Cindy’s sweetheart is on the brink of being re-elected. However, what will he do when he is re-elected?
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez backed the possibility of holding a national referendum, if he’s re-elected, on whether to shut down private television stations that he has accused of subversive activities.
Subversive? If you mean not polishing Chavez’s apples by “subversive”, then yes they are:
Chavez’s comments late Thursday came amid rising tensions between the government and the country’s largely opposition-aligned private media ahead of Sunday’s vote.
Meanwhile, his opponent, political veteran Manuel Rosales, is running on a anti-totalitarian platform.
Update (Allahpundit): Viva las putas!

Hey, I have an idea! Let’s *vote* for the guy who’s gonna take away our right to vote!
How ironic. No wonder they live in a third world crap hole.
Tony737 on December 3, 2006 at 9:25 PM
Correction, it is why it remains a third world crap hole. Ignorance runs rampant, stupidity is the preferred mentality.
Rode Werk on December 3, 2006 at 9:42 PM
It’s not as simple as that for those people. Chavez has the power to take away everything they have if they don’t support him. He rules with fear.
Benaiah on December 3, 2006 at 9:42 PM
No, it is as simple as that, Britian tried to rule its colonies with fear, courageous men stood up against it and created the greatest form of government known.
Rode Werk on December 3, 2006 at 9:45 PM
That’s amazing.
And as Russia advances headlong into being a Muslim-majority country, there may be a whole new dimension to the Putin/Litvinenko “poisoning”.
Put simply, Putin could be the white hat or at least blameless and Litvinenko our deadly enemy.
This seems to satisfy Occam’s Razor.
Why choose a relatively huge quantity of an extremely expensive rare and easily trackable radioactive isotope?
Why?
Because it may have been no poisoning. It may have been contamination while transporting radioactive isotopes for use in a dirty bomb or nuclear trigger.
Litvinenko had recently converted to Islam, let’s not forget, and had ties to Chechen fighters.
AJ Strata has the theory, and I think he’s on to something.

Sorry, I put this underneath the wrong post. I’ll repost it. Please delete.

Chavez hates it when people lie about him… He hates it even more when people tell the truth…

I wish the Russians would poison that bastard, but of course, he’s on their side.
CP on December 3, 2006 at 10:06 PM
What? Chavez is a dictator and a bully with totalitarian tendencies? Damn, when did that start?
Any other amazing revelations? Next, you claim that the Pope is German……
Where’s Delta ( not the airline ) when you need them?
Janos Hunyadi on December 3, 2006 at 10:10 PM
He already shut down Telemundo and the BBC has him winning with 80% of the vote.
It’s very important to protect the people from bad thoughts.
hotdax on December 3, 2006 at 10:25 PM
Are we sure that his sirname isn’t Hitler, or Stalin, or something like that? Didn’t a lot of old Nazi criminals flee to South Amenrica at the end of WW II? This guy could be the spawn of one of these guys, borne and brought up to carry on the “tradition”…
Anyway, he’s filling the bill!

I hear he’s expected to win in a landslide- must be giving the people what they want. That’s the way “democracy” works, right? Will Jimmy Carter be monitoring this election? That would sure make me feel better about it.
How can the world have gone so wrong while giving all the right appearances?
Scotsman on December 3, 2006 at 10:48 PM
Exit polls as subversive activities, yeah “Porky” got that tip from Jimmy Carter.
Buzzy on December 3, 2006 at 11:37 PM
I certainly hope that nobody here is the least bit surprised by this. Boys will be boys….
Puritan1648 on December 3, 2006 at 11:58 PM
But…but he fights for “global and economic [socialist] justice!”
Isn’t losing a little TV freedom worth losing when you have so much to gain? Why Hugo promised to cap my income because I’m a brain surgeon and “make too much”. Now, I’ll make the same money as my son who bends burritos at Taco Bell! Equality achieved, and I’m grateful el Presidente helped me see the light!
Can you lower the gun from my head now?
Black Adam on December 4, 2006 at 12:19 AM
You are all wrong. Hugo Chavez fights for “economic and social [socialist] justice!”
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must go plead for my life. Viva Socialism!
Black Adam on December 4, 2006 at 12:21 AM
Indeed. Every populace deserves its leaders!
Entelechy on December 4, 2006 at 12:44 AM
Yes indeed.

Well he must’ve won fair and square, it’s on the front page of the NY Times. I’m on an overnight in NY, as I was walkin’ out of my hotel room there was a copy of that rag on the floor in front of my room. That was nice of the hotel to leave me a “paper of record”. I rolled it up and left it on the toilet paper rack and took a picture of it. Now it’s a “paper of rectum” where it belongs.
Tony737 on December 4, 2006 at 6:32 AM
Hey, I don’t see that first pull quote in the story. Down the memory hole?
albo on December 4, 2006 at 9:15 AM
Woody,
Venezuala in particular got a big influx of the “master” race.
Catseye on December 4, 2006 at 10:00 AM
Watching report on the V election on Fox; was advised by graphic that Chavez is considered a “shoe-in”. Yikes.
honora on December 4, 2006 at 2:36 PM
Really? I’ve spent a lot of time in V and was not aware of this.
honora on December 4, 2006 at 2:59 PM
Then I would suggest that you try reading a history book once in a while…
MOMinuteman on December 4, 2006 at 4:38 PM
Well I read quite a bit. Still would like a reference to the German immigration to Venezuela. Care to provide one?
honora on December 4, 2006 at 5:26 PM
I think that’s what “sorete of dog” is referring to.
Coronagold on December 4, 2006 at 6:53 PM
Don’t be surprised if the Islamofacist are eyeing Venezuela very closly.
With chaos comes oppotunity.
