…find a copy (Blockbusters, etc.) of “Downfall” with Bruno Ganz. It’s in German with subtitles, but is as close to seeing Hitler as a person — never “normal” — as you’re ever going to see. It’s bone-chilling in places. There was even a little controversy when it came out in Germany that it “humanized” Hitler.

You can humanize Hitler about as easily as you can have a lox and bagels and bridge over with the Husseins after Uday and Qusay go out to the sock hop.

Excellent treatment of the subject. The last days of the Third Reich…with St. Petersburg standing in for Berlin. Ironic.

Is there a coach that you CAN’T lipread? I think its pretty obvious what most of them are saying on the sideline. And its not “aw shucks” either :)

Most NFL football coaches are savvy about lip readers and will shield their mouths with a play chart when they call the play into the quarterback. Then are those “unscripted” moments when it is plain as day what is being said, such as Pete Carroll of USC swearing across the sidelines at Mike Bellotti of my beloved Oregon Ducks.
