The bottom line is that President Bush has abandoned the concept of executive prerogative. So since Presidential appointments, from here on out, will be decided solely at the discretion of the Majority Party, if he will not fight for Bolton, who will he fight for?

A small minority of the majority party can scuttle just about anything. In this case, the problem is Republican, or should I say RINO, in the person of Lincoln “Don’t let the door hit you in the ass” Chaffee. If you want to lay blame for the loss of Bolton, that’s the guy who owns it. It’s a fight Bush simply can’t win without unanimity or the R side of the committee table.

Bolton would win a vote on the floor, but Bush can’t make that happen with no way to leverage Chaffee.

Heh, Janos, I know how great these sayings are. Also, there is one, a good one, for every single occasion. It wouldn’t be the first time I was foolish either :)

I am not wrong. I have many friends and relatives in Ireland and have had the opportunity to work closely with government officials and business leaders in both parts of Ireland all thru the 90s, including the Taoiseach on occasion.

And as for “as usually the case”–really? What a smarmy, toady thing to say. Hope this won’t usually be the case.

Whoever said it may have been correct! We, well most of us any way, were born in an era where the Office of the President was the preeminent branch of government and that was not always the case.

Therefore, in my opinion, because President Bush will not fight for those he appoints, he has allowed that preeminent status, and the power that goes along with it, to revert to the Congress. Perhaps that it as it should be. I just don’t know and perhaps some of you who are more learned would care to comment.

PS. I would still like to see a question or comment posted on HOTAIR from time to time for “members” to comment on, rather than just responding to “breaking news”! Anyone agree or am I alone out here on the ocean??

Man, I’m with you on this one and it seems to be an idea that is on more than a few minds. I’ve heard guys at work who are far from revolutionary types talking about how much meanness there seems to be out in society now and that the ranks of the self-important seem to be taking over. You can see it in the way people drive, how they shop, and how they all seem to think that they are entitled to be “first” in everything regardless of preparation and application of effort. One other thing that I notice is that alot of people seem to link the amount of money that they make to their self-perception of their worth to society……that is scary.

Too bad Lurch doesn’t realize it’s a turn in the wrong direction. This decision sickens me. We finally get someone in the U.N. who isn’t afraid to speak for the interests of the U.S. (and the better interests of the world) and yet, political bickering forces him out.
