Murtha: America the ‘enemy’ in Iraq

Leading anti-war Democrat John Murtha said America is the enemy who incited the terrorists to come to Iraq. Murtha repeated the Democratic talking point that terrorists will leave once US forces redeploy.
Bryan adds: I’m no longer sure it’s even worth going into just how wrong Murtha is on the history given the fact that he ought to know better on his own, but the fact is that Saddam Hussein had a very long history of dealing with terrorists including al Qaeda long before the 2003 invasion. In no particular order, Abu Nidal and Aba Abbas (mastermind of the Achille Lauro hijacking in which wheelchair bound Leon Klinghoffer was murdered and thrown overboard) both turned up in Baghdad shortly before and shortly after the invasion–they were two of the most notorious terrorists on earth. Nidal’s organization was set up at the behest of Saddam. Captured documents reveal that Hussein’s agents met with al Qaeda operatives on numerous occassions throughout the 1990s and right up to 2003. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, now deceased leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq (or Mesopotamia), was in Iraq prior to the invasion setting up shop. Hussein paid $25k to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers. The Clinton administration suspected that Iraq was working with al Qaeda to produce chemical weapons, and in 1998 bombed a Sudanese pharma factory based on information connected to that suspicion. Recite these facts to a liberal, though, and you might as well be reading sanskrit to them for all the impact you’ll have. It just bounces off their skulls.
Liberals who always opposed the Iraq war, or who have decided to oppose it after either supporting it or even voting to put the troops into the field, have constructed this myth surrounding both Iraq and Hussein that defies all facts and recitations of the facts. He had no WMDs. Bush lied us into war (but for some reason didn’t see far enough ahead to plant a few WMDs to keep the game going). Saddam was too secular to work with those crazy Islamist terrorists. Etc, ad infinitum or until we lose the war, whichever comes first.
One more time, lefties: Google “Clinton Iraq 1998.” You won’t need the quotation marks. The results of that single search destroy the entire “Bush LIED” nonsense that even “credible” lefties like Josh Marshall spout regularly. But resorting to the facts does no good with them, as it does no good with Jack Okinawa.
Odd, that the word “Okinawa” never comes up in any of Matt Lauer’s puffball questions, isn’t it? Eh, not really. The MSM’s collective memory is quite selective. As is Murtha’s and anyone who thinks he retains a shred of credibility.
Update (Bryan): Hey Jack, here’s a little more context for you, from one of your party’s freshmen in Congress.

You guys have it wrong, Murtha is the dumbest cheerleader ever. Just like in the other post, he’s cheering the wrong team.

They have openings for Santas. He should just put on a costume and shut up. How can he sleep at night? And how can the MSM? Let’s have a contest on how to rename the MSM.

Murtha is a moronic dolt and should not be allowed to leave his living room. I’m affraid that the brilliant electorate has put us all at great risk.

The looney lefties like Murtha can spout whatever horse manure they want to, because when they are proven dead wrong in the future (as they have been in the past), the MSM will completely ignore it by busily covering their latest outlandish proclamations. The general public won’t even notice. America is reaping the fruit of decades of voluntary ignorance.

This is the only point made by Murtha that contains some truth ala the “flypaper” strategy.
He’s just wrong on everything else and his reference to America as the “enemy” doesn’t sit well with me either.
Hey Murtha, terrorists are the enemy and you imply that if we would just be nice to them they wouldn’t be “incited” to fight us? Are you really THAT stupid?

NOW you know why I am so deeply, deeply disappointed that this gloated pus-bag is NOT going to be the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives of the United States of America. Think of all the fun we would have had; think of how the Demos would have looked.
Murtha as Majority Leader would have been beyond priceless: he would have been walking talking GUARANTEE of taking back the House in two years

There is no way that this dolt was ever a Marine. Any real Marine would have cleaned his clock a long time ago (the first time he ever opened his mouth). I have a lot of respect for the Marines (which is hard to admit, since I retired from the Air Force — Do you know why the Air Force uses guard dogs to guard their facilities and why the Navy uses Marines? The Air Force had first choice..:).
Someone needs to get this guy a clue, in a hurry!

I really don’t think the Islamofacists will have to bother chopping our heads off. The Dhimmicrap bleedership is dead set on giving them all our heads on a silver platter.
Parley on December 4, 2006 at 11:26 PM
I’m of the opinion now that there should be an investigation into the whole thing. The American people have been lied to – by the Democrats.
Murtha is such a moron, it’s not even funny. President Bush has said over and over that one of the main reasons we are in Iraq (other than WMDs, removing Saddam, failure to comply with UN resolutions, etc.) is so that we fight the islamofascists there instead of here at home – nobody has tried to hide that fact. In other words, Jack-O sr., we are okay with luring the terrorists into Iraq to fight us.
Rick on December 4, 2006 at 11:36 PM
Now can we put Grandpa Simpson in a home? He’s obviously a danger to himself. That picture of him looks like he might have soiled his pants. Seriously, though, this man remains a good reason for the voting public to vote Republican in the next election. Although I’m sure that won’t silence Murtha. I think the media looks for reasons to give him airtime for spewing his anti-Bush, anti-war drivel.
thedecider on December 4, 2006 at 11:40 PM
No terrorist connection?
Really? No connections?
And if any of you lefties out there need WMD quotes spanning 13 years leading up to the war from Dems, let me know. Oh, and Clinton’s casus belli for attacking Iraq is priceless too.
RightWinged on December 4, 2006 at 11:43 PM
Calling your government the enemy in a time of war has to be a crime of some sort. So how come these guys never get prosecuted.

