Wow! He's clearly uncomfortable that his bias is being pointed out in such a public forum. No typewriter to hide behind while launching his anti-Bush rhetoric this time. His discomfort at being exposed really climaxes in the very lame and over-used "fair and balanced" jibe. What a putz!

Let's see. High paid liberal celebrities, but conservatives give more to charity by far. Highest, and most burdonsome taxes mainly confined to Blue States (and this country was founded because of a tax on TEA). For the working man, while the working man is taxed out of existance to support those who don't bother to work.

And dumba**es who keep voting for them.

Who's screwing who?

The screencap says it all. As his eyes are rolling up and to (his) right, he's saying that he hadn't heard one lie(in the things that Cavuto said were lies).
If we apply Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) Eye Access Mapping, it means he's accessing the visual construct portion of his brain. A cop trained in this would say he's lying. Sorry, MirCat, the directions are based on the observers left and right not the person being observed. http://nlp-practitioners.com/ interactive/eye-access.htm. Please note that eye access mapping is currently a controversial theory in NLP

I live in flyover country. If I had anywhere near $14,000 for tax on my 3500 s.f. home I would move. That is 6 times what I pay.
I guess it's all what you get used to.

This statement isn't directed at anyone, but if we don't all try to buy American products, we can all kiss our American jobs goodbye. If you don't buy from where your neighbor works, how can you expect your neighbor to help keep you in a job.

[...] Cavuto also elicited this stunningly out-of-touch statement from Krugman about the situation for the average person and the middle class that is obviously not true (excerpt is at the end of this Hot Air clip; go here for Fox News full vid): Cavuto: …. You’re saying that it’s somehow dramatically worse now than it was 10 years, 20 years ago? Krugman: It is dramatically worse now than it was 10 or 20 years ago. [...]

Krugman, what a pathetic man. Without even caring, he admits that his dislike for Bush colors his analysis. He admits everything is great with the economy but then says it's in the tank because "people" don't "feel" good about their economic situation. What a brilliant man, brilliant. Let's send out a war correspondent to find out how the war is going but only from the vantage point of the enemy. Forget events on the ground and reality, let's see how the enemy "feels" about being defeated. Let's only accept stories from stringers affiliated with the enemy....wait a minute...my fault, that is already happening....the AP...

Typical liberal "un-reasoning" basing their psuedo-facts on feelings rather than actual thought or data...

<blockquote>Krugman either is willfully ignorant or just plain ignorant. Or blinded by bias.</blockquote>

Why does this have to be an either/or choice? I'd say he's all three, in a major way.

<blockquote>I told the agent that I had better than an alarm system, I had a pit bull! I am absolutely sure that our dog would have given her life for us… Better than any security system.

Babs on December 6, 2006 at 1:41 AM</blockquote>

If I told my insurance company about my pit bulls they would cancel my policy due to "vicious breeds." Although I've been bitten by dogs exactly twice- once by a Cocker Spaniel and once by a West Highland Terrier. I somehow doubt those breeds are on the "viscious" list.

Until our litigious society begins punishing those who bring frivolous lawsuits (like the robber who tried to sue the homeowner because he fell through a skylight during an attempted robbery) we will see more increases in premiums with decreases in coverage... God forbid Edwards gets the presidency.

<blockquote>I hate references to “the gap” because even if absolutely everyone is doing a full 100 times better than they were, the gap would actually be a hundred times wider than it was. “The gap” is no measure of how well people are doing.

Exactly!

You ever notice the any death toll is always reported as continuing to rise? Duh, same kinda thing.

<blockquote>Another almost incoherent post from me. Sorry people. It’s getting late, and I’m getting old, too old for this s***.

urbancenturion on December 6, 2006 at 1:04 AM</blockquote>

Actually, your post made a lot of sense.

right2bright, I might know you. At least I know someone with the exact background/story. Good for you on your decisions and all the best.

Babs, I left the last message and then went to sleep. Much has been written since. It is obvious that we've been talking/writing by each other and not with each other.

To be very clear - I have much understanding about the manufacturing transition the world finds itself in. I don't even like it. I also agree with those who wrote that the outsourcing will end up not being such a good move, for many businesses. The customers are fed up, for good reasons.

My main point was and is that all which is happening is not the fault of any president or person. Whoever wins in 2008, will have this continued on their watch. I want to see what Mr. smartypants Krugman has to say then. If it's a democrat he'll laud him/her, if not he'll continue on his rant.

