Why the show of pique? Because the leftists in government can’t accept that they lost the election.
Ruling party lawmakers, chanting “Mexico wants peace,” seized the speaker’s platform where Calderon was supposed to appear, while leftist opponents blocked most of the chamber’s doors…
Mexico’s Constitution calls for Calderon to take the oath of office before Congress, and the leftists argued that he cannot become president without that formality.
Lopez Obrador, who lost the presidency to Calderon by less than a percentage point, massed thousands of supporters nearby in the capital’s main Zocalo plaza as thousands of riot police surrounded Congress to block them from moving in.
The leftist has refused to recognize Calderon’s victory, setting up a parallel government of sorts and declared himself the “legitimate president” of Mexico.
Calderon did eventually show up and take the oath to the tune of jeers and whistles. In attendance: Papa Bush and Governor Arnold, who was there to pay proper respect to the true leader of millions of Californians.
What do you do when a neighboring country is about to erupt in civil war? Ask the Saudis.

That would be the peaceful, tolerant left, wouldn’t it?
Pablo on December 1, 2006 at 11:30 AM
This really is how Pelosi should have figured out who should lead the intelligence committee. A Hastings-Harman-Reyes cagematch.
Slublog on December 1, 2006 at 11:32 AM
It’s not that funny when you realize that this is where we were headed if the Dems had lost the mid-terms.
Gregor on December 1, 2006 at 11:36 AM
Actually, that is kind of funny.
Leftists are for peaceful coexistance and the process of democracy.
PSYCH.
Good Lt on December 1, 2006 at 11:41 AM
Yeah, THAT is funny. Leftists are for tolerance and peace … as long as you don’t get in the way of their wants and desires.
Gregor on December 1, 2006 at 11:45 AM
That poor sick third world country is an absolute disaster. If the leftist Democrats in this country are not watched very closely and constantly challenged, we’ll be following in Mexico’s footsteps.

And these are the leaders of Mexico, the best they got. So if the leaders and elected persons of Mexico act this way, what do the lower class citizens act like? Mucho crime in Mexico.
And where are the lower class? Well, they’re streaming into the USA, thousands daily. Everyday an American dies at the hands (or steering wheel) of an illegal alien immigrant.
Great, just great.

How Civilized.
amerpundit on December 1, 2006 at 12:17 PM
I’m more concerned about this on the KGB/Polonium thread.
RushBaby on December 1, 2006 at 12:19 PM
How long before the Mexican goverment starts selling the Pay-Per-View rights to thier legislative sessions?
It would be sure to help their economy.
I would pay dearly to see our congress do this just once. Especially the Senate. It is so full of senile senior citizens I doubt if half of them could even muster the strength or coordination to throw a punch.
LakeRuins on December 1, 2006 at 12:51 PM
Heh. Heh.
The next best thing is the Prime Minister’s Question Time from England. I watch it on C-SPAN and it’s a hoot.

I’d just like to point out that you’re all a bunch of RACISTS!!! for pointing this incident out. I don’t exactly know why, but you probably are.
Sean M. on December 1, 2006 at 1:22 PM
Well first, Mexico is not a third world country. Second, we are planning to follow in Mexico’s footsteps but not til after the holidays. Busy, busy, busy.
honora on December 1, 2006 at 1:32 PM
Nah, Kennedy can eat all the Polonium he wants.
Honora, you scare me.

