Edwards-Obama: Dream Ticket?
posted at 3:25 pm on November 22, 2006 by Ian
The lamest ticket ever:
When introducing former vice presidential candidate John Edwards at a book signing this week, a family friend mentioned a bumper sticker she’d seen around town: “Edwards-Obama.” The giddy audience roared with approval.
Both Edwards and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama insist they have yet to decide whether they are running for president, but both are drawing big crowds as they follow the modern script of a White House candidate and head out on nationwide book tours. The self-promoting promenades give both an excuse to tour early 2008 primary states — without having to publicly commit to a campaign.
Though, somehow, somewhere, Republicans will find some way to screw this perfect storm up.

Now, I feel sorry for John Kerry.

It’s my dream ticket for the Dems — should be an easy win.

How can you leave Howard Dean out completely? He’s the true dream candidate.

We should expect the New York Times to really start puffing these two up.

Major policy differences though.
May have to square their positions with the lefty brain trust before they get going.
Blacksheep on November 22, 2006 at 3:51 PM
There’s no way that the Republican Party would be that lucky.

Or,
Sheehan/LaMont — the Nutroots will be in complete moongasm and wouldn’t contribute time or money to anyone else.
mesablue on November 22, 2006 at 3:53 PM
I haven’t seen a Republican ticket nearly as strong as Edwards/Obama. Both are charismatic, idealistic, attractive, well-spoken, and likeable. Maybe not the ideal characteristics you want in President–but definitely ideal characteristics in a candidate. The general public–and especially the MSM would eat them up.
And if they best dirt you have on Obama is that he blew a few lines in his college days that’s bad news. You better start digging deeper…
JaHerer22 on November 22, 2006 at 3:53 PM
Edwards/Obama – Truly a triumph of style over substance.
xardoz on November 22, 2006 at 3:54 PM
Yeah, I don’t get why this is a “dream ticket” for Republicans. It avoids Hillary’s negatives and has plenty of geographical and racial appeal. I’m afraid of this ticket, quite frankly.

Kennedy/Murtha = War Against Terror replaced by War Against Whippersnappers
BohicaTwentyTwo on November 22, 2006 at 3:56 PM
Americans are tired of candidates that have rotted away in the Senate for the last 40 years, especially after all the scandals of the past year. Regardless of party, I think relatively young, fresh, different, and energetic is the way to market yourself in ’08.
JaHerer22 on November 22, 2006 at 3:58 PM
Dems get both houses and Reps get the White House. The Edwards Obama ticket sounds like a great compromise. That’ll keep the ever growing dissent against both parties down…
Then we keep on chugging towards the
NAUSecurity and Prosperity Partnership…Theworldisnotenough on November 22, 2006 at 3:59 PM
Well they could easily defeat the Tancredo/Paul ticket. We do need a dynamic conservative… Well spoken, articulate, not an insider, maybe a little racial appeal, hey wait a minute!
Theworldisnotenough on November 22, 2006 at 4:02 PM
tancredo/santorum ’08!
jummy on November 22, 2006 at 4:08 PM
The article doesn’t mention that it was at a liberal women’s college (Meredith College) here in Raleigh, NC. Here is the local spin on the Breck boy’s visit to Raleigh. There was no mention if Edwards dropped by WalMart on the way to or from the forum.
By the way. The reporter for this story, David Crabtree, is one of the anchors for WRAL and is a big ol’ lib, but the newscast itself is fairly even.
SouthernGent on November 22, 2006 at 4:14 PM
I do not know. After Democrats managed to get James Webb into the Senate in Virginia, I think these two might actually make for tough competition. Neither is surrounded by much (if any) controversy, and with the current push for new blood, particularly of the Democratic persuasion, recently, they might make for tough competition by simply saying they will push for change and otherwise remaining positive in their campaign.

Not to worry, O Wise One. The Crest WhiteStrips/Mousse bill will eat up any strategic reserves of Dhimmi ca$h.

Will christopher reeves walk if we elect edwards this time? I like do-overs :(

Was gonna say UltraBright/Dippidy-Doo bill, but that wouldn’t have meant anything to the younger folks out here.
hillbillyjim on November 22, 2006 at 4:34 PM
Heh.
Don’t forget pomade.
Theworldisnotenough on November 22, 2006 at 4:34 PM
Only the Democrats would think that never having done anything significant makes a candidate stronger. Sure, you have less of a paper trail, which makes it easier for liberals to pretend not to be liberals in order to fool the public. But Edwards-Obama leaves you with two empty-suited pretty boys, the former a crooked trial lawyer who pretended to channel dead girls in order to make himself rich, and the latter a complete neophyte whose greatest achievement thus far was giving a speech at the 2004 Democratic convention. I certainly can’t say after the last elections that the American public isn’t stupid enough to vote two lightweights like that into office, but nothing good will come of it if they do.
ReubenJCogburn on November 22, 2006 at 4:37 PM
Now you’re speakin’ the Dems’ language. That’s all they want is candidates, they don’t want to lead or do anything positive for the country. They want to gain power through lies, and then maintain it by further lies, and never get a thing done.
RightWinged on November 22, 2006 at 4:50 PM
So far MesaBlue has the best Nancyboy ticket with Dean/Sheehan. Can anybody top that one?
How ’bout:
Sheehan/McKinney?
Mathews/Olbermann?
Rather/Couric?
Franken/Springer?
Balwin/Afleck?
Clarke/Clark?
Pelosi/ … Gary … c’mon guys, help me out here, what’s the name of the guy who killed the intern he was bangin’? That was *one* dude who was happy about 9/11, ’cause it got his name off of the headlines. Dammit, I can see his face…

