Eventually he accused me of “projecting things that I didn’t say, and then me trying to clear that up instead of a debate” and while I think it’s fair to say I was picking some nits, I also think his own words did an excellent job of convicting him and that I wasn’t “projecting” anything. I think it was just pretty uncomfortable for it to be pointed out just exactly how his liberal outlook translates to normal English. The final example in the series – his response to my statement that anyone who didn’t know they had options besides the military to pay for college was too stupid to enlist. They’re not “too stupid” to know other options…they just aren’t given those options, or at least not nearly as clearly as someone in a higher socio-economic position. [...]

On 9/11/01, I was 4 months short of 20 years on active duty. Not a soul on earth could claim I was getting out because we were at war, I had done my time.

Other military folks here can testify to just how hard it is to reverse the wheels of a retirement package only four months away. That’s a train under full steam, that was set in motion more than six months before, and it isn’t something that often stops short of the station.

Instead of watching my shipmates get underway on Veteran’s Day, 11/11/01, as the first battlegroup to deploy following 9/11, I was aboard with them, a 20 month extention set in place allowing me to do my tiny part in helping the U.S. pull down the Taliban in Afghanistan.

I’m such a loser. Had a pension at my fingertips, and put myself back to work on the “roof” of the USS John C. Stennis yet again. If only there had been a decent alternative, I wouldn’t have ~~needed~~ wanted to keep serving.

Rep. Rangel, I dare you to go visit the heroes in Iraq and tell them what you tell your sheeple liberal constituents. Tell the patriots in uniform what the MSM slurps up from your drool. Tell the warriors who serve with honor and virtue what you who, couldn’t conceive of real service, put down as foolish.

Shamalama – My son was accepted into USNA prior to 9/11… He wanted to serve his country and he wanted to fly.
I will NEVER forget being “invited” to visit again after 9/11. The Navy/Marines gave everyone an opportunity to opt out after it became obvious that we were at war.

He has this idea that the military is composed of poor black boys that, if the government would simply give them good jobs, wouldn’t join the military. He’s tried and tried to institute a military draft so that rich white boys would be forced to serve – with the goal of having rich white moms prevent the government from going to war ever again.

Uh, I’m pretty much middle class, I’m white … and my son chose the Marine JROTC in high school and then chose to serve his country as a US Marine -before- 9/11 happened. He really didn’t care about the bonus, the educational benefits are serving him well today, but he simply wanted to serve his country … period. It’s called Patriotism. Therefore according to my limited experience Charles Rangel is not only wrong – he’s dumb as a stick.
