my sentiments exactly. I never thought I would say this, but I think the best solution in this situation is censorship of a media that is incapable of responsible reporting.

Let the military report what NEEDS to be reported. At least they’ll give us real numbers, and real pictures.

Of course, though, you are missing the point. The point is that if we pull out of Iraq with our tails between our legs then the perception of violence and bloodshed in Iraq will go down because the media will stop reportng on it. Or they won’t, in which case they will still spin it to make it all Bush’s fault, ignoring (as is typical for liberals) that they supported the pull-out in the first place.

I love it when Iran blames US for the terrorism that THEY’RE commiting. THEY provide the “insugents” with money, shapecharge IEDs, AKs, RPGs and ETCs along with men and training but OUR presence is what’s causing terrorism? Nothing “causes” terrorism but the terrorist and the weapon in his hand. Ya want us to leave? STOP KILLIN’ EACH OTHER! THEN we’ll leave. Iran wants us to move OUT so that THEY can move IN.

You libs out there complain that Iraqis are bein’ killed because we have Troops there and so you want us out. But in reality that’s 180 degrees bassackwards. The number of dead is DOWN because of our presence and if we leave that number will RISE, not fall. Read it again Jackass, the number of dead Iraqis will RISE, not fall if we leave. At the risk of getting off topic, it is refreshing to see someone get it right about how the troops would be redeployed, and not necessarily brought home. The lib kiddies over at Digg never seem to get that right.

I was under the impression that the old-school hatred was mitigated to a large extent by our no-fly zone that did, in the end, keep Saddam pretty well out of there for the last 15 years. Or have I been led down the primrose path on this one?

I remember the Kurdish people fondly…I only wish I’d've been able to do something for them. As it was, I was stuck in our battalion’s rear detachment HQ twiddling. I suppose we did some good as a unit. I’d like to think we did.

I remember going on a convoy delivering vehicles to the battalion’s forward base, and returning all of us in one pickup truck back the 40 or so miles. We were shadowed the whole way by a Land Rover full of 5 or 6 or so 40-ish year old Kurdish men, all decked out in Kurdish tribal gear, weapons and all. They went before us, shadowed after us, even stopped us to make us the gift of what must’ve been the only English-language newspaper in Kurdistan. They made sure that we had *NO* problems along our way.

For my money, I’d haul my own wrinkly, saggy old butt out to help the Kurds. I wouldn’t cross the room to help the Arab Sunnis or the Shiites.

Yes…make the partition of Kurdish Iraq more permanent and “redeploy” up there. Our boys’d be *MUCH* better treated!