To the specifics, and I really don't like to there because it can get very emotional:

- I am not a callous person who doesn't understand or help others - in the contrary. It just appeared that you were listing all the ills, while implicitly feeling that it was someone's fault.
- I grew up in a one-bedroom house, of non-burned brick (which means made of water and dirt), with no running water, no heating system and an outhouse at the end of the yard. In the winter us kids were constantly afraid that the wolves would eat our butt if we had to go at night.
- My cars are usually very old but in functioning shape. I am not one of those who have to have anything of the latest.
- I had to switch jobs/professions a few years ago due to globalization and corporate acquisitions/dissolutions. It turned out to be a blessing. Yes, it was hard and not at all definite at the time.
- Many, many, many families, ours too, are separated for far more than yours and we just make arrangements and live with it.
- Gasoline in Europe is 3 times higher.
- Taxes in Europe are at least 1 1/2 times higher
- No place is better than here, at least not materially, from a standard-of-living standpoint, regulations, taxes, etc. etc. Yes, some claim that we are crazy to work so hard and that they have it better for not choosing to...to each's own, so long as we can choose.
- There are many options and place to go for, including Tennessee and North Carolina, as mentioned.

Above all, I think you are a nice family and that you will find your ways, so long as you stick together and weigh the options and not staying put, while contemplating too much on the current situation.

And again, please thank your son for his services and we thank you and husband for having raised him to be who he is.

I hope you will soon look back at this exchange and garner something positvie from it, namely that it was worth having this discussion to get you to think outside of the community's situation of this time.

With the best wishes for positive change for you and family, regards,

I agree that I have a hard time understanding why Neil considers him brilliant.

I thought that a brilliant person was at least occassionally right.

Princeton's bias exposes itself again. (Big Surprise). This quote from Andrew Lang (1844-1912) seems so appropriate for Krugman:

<em>"He uses statistics as a drunken man uses lamp posts ... for support rather than illumination"</em>

I love it when I, with my 43K annual salary, am described as SUPER-RICH.

Oh, and as far as globalization goes, I'll let you in on a little secret. Overseas outsourcing is a fad. In 10 years, outsourcing will be looked at like the Internet Bubble. Bottom line, companies don't save money, they get a crappy product, and support sucks. Do you want an example? Gateway's biggest selling point these days is that 100% of their customer support is stateside.

Good post, I left California after many decades. Moved to North Carolina (took my money and ran), lower taxes, lower cost of living, better enviornment, the list goes on. Had to start my own business and re-invent myself, but it has been worth it. Sometimes, Babs, things have to get kinda bad to motivate a person to make a change. Sounds like you and your husband have a lot to offer a community and business. And I am sure you are not living beyond your means. Some of the manufacturing areas have been dissimated, that is why I moved out of California (I was a VP of manufacturing), I saw the writing on the wall. Sometimes we are so intent in making a living, we don't look up and see where or how we are living. You have alternatives. Best of luck, you sound like a great family. And thanks to your son for serving in our military, our prayers are with him.

Krugman never mentions the incredible upward mobility of the low to average, the average to high, and the high to wealthy. One of the reason for the disparity is the speed in which one can move from one economic class to the other. Never in the history of the world can so many people move up the economic ladder. The Asians are a great example, immigrating, assimilating, educating and creating wealth.
Yes, there are failures and setbacks, but many of those pick themselves up and move on. Adding to the disparity is the rise of the internet. Imagine, from a garage to a billion dollar company in less than 18 months (youtube).
America..ain't it grand!!

Babs said:<blockquote>our property taxes have gone from $8,000/year to $14,000/year and our heating bill is in excess of $3,500/year. Our electricity has gone from $100/month when we moved in to $250/month today. Gasoline has more than doubled. When we moved in here gas was $0.99/gallon. It is now $2.47/gallon at the local station.</blockquote>

In all seriousness, consider relocating to Nashville, Tennessee. Nice amenities, lots of growth, quite a bit of manufacturing. 2000 s.f. home in a nice neighborhood is about $300K, taxes about $4k. No state income tax. High sales tax though.

You are right about too much credit, it was more of a poke in the eye to the mis-informed. Our economy is driven by individuals who fight competition and the government regulations everyday. Government does not create jobs or profits...it taxes and regulates.
Thank you for pointing that out.

The economist guy screws up and admits he's a Democrat propagandist when he plays the "not fair and balanced" card. That is the card Democrat politicians who go on FOX news always play when they've been busted.
