[...] Formerly known as Judge Hastings, of course, before he was impeached by a Democratic House stacked with future all-stars, including Pelosi, Hoyer, Rangel, Waxman, Frank, Dingell, Boxer, Durbin, Gephardt, and the Glacier’s own colleague from New York, Chuck Schumer, all of whom voted in the affirmative. Now he’s a Democratic congressman held in high enough regard that he almost earned himself the chairmanship of the House intel committee — until, that is, the “haters” like Michelle Malkin brought him down.
[...] Actually, that standing O might have had nothing to do with Jefferson. I haven’t blogged Conyers’s ethics scandal because there’s really no point in doing so: having passed over Alcee Hastings for Intel chair last month and stripped Jefferson of his seat on the Ways and Means Committee in June, ain’t no way no chance no how Pelosi is going to move against another black congressman in a leadership position. She might have alienated enough House members by opposing Hoyer that she can’t afford to antagonize the CBC now too. That round of applause for Jefferson might have been their way of showing solidarity just in case she’s thinking of booting Conyers. [...]

If not, I’ll wait. It can’t be that much longer before they declare a “victory” again.

gekkobear on November 29, 2006 at 4:27 PM

They are claiming that Alcee was never really considered for the post, he was just one of many under consideration. You see he was never asked, before he was un-asked.
The one they really want will be asked, who he/she is don't ask. Harmon is the ranking member to be asked but won't be asked. What is their reasoning? Don't ask. Someone needs to kick Pelosi's ask.

Just what is Pelosi’s gripe with the House intelligence committee ranking Democrat, Jane Harman?

She seems to have a serious grudge against the woman.

Anyways, Pelosi is 0-2 it seems and I couldn’t be happier for it. Keep up the good work! LOL!!!!

Yakko77 on November 28, 2006 at 10:24 PM

Harman supported the NSA, and Pelosi demands 100% toe the line extreme liberal agenda support.

Harman has wider support and is considered a person who can work with the other party, Pelosi's agenda is to attack and destroy...even if it means weakening the U.S.

Pelosi cannot share the spotlight with Harman, Harman is just too intellectual for Pelosi to handle. I am not a supporter of Harman but I admire her independence, something the Democrats cannot afford.

Oh shoot, I wasn't paying attention.

Has anyone as Kos, HuffPo, etc. explained how this is a victory for the leadership abilities of Pelosi, and not another failure of her ability to reach a stated goal?

Alcee Hastings: "I’m An Innocent Victim of Politics"

Curly... "I'm a victim of circumstance."

For some reason, every time one of these knuckleheads speak, I hear a little stooge in there. I don’t know, it could just be me, but I doubt it.

Well, that changes matters. I suppose I can wait while God finishes hating. I didn’t realize there was a line. It makes sense that God would be at the front though.

Just what is Pelosi's gripe with the House intelligence committee ranking Democrat, Jane Harman?

She seems to have a serious grudge against the woman.

Anyways, Pelosi is 0-2 it seems and I couldn't be happier for it. Keep up the good work! LOL!!!!

To answer the question, "Who is Silvestre Reyes?"...

His voting record indicates that he has some independent views, and isn't a Pelosi/Murtha/Frank clone, which might be considered good news, but he is far from desirable on many significant issues.

Some key votes that could be called "off the reservation" for a liberal include:

- Against hate crimes expansion to include 'gender orientation' language
- Against repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" (no idea which way I feel about this, it was a stupid concept when created, but the gays now want it to go away)
- Against giving citizenship rights to the undocumented non-married partners of citizens
- For ban on partial birth abortion
- For prohibition on human cloning
- Against permitted DoJ funds to enforce any form of ban on Pledge of Allegiance in schools
- For death penalty and mandatory minimum sentencing
- For flag desecration amendment
- Against medical marijuana
- For Patriot Act reauthorization
- For parental notification prior to minor's abortion
- For off-shore drilling for oil and natural gas
- For drilling in ANWR
- For continued DoD funding and use of DoD property for Boy Scouts events
- For federal takeover of Mt. Soledad Cross site (San Diego tried for four years to have the cross removed, having it named a national memorial site under the federal program saves it)

All that said, his voting record certainly labels him a secular progressive, to borrow O'Reilly's term, and most of those have no bearing on the position he is now being considered for, chairman of the select committee on intelligence.

In that realm, his votes are squarely aligned with the ACLU regarding military commissions, warrantless wiretapping, detainee intelligence gathering methods, etc. He is also an opponent of any immigration restraints, favors most flavors of hate crimes laws, and seems to be no friend to Christians.

Does Pelosi serve crow at her San Fran resturants? Or has she ran out of it.
You know she is slowly being backed into a corner to choose Jane.
I love Pelosi! She is better than Kerry.
