UN news service: Jihadis welcome Baker Commission findings
posted at 12:01 pm on December 7, 2006 by Allahpundit
But until the pullout actually begins, they’ll just have to keep carbombing schoolchildren.
Insurgents and militias in Iraq on Thursday welcomed the recommendations made in a report by the Iraq Study Group that indicated that US policy in Iraq was not working and that its troops should be pulled out earlier than current projections suggest.
“The withdrawal of US troops from Iraq has been one of our foremost demands since 2004. The presence of foreign troops in our country is the reason why we continue to fight, resulting in the killing of thousands of Iraqis,” said Abu Baker, a member of Sunni insurgent group Jeyshi Muhammad (Muhammad’s Army) who declined to give his full name…
“No Muslim country should close their eyes over this occupation that is destroying the country. The occupation is not popular with us Iraqis and that is why you can see an increase in the numbers of Iraqis who have turned into fighters against the US occupation,” said Abu Ahmed, who claimed to be a member of al-Qa’eda in Iraq and declined to give his full name.
He warned that the departure of US troops is not enough and said members of the Iraqi government and parliament who are pro-US should quit their positions “to clean the government of US ideology”.
“Abu Baker.” Perfect.
World Net Daily interviewed a bunch of Palestinian jihadis for reaction — they’re thrilled too — but I’d proceed with caution. The only one who actually mentions the report is “Abu Ayman” of Islamic Jihad, and a quick Google search reveals that he seems to do most of his talking to WND, which isn’t renowned for its credibility in the first place.
Meanwhile, military experts tell the Times the Commission’s plan (which is also Nuri al-Maliki’s plan) to have the Iraqi army take over this year or by early 2008 is not only hopelessly unrealistic but potentially dangerous to the diminished force of U.S. military “advisors” left behind, all of whom will be wearing bullseyes if civil war breaks out:
In essence, the study group is projecting that a rapid infusion of American military trainers will so improve the Iraqi security forces that virtually all of the American combat brigades may be withdrawn by the early part of 2008…
Jack Keane, the retired acting Army chief of staff who served on the group’s panel of military advisers, described that goal as entirely impractical. “Based on where we are now we can’t get there,” General Keane said in an interview, adding that the report’s conclusions say more about “the absence of political will in Washington than the harsh realities in Iraq.”
Barry McCaffrey calls it “a recipe for national humiliation.”

Baker is a Jew-hating b@st@rd. The ISG report can be summarized as follows: F*** the Jews.
Andy in Agoura Hills on December 7, 2006 at 12:11 PM
Hitchens used a line recently in describing recent US Middle East policy, possibly quoting someone else, that went something like “the US is now a meek enemy and a treacherous friend.” Seems to fit certain policy wonks (ISG) quite snugly.

This stuff just writes itself for you doesn’t it?
What are these, “experts”, that talk like they’re the twelfth man on the deal?
Which aptly describes the architects of this disaster, and all their enablers, including the cheerleaders!

Abu Baker…? How about Abu Bajer or Abu Baher?

I for one am shocked! (/sarcasm)

Terrorist: “Leave our country or the kid get’s it!!”
US: “Ok, ok. Just don’t hurt the child…”
Bottom Line – We value innocent life too much to win this war. Jihadis value death more than life, they’ve said so many times. Result? Unless circumstances dramatically change, they win and we lose because ruthlessness and resolve will defeat hesitation and second-guessing in the pursuit of freedom and liberty. Check your history books. Simple.

This guy acts as if the civilians were just caught in the crossfire or something. The majority of civilians and CHILDREN were deliberately targeted and murdered by the insurgents. For Baker to suggest that that the US Troops mere presence causes dsomeone to strap on a bomb and blow himself up in a playground is just irrational.
What causes them to do this is that they know that there are week willed people in power affected by this stuff who will push to withdraw the troops.

Abu Bakr – great new handle for him.

Drifter, I thought you told us months ago that you weren’t going to post on here anymore – did the election results re-energize you?

Not my line, I know, but I couldn’t resist The Obvious. Some things, are All About Timing; some are about little else.
This is only more Kabuki, without ( mercifully ) all the horrible twangy music. If you have not seen a live Kabuki production….well, in watching parts of this “presentation” you pretty much have

…I can imagine The Quotable Hitch saying something like this…it’s true.
After Vietnam, it was much the same. The “paper tiger” had had his a$$ handed to him (it was said)…even though he’d never lost a major (or may minor) battles. He’d been undercut and sold out by the press and politicians.
I served in the military that had to deal with post-Vietnam morale and realities. It wasn’t pretty. It didn’t get better for *YEARS*.
In fact, it took a Ronald Reagan to put things to rights.
I don’t see any Ronald Reagans on the horizon, so I think that the ignominy of *THIS* goat-scr*wing will last for a while.

