hasn’t been funny since the early ’90s.

Dinsdale Piranha on December 11, 2006 at 12:39 PM

The “sugar-t*ts” line made me chuckle.
