The bottom line is that President Bush has abandoned the concept of executive prerogative. So since Presidential appointments, from here on out, will be decided solely at the discretion of the Majority Party, if he will not fight for Bolton, who will he fight for?

A small minority of the majority party can scuttle just about anything. In this case, the problem is Republican, or should I say RINO, in the person of Lincoln "Don't let the door hit you in the ass" Chaffee. If you want to lay blame for the loss of Bolton, that's the guy who owns it. It's a fight Bush simply can't win without unanimity or the R side of the committee table.

Bolton would win a vote on the floor, but Bush can't make that happen with no way to leverage Chaffee.

honora, your arrogance manages to surpass your ignorance, and you do have an active fantasy life. ( what did you "work closely with the Taoisach" on--His Mistress Relocation Programme? )

Like a tylical lefty wold-be bully, albeit a butch-femme one, you call people names when they dare disgree with you--AND THREATEN THEM, although with prissy crap like, "let's hope that won't happen again"

Right--so what happens if IF DOES HAPPEN AGAIN? What does a Clintonite harpy do when people dare repeat what displeases her?

I've read the routinely dishonest, ignorant crap you routinely write on this blog, and it's tiresome and generally worthless. So whenever I run across it again, I'm going to remind you that you're wrong, time after time.

Heh, Janos, I know how great these sayings are. Also, there is one, a good one, for every single occasion. It wouldn't be the first time I was foolish either :)

Here is the homepage, including that it has a live cam to see the center of the town. I love many things Hungarian, especially the twisted minds. Hungarians' brain functions differently due to their language. They invented more than many others. Best invetion, though, the coffe houses. Sorry for the diversion from the topic.

To John Kerry - he was against Mr. Bolton before he was against him. Pay no attention to this windbag. No one, but no one cares what he has to say, not even Mrs. Heinz. Well, maybe he has a good dog.

This is what you get when you hand the Senate over to the dark side. With absolutely no muscle in the Republican party we Conservatives are again undermined and the dems, utilizing their game of dirty politics, continue to further ignore and disregard our interests in this dangerous and fragile world.

A terrible loss to freedom and the safety of Americans.

It’s a pity, it’s a crying shame.

Is the fact that the Republicans are still in control until January when the new Congress convenes? Bush knows he won't get Bolton confirmed with his own party in power. The guy simply has no juice.

honora, as is usually the case, you are wrong about Mitchell deserving credit for the current structure for talks on the Six Counties ( only the British use the term ‘Northern Ireland’ ), and wrong about him being admired by either the English or Irish people. He was a device of some use for a limited time, after which he and Clinton ( typicaly ) took credit for what they had virtually nothing to do with

Janos Hunyadi on December 4, 2006 at 7:23 PM

I am not wrong. I have many friends and relatives in Ireland and have had the opportunity to work closely with government officials and business leaders in both parts of Ireland all thru the 90s, including the Taoiseach on occasion.

And as for "as usually the case"--really? What a smarmy, toady thing to say. Hope this won't usually be the case.

The bottom line is that President Bush has abandoned the concept of executive prerogative. So since Presidential appointments, from here on out, will be decided solely at the discretion of the Majority Party, if he will not fight for Bolton, who will he fight for? Surely not his next Supreme Court nominee!

Whoever said it may have been correct! We, well most of us any way, were born in an era where the Office of the President was the preeminent branch of government and that was not always the case.

Therefore, in my opinion, because President Bush will not fight for those he appoints, he has allowed that preeminent status, and the power that goes along with it, to revert to the Congress. Perhaps that it as it should be. I just don't know and perhaps some of you who are more learned would care to comment.

PS. I would still like to see a question or comment posted on HOTAIR from time to time for “members” to comment on, rather than just responding to “breaking news”! Anyone agree or am I alone out here on the ocean??

We have made them that way, nobody knows humility anymore, and we may suffer for it.

"WE" is too all inclusive. "We" didn't make people that way, dems and liberals did with their constant battle to loosen societal restrictions, minimalizing religion and faith (not to mention fostering outright hostility to Christians), and glamorizing socialism as if it's natural. People are being taught that no ethics are good, and get what you can without doing anything to get it. Nanny state people.

It’s a pity, it’s a downright crime.

Bolton was a real advocate for the United States in the UN. He is the best since Jeanne Kirkpatrick from way back when. This is a grave loss for our country.

It’s a pity, it’s a downright crime.

Bolton was a real advocate for the United States in the UN. He is the best since Jeanne Kirkpatrick from way back when. This is a grave loss for our country.

I’m beginning we really are gonna have to fight another civil war at some point.

Man, I'm with you on this one and it seems to be an idea that is on more than a few minds. I've heard guys at work who are far from revolutionary types talking about how much meanness there seems to be out in society now and that the ranks of the self-important seem to be taking over. You can see it in the way people drive, how they shop, and how they all seem to think that they are entitled to be "first" in everything regardless of preparation and application of effort. One other thing that I notice is that alot of people seem to link the amount of money that they make to their self-perception of their worth to society......that is scary.

We have made them that way, nobody knows humility anymore, and we may suffer for it.

He couldn’t get along with the Aunt Jemima girl.
Man, I knew and I told all of you, she is a sellout…She sided with the hezbolah in defeating Israel.
She is a dangerous woman.

OMG!!! What a disgusting thing to say! She certainly did not side with "hezbolah [sp]" to defeat Israel (where is your proof?), and your remarks concerning Dr. Rice, personally, are just offensive.

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass, said Bolton’s departure could be a turning point for the administration

He should know - after all, he is an expert on "waffling" when it comes to dealing with issues. He lives for turning points.

Too bad Lurch doesn't realize it's a turn in the wrong direction. This decision sickens me. We finally get someone in the U.N. who isn't afraid to speak for the interests of the U.S. (and the better interests of the world) and yet, political bickering forces him out. Instances like these (but only these) make you admire dictatorships. You wish Bush could just appoint the man and we're done. Alas, the U.N. becomes irrelevant again. Seems they're doomed to that fate.
