Actually the Bears could probably beat Indy just by running it at them enough. Indy all-but has no defense at all... and their run defence stinks so bad I am actually benching peyton in FF. Not because he's doing bad so much as he can't get on the field, because everybody just runs on them and runs down the clock all game long. No time on the field translates to no fantasy points for me, so peyton gets to ride the pine this week (which of course means he'll have a blockbuster game... heh...)

Baltimore's not as great as their record, they aren't bad they just aren't as great as people think they are. SD and NE on the other hand, I probably agree with you. Although each of them have weak points too... but grossman would still find a way to shoot himself in the foot (or higher and more to the center) against them.

But the Bears have won several games on nothing but defense, and sometimes only half a game (or less) of defense (like vs. Arizona). Unless their D shows up at 200+% for the entire game the Bears do not have ANY hope of getting to the NFC championships, much less the superbowl, especially not against Dallas/NO and probably not even against Seattle... unless Rex stops playing keep away with his opponents DBs. He throws better to the DBs than to his own guys, and unless he stops that it will be another one-and-out playoff season for the bears.

Robert, I started to write a note about what teams should worry the Bears in the NFC, but there aren't any. Only the Bears can beat the Bears...
...and San Diego, Indy, New England, and Baltimore.

Heh, isn't football such an interesting game. Just when you think you got it figured out something comes along to show you that you don't. For example... Carolina keeps throwing games in the 4th even though they were the preseason favorite for the superbowl. The stoolers of last year were "out of it" no questions asked and come back to "win" (thanks to horrible officiating) the super bowl. (Which would have been enough alone to mean that this entire year ANY team that beats them is my "extra" team for that week.)

The Bengals started strong, then went completely to crap, everybody was sure they were completely out of it and their defense absolutely sucked... then three great showings in a row with 7.93 quarters of shutout football in two weeks -- and not against total slouches either, against a team that beat KC (shocker admittedly but they still won) the next week and another team that had a 27-0 shutout of its own the previous week.

The Giants had a two game lead in their division four games ago and now they are back two games. The Titans were pretty much the worst team in football and Young was an inexperienced nobody and now they just upset both NYG and Indy, mostly thanks to a surprisingly rapid improvement from Vince (and several key screwups from his opponents). Etc etc etc...

Nobody can predict even the next week of the NFL. Much less the next month. Which is, of course, why you play the game.

But I am looking forward to next week. It will either be a shootout or a punt-fest, but either way it should be fun to watch. And having lived in/near both cities my allegiance is slightly torn but I have to cheer for the Saints. NO needs the boost in ego and hope FAR more than dallas does.

As for the playoffs, I agree with the guys on Sportcenter, if Rex can't settle down and Indy can't stop the run neither of them will be playing in Miami this year. And Jaibones is probably right that Chicago would lose in the first round (and probably so would Indy... again)... although it would actually be the second round because nothing short of a complete colapse on their part is going to knock the out of the #1 seed in the NFC. Indy might be a first round TKO if they aren't careful that #2 seed is looking like an uphill climb for them these days, much less #1. And if Rex doesn't settle down either Dallas or New Orleans (whoever faced them) would *easily* wipe the floor with them, and Seattle would have a good chance of it as well.

Rick,

I don't think they've played any. Gave the Patriots a pretty good go in Foxboro, but Grossman threw it away. The drumbeat in Chicago is for Griese, at least for next Monday night. We've got four games with little on the line to find out if we have another QB, and to let Rex get his head out of his ass.

My only point was that this team in incredibly resourceful outside of the head coach and starting QB. And Rex can play. They led San Francisco 41 - 0 at halftime. They beat Seattle 37 - 6, Buffalo 40 - 7. Grossman looked like the best QB in the league. Now, he looks like the third best on the Bears. If he settles down, they'll be hard to beat.

If he doesn't, they lose in the first round...

They just got out-gained by Minnesota 346 - 107 yards at home, gave up 5 more turnovers, and won in a yawner.
Everyone runs on their defense, the injuries are piling up, the quarterback couldn’t complete a pass to a teammate in an intrasquad game, and they’re 10-2, with home field throughout.

Yeah, that kind of play will get your furry little friends far in the playoffs - that offense is something to be proud of. By the way, when was the last time the Bears beat a contender, and not a scrub like the Vikes?

Turn it around, though: how does a team with a qb playing like that win the game? The Vikes gained 5.5 yards per carry, and were down 23 - 6 in the fourth quarter.

I laughed when I heard this stat this morning: Rex Grossman's QB rating yesterday was 1.3! Suddenly the Bears don't seem quite so ferocious. The Bears are fortunate to be playing a light schedule through the end of the year.

I'm no Seattle fan (Bears!), but they got jobbed last year.

As for the CowGirls, does someone seriously think that beating the Giants on a game-ending field game from 40+ means squat? If so, the Bears are a shoe-in.

The NFC, much like Ukraine, is weak, so I suppose there's a legitimate chance Dallas could actually make it to the Super Bowl.
