The basis for the defense? Cries of racism. The motion (for the defense)attacked the 9-11 lawsuit as a “broadside indictment of Saudi government, religion and culture.” The Baker-Botts team also filed the motion under the pretense that as a “third-ranking official of a foreign government,” the government of Saudi Arabia is immune to prosecution from the U.S.

The lawsuit claims that Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz funneled money to terrorist organizations, including al Qaeda, but the Baker-Botts team has countered saying that he can’t be sued by Americans because as an official act of the Saudi government, the Sultan funneled the money under official circumstances for the government, and the Saudi government is immune to U.S prosecution.

In the 1930’s or ’40’s or ’50’s or even 1960’s such a lawsuit would have just made any judge laugh and recommend a psychiatric evaluation of the prisoner.

Nowadays, our legal system is more intent on cutting its own society’s throat -for some Rousseian/Utopian vision of perfect justice for the “noble savage” (nee crook)- and actually allow such suits to proceed.

Until we start laughing at the “victim” claims of the attacking jihadis and judiciously crush them, we lose.

What is sick is that this is exactly what the insurgents are doing and are still winning the media war, even in our own country. They are deliberatly mudering the innocent because they know we care about them and it will sway public opinion against the war.

The fact that we can respond with equal brutality is prolonging this war. We have the power, but not the will to end it.

…now, *HERE* is something worth remembering.

1) That you win wars by strategy. That is, the goals and phaselines to those goals.

2) That tactics can and do change, depending on the situation. That is, tactics being the ways you implement strategy.

3) If you treat a strategy the same way you treat a tactic, people become confused, allies begin to question your sanity and your commitment, and your enemies are emboldened.

I’ve read the report and didn’t see an argument for why we’re losing. The only place I see us losing is here in the American media, and fewer and fewer of us in the military care what they think.

Jihadis value death more than life, they’ve said so many times

This may be true for themselves, but they do value the life of their families. If the families of the suicide bombers were wiped out after a bombing, then we would see the bombings almost stop. I’ll even bet that the mothers so eager to send their children off to die would not be so eager if they knew that their turn would be next.

The above is purly hypothetical as it would (and should?) never happen, but it would probably work.

I served in the military that had to deal with post-Vietnam morale and realities. It wasn’t pretty. It didn’t get better for *YEARS*.