And this surprises who??????
PinkyBigglesworth on December 7, 2006 at 1:56 PM
This may be true for themselves, but they do value the life of their families. If the families of the suicide bombers were wiped out after a bombing, then we would see the bombings almost stop. I’ll even bet that the mothers so eager to send their children off to die would not be so eager if they knew that their turn would be next.
The above is purly hypothetical as it would (and should?) never happen, but it would probably work.
jman on December 7, 2006 at 2:00 PM
It is absolutely a disastrous plan. We’re winning in Iraq with our current strategy (strategy, not tactics, which change all the time), and we should continue the strategy.
I’ve read the report and didn’t see an argument for why we’re losing. The only place I see us losing is here in the American media, and fewer and fewer of us in the military care what they think.
Jason on December 7, 2006 at 2:17 PM
…now, *HERE* is something worth remembering.
1) That you win wars by strategy. That is, the goals and phaselines to those goals.
2) That tactics can and do change, depending on the situation. That is, tactics being the ways you implement strategy.
3) If you treat a strategy the same way you treat a tactic, people become confused, allies begin to question your sanity and your commitment, and your enemies are emboldened.
Puritan1648 on December 7, 2006 at 2:25 PM
Hey, you lost me at phaselines, so I know what you mean. I didn’t really think “winning” took on any meaning at all when it came to Irak. Oh, and jman, you have a sick mind. See someone m8, really.

Push em back, push em back, harder, harder. Throw the bomb or an IED down field and hope they intercept it.
It’s the Taliban Theological & Incendiary University’s latest cheer as those beauties in burkhas lead their jihadi team against the Kafir Kollege gridiron group.
Kafir Kollege has been struggling on the field and has introduced a new ISG playbook with some untested plays. John Madden claims to have seen some of the plays and has noted “Jeez, this ISG playbook predates Knute Rockne’s time at Notre Dame; they don’t even have a forward pass in there”

…it’s a strategic thaaaaaaaaaang…sort of.
You take a trip in stages. Along the way you set up expected markers, to let you know which stage of the trip you’re in. You don’t take the operation as a whole, but ratehr break it down into manageable steps, the better to delegate authority (always retaining responsibility).
When you cross phaseline bravo, you’re on your way to phaseline charlie. If you should be at phaseline golf or india or x-ray, you know that something’s wrong.

IMAO, someone needs to kick Baker (Abu and James) in the (gum)balls…
urbancenturion on December 7, 2006 at 3:38 PM
I’d also wrap the bombers remains in pigskin.
Seriously –
What is sick is that this is exactly what the insurgents are doing and are still winning the media war, even in our own country. They are deliberatly mudering the innocent because they know we care about them and it will sway public opinion against the war.
The fact that we can respond with equal brutality is prolonging this war. We have the power, but not the will to end it.
jman on December 7, 2006 at 4:13 PM
Oooooo! As long as we’re being gruesome, why don’t we bring pig and dog blood and excrement to all our battles and spray it on all the terrorsits corpses! Then all those jihadists will have a much harder time getting into their “paradise” covered in that revolting cocktail.
urbancenturion on December 7, 2006 at 4:21 PM
The jihadis are like burglars who get injured during a break-in and then sue the homeowner.
In the 1930′s or ’40′s or ’50′s or even 1960′s such a lawsuit would have just made any judge laugh and recommend a psychiatric evaluation of the prisoner.
Nowadays, our legal system is more intent on cutting its own society’s throat -for some Rousseian/Utopian vision of perfect justice for the “noble savage” (nee crook)- and actually allow such suits to proceed.
Until we start laughing at the “victim” claims of the attacking jihadis and judiciously crush them, we lose.

Puritan1648 on December 7, 2006 at 5:17 PM
No surprises here. I say we arm all the Iraqi’s and leave. Let them kill war and terrorize each other. When the dust settles maybe we will have a leader with the balls to straighten out the mess. Even a leader would be nice. I have backed Bush for 6 years and I am done with him. He has abandoned the Republican Party and his Texas values. We need a leader and it is not him. Bush has let the enemy within win.

[shooter] What the f.. is going on?
Nothing much. Baker’s just closing out his short position, nothing more.
Which brings me to another resolution: from now on I’m calling him Abu Baker. (The other guy can write his name ‘Abu Bakr’ but not ol’ Jim…)

Heh.
Gotta tell you, boys, I’m in a mood. Sounds like Pablo is, too. Just enough Pinot tonight, and I’d just as soon spit on the Iraq Surrender Group as read ‘em. Bunch of f-ing DC lawyers and 14 term congressmen that should all be strip-searched, beaten, and jailed. Sell off their assets to put dead veterans’ kids through college.
Cancel their pensions in defense of the national debt.