What’s truly amazing is that one or more of them didn’t bust out a gat or a shank. I would definitely expect that from them. Perhaps the gat’s come out later on when one or more of them comes out of their home to go somewhere or while they’re driving to work. Mexico is so absolutely corrupt and just about one rung above the Middle East as a whole, and I can’t remember a time when they ever weren’t. Instead of shock, I’m left wondering why this took so long to happen.
Living in San Diego, I’m right on the Mexican border. There are assassinations of low-profile police and other government representatives in or near Tijuana and the other border areas all the time that never make it on the major news networks, but our local news broadcasts the stories constantly. Sometimes they’re big enough fish to make the big networks broadcasts. They even whack their Catholic Bishops down there. They bring that mentality and “culture” of total disregard for other peoples lives and property across the border with them when they walk right on in through the ‘wilderness’ between the checkpoints. The citys that are predominately Hispanic in San Diego county are rife with crimes against people, crimes against property, drug dealing, and massive amounts of Latino gang graffiti. The Mexican gangs in San Diego, L.A., and everywhere else in the U.S. are out of control. The Hispanic “community leaders” blame it all on oppression and racism as the reason why the Mexican yutes act the way they do. Ha. Cop out bull crap. They’re just as bad, if not worse, where they come from. They bring it with them. It’s handed down from generation to generation. Amnesty for all 10 million illegal aliens? Damn the shit for brains idiot(s) who would even consider such a thing.
I used to watch the clips of the Korean governement, or the Indonesian governement, or any other bizarro world backasswards country’s government throwing blows, chairs, microphones, whatever, and think to myself that there was no hope for their entire country if the governing body couldn’t even be civilized… North American Union? No way if it includes Mexico. It would be disasterous and the very idea is perposterous.
SilverStar830 on December 1, 2006 at 2:32 PM
They need a good civil war, and in the mean time, maybe the morons running our government in the USA can fix our borders and boot the illegals out. If the illegals love Mexcio so damned much, why don’t they stop hiding here, bleeding us dry and go home and save their stinking rotten country?

Aye yi yi…
I was expecting it to look more like the fight from the “Beat It” video.
Oh well.
PaisleyCow on December 1, 2006 at 2:45 PM
…I’d have to say that Mexico has got some growin’ up to do. At least they didn’t resort to gunplay.
The fence is looking better and better to go higher and higher…stay at home, neighbors…fix your country.
Puritan1648 on December 1, 2006 at 2:49 PM
Huh. According to information from the Census Bureau and the FBI, Sacramento county has a much higher crime rate (4,134) than San Diego County (1,589).
Sacramento county is 18% hispanic.
San Diego is 29%.
Figured I’d point that out. For nuance’s sake.

Has NBC News made the executive decision to call the situation in Mexico a Civil War yet? As far as I know, know one in Iraq has set up an alternate, shadow government yet like Lopez Obrador has.
Dudley Smith on December 1, 2006 at 3:17 PM
the heads of u.s. lefties are only two degrees cooler than obrador’s coalition.
the mess in oaxaca is what seattle could easily have been.
don’t be so smug that its not happening here…yet.
jummy on December 1, 2006 at 4:10 PM
That settles it. I’m moving to… someplace less effed-up than the States.
As soon as I figure out where that is.
Dinsdale Piranha on December 1, 2006 at 4:19 PM
That was the Mexican government? I thought it was a clip from the Democratic convention.
right2bright on December 1, 2006 at 7:17 PM
If Mexico isn’t a third world country I’m wondering when they got downgraded to fourth world status. Mexico will be a socialist country like Venezuela within the next 8 years and we’ll have 40 million legalized Mexican socialists within our borders by then too. History will someday view globalization as what brought down western civilization, IMHO.

Now if we can just get the GOP to get this hot….at least grow a little spine, sport a little wood, bow a little neck, open a few cans of W-Ass. We never acted like the majority when we were, so let’s act like we are now. Embrace Reaganism and live it, improve upon it, and in so doing bring along the American people. Field of Dreams GOP, Field of Dreams….you build it and they will come(and no we don’t mean illegal immigrants)
Ronald Reagan: “America is too great for small dreams”…

You are aware you can look stuff up on the internet? Go to the World Bank site and you will find the definition and the current lists of first, second, third world. (There was a time when unaligned nations were referred to as third world, during the Cold War, but even in that context, Mexico would not qualify. It now is purely a development measure–most third world nations are in Africa).