For once, Murtha is right. If we leave Iraq, the terorrists will too.
Of course, what he doesn’t seem to know is that they will simply follow us back to the U.S.
With Democrats in control be prepared to see it happening in our streets soon.

At the Institute for Peace (something like that) the head of Iraq’s SCIRI Party (Islamic Revolutionary Council) gave a speech and took questions today. It was on C-Span 2 I think.
Anyway, the last question was from a female journalist from the “Iraqi Independent” newspaper. She asked him directly “Are the terrorists in Iraq because of the American invasion?”
His answer: “No. They were there before, though in smaller numbers. After the removal of Saddam there was a gap and they came to Iraq in larger numbers, but they were there before and they had already built up an infrastructure.”
Even the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Party of Iraq knows we didn’t start the fire. Murtha is out of his depth. We just need someone from the Republican leadership to stand up to this crap and tell the truth in as many venues as possible and as often as possible to beat the hell out of Murtha and the idiot brigades. We have the upper hand here. We’re right and the facts back us up. Repeating the hard facts over and over is all that’s necessary to beat these losers on the networks.
The question is: Who’s the man to lead that fight? McCain? Where are you John McCain? No? Then, who else? Who wants to be the natural heir to Bush’s leadership mantle?
The Apologist on December 5, 2006 at 1:59 AM
Murtha does look like he just soiled his pants. Excellent observations by all. What a pig he is.

It is exactly this kind of talk that made the DEMS turn on Pelosi when she tried to push him for a spot. Seems the DEMS have actually gotten Rangel to shut up for a bit and here’s Johnny (Murtha) saying just the kind of crap that makes the blue dog democrats wonder just what they unleased on us all. Good job John, another 2 years of hearing this kind of anti American crap and the GOP might just have a chance.

Gwillie on December 5, 2006 at 2:51 AM
Well, that is true to some extent.
Once they kill off a few million of the decent Iraqis that they think may have cooperated with us, many of the terrorists WILL leave Iraq.
And go to the USA, to Britain, to Austrailia, to Poland, to Italy and other places, to continue their Jihad.
Won’t

Right, and it’s a hell of a lot easier to shoot them in the desert then in the mountains which is why al-Qaeda as a combat force is now insignificant.
Not the ones who live there and are currently the bulk of the problem.

I never watched the video and only read the last two posts. But let me guess; Murtha says we are the blame, Murtha says terrorists are stronger now because of us, Murtha says that their was no real threat, Murtha says Iraq was not involved in terrorists activities and never heard of Osama, Saddam was bad but we are worse, we should leave now, we destroyed a great country, we are disrupting the middle-east, we are wrong, wrong, wrong. The war was mishandled. Their is no threat to us.
How did I do without watching the video or reading any of the commentary on Murtha? They are like a broken record.

Pablo’s last post was not their when I wrote my post; Griz was the last post I read.

He correct! However they will not leave, the terrorists will redeploy..to Canada, to the US, to Britain, to Lebanon, to Australia, to France…ok I went to far with France…they can just send the French a fatwa and they’ll surrender.

…I’ve lived around and served in the Army with guys like Murtha all my life. They’re guys who’ll try to out-stubborn the opposition, no matter how much it costs them, their families, their friends, or themselves. They’ve gotta be right!
…that’s why they should listen to me, he says….
OFFICIAL: Jack Murtha *IS* the enemy. Not America, its armed forces, Israel, the new Iraqi government, capitalism, Christianity, the “Crusaders”, or the heartbreak of psoriasis. Jack Murtha is the enemy.
Somebody earlier in the thread asked the correct question:
…and then answered it:
…again…if only to tickle honie’s funny bone:
TREASON! TREASON! TREASON! TREASON! TREASON! TREASON!
TREASON! TREASON! TREASON! TREASON! TREASON! TREASON!
…recall measures, followed by an indictment, need to proceed. Not only has this got a *HISTORY* of malfeasance and availability to those wanting to buy influence, he seems to have a habit of disloyalty.

I picture you as one of those old guys in the balcony from the Muppet Show. (DO NOT challenge this POV; I am enormously fond of those old curmungeons, so let me have my fantasy.)
Interesting that Murtha was re-elected so easily. Guess his constituents, which includes my mother, are all traitors as well. Gee that traitors’ ball is gonna be crowded as hell this year. What to wear, what to wear….
honora on December 5, 2006 at 11:04 AM
…sorry…have to “challenge” it…
I’m more like a “Care-Bear”. Remember them? My oldest boy (now 22, an Army medic) used to play tapes of those miserable little b*stards when he was little. I hated and still hate ‘em.
Still, the comparison is apt, as is the resemblance.
Except, no pastels. No sappy smiles or midriff rainbows. I’m tiger-stripe camo’d…with a skull and crossbones on my tummy.
“Reach out with your feelings…and strike fear in their hearts!”
…fantasy? This isn’t becoming one of *THOSE* sorts of blog pages, is it?
…no, they’re simply lost in self-interest. It’s valuable for a congressional district to have a grasping, amoral *SENIOR* member of Congress as your representative. It’s harder to think of the common good and not of all the pork this sort of bottom-feeder (apologies to halibut, lobsters and catfish everywhere) can bring home.
But, they *DO* share a in a measure of his infamy if they return him to Washington after all of this…which, of course, they have. “I don’t like his views on the war but he brings home the bacon” just doesn’t cut it.
Still, freedom is living with the folly of others. If folks aren’t lighting up the phonelines to *THEIR* congressmen and -women to impeach this oxygen-thief, *THEY* share along with Murtha’s constituents the blame of his continuence in power.
So far, I haven’t contacted my own congressman (on whom I don’t rely ONE BIT) and senators. Better get off the pot, I suppose.
We bear responsiblity for our governance. Murtha is part of the problem.