Well, I for one, am ashamed that Edwards is from my home state of North Carolina. Anyone wanna buy a record? ROFL.

…oh…shoulda said, “Any y’all wanna buy a record?”
tickleddragon on November 22, 2006 at 5:07 PM
Tony737 – I’m not entirely sure, because I only vaguely remember the story, but, I believe the police said that Gary Condit was cleared of any suspicion in the death of his intern Chandra Levy. He did benefit because 9/11 got rid of the news he was involved with an intern, but, I don’t think he was a supect in her death.
JadeNYU on November 22, 2006 at 5:55 PM
CONDIT! That’s it! Thanks Rueben! I knew somebody would come through for me. Good job.
Jim, yeah I thought the same thing when I wrote it. Frankenspringer … some sorta Translyvannia hunting dog or a box of cereal.

The celebrity candidates – as if being president and vice president is all for show. If by chance this was ever a reality, who would be the real power behind the airheads?

Hunter/Tancredo 08 sounds nice. No name recognition and they’re both dark horses, but it could be fun.

I’m all about hunter in 08. Or Gingrich. Or both!
Hunter/Gingrich. Kickin’ ass!

A senator and an ex-senator with no distinguishable executive experience. Edwards/Obama sounds like a loser to me.

AP, I think you had it right the first time:
Edwards is a complete and total nitwit. The Breck Girl is the perfect description. The ultimate empty suit.
Obama is a huge step up from Edwards, but zero experience, zero accomplishment, and already with the negatives. I am not afraid of these dips. Hillary is still the candidate to beat.
I don’t care how many people claim they will never vote for her; people change their minds.
Jaibones on November 22, 2006 at 6:21 PM
Edwards-Obama would be confusing. One guy’s famous for a speech about two Americas, the other for a speech about how we’re actually only one America. They should settle that before they team up.
Alex K on November 22, 2006 at 6:38 PM
Great! I can’t wait. We, of course, could counter with
somethink like Cheney – Steele. That particular match-up could lead to the following
1) memorable line from the Presidential debates:
“I refuse to exploit, for political purposes, the youth and inexperience of my opponent.”
2) memorable line from the Vice-Presidential debates:
“I knew Martin Luther King Junior — Martin Luther King Junior was a friend of mine. You, sir, are no Martin Luther King Junior”

Pelosi – Fonda, perhaps – to unite the party?
Emmett J. on November 22, 2006 at 7:38 PM
We’re not serious if in these times we hand over the job of running the free world to two relatively good looking ‘teenagers’.
To be President of the U.S. is not a matter of marketing attributes, if we are a serious nation. That is a big “if”, however.
Entelechy on November 22, 2006 at 8:39 PM
Your point is right on the money!
IF
Think hard about this one – haven’t many (to be fair, not all) people based their choice upon how the candidate is marketed rather than a fair, balanced picture of what the candidate’s strengths and weaknesses are?
Haven’t the American people succumbed to the glitz and glare of prepackaged candidates?
Haven’t we, collectively, proven for the last several elections, that we can be bought with empty promises as well as with false hopes and dreams?
Bought with the proverbial bread and wine of Caeserian eletions…..
Haven’t we, collectively, ceased to be serious?
Have we, collectively, settled for being content to be the politicians’ punch line in the joke that they play upon we, the people, every two (or four) years?
Think about it…..
Emmett J. on November 22, 2006 at 8:57 PM
Emmett, I think about it all the time. We’ve become the land of the fake. However, if we don’t wake up soon from this bloated slumber, the second Rome will decline much faster…

Barack Obama/Oprah Winfrey
No one could be that ticket.
UnEasyRider on November 22, 2006 at 11:43 PM
Edwards/Obama?
First wave of Cannon Fodder to fall to Arkancide.
Edwards would wind up under a bus after slipping on an icy pavement in New Jersey in the middle of July. While Obama would get out of politics altogether after witnessing it all.
Just a thought.
Jack.
Jack Deth on November 23, 2006 at 11:09 AM
Barack Obama is a muslim trojan horse, but no one will dare to bring it up for fear of being labeled racist or islamophobe.
We know nothing about his positions beyond kennedyesque platitudes. The press has already crowned him the savior of America. He’s almost beyond criticism.
If he runs, he will be elected…
