Alcee Hastings to Dems: Support me — or Michelle Malkin wins

It’s the left’s very own moronic version of “If X doesn’t happen, then the terrorists have already won.” With “X” in this case defined as his appointment to the chairmanship of the House Intel Committee and “terrorists” loosely defined as anyone who’s ever spoken at CPAC.

I hope that my fate is not determined by Newt Gingrich, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Michael Barone, Drudge, anonymous bloggers, and other assorted misinformed fools. Nor should faceless and nameless people at the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Times, the L.A. Times, the Dallas Morning News, and others take liberties without at least giving me an opportunity to respond.

Alas for poor Hastings, the boss has already completed her magical journey through time back to August 3, 1988, where she’s fiendishly rigged the House vote to make it look like every major politician in today’s Democratic universe assented to impeaching his ass.

She did a really thorough job, too:

One of the newcomers to the House was the future Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who had been in office a little more than a year. She voted to impeach Hastings.

Rep. Steny Hoyer, the future Majority Leader, also voted to impeach. And so did the lawmakers who will soon chair powerful House committees. Rep. Conyers, now in line to become chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, voted to impeach. Rep. Charles Rangel, soon to chair the Ways and Means Committee, voted to impeach. Rep. Barney Frank, in line to head the Financial Services Committee, voted to impeach. Rep. Henry Waxman, next chair of the Government Reform Committee, voted to impeach. Rep. John Dingell, in line to chair the Energy and Commerce Committee, voted to impeach…

So did other well-known Democratic lawmakers like Rep. John Lewis, Rep. (and later Sen.) Barbara Boxer, Rep. (and later Sen.) Charles Schumer, Rep. (and later Sen.) Richard Durbin, Rep. Ed Markey, Rep. Ron Dellums, Rep. Julian Dixon, and Rep. Richard Gephardt.

By emphasizing his acquittal in federal court and downplaying the subsequent impeachment proceedings, he’s essentially asking Pelosi and co. to rebuke themselves for having voted as they did and admit that their findings of fact at the time were wrong. Which is precisely the message a new Democratic majority wants to send to a public in the process of forming opinions about their judgment.

That takes something special. Something Alcee Hastings has plenty of.

I was gettin’ worried you weren’t going to post this! Hilarious. Malkin should consider this some kind of weird victory… getting Hastings’ attention, enought that he specifically mentioned her in his letter. Classic.

I didn’t realize that the New York Times and Los Angeles Times were bastions of right-wing thought. And without trying to sound too snobbish, I’m not sure The Dallas Morning News has that kind of clout where they need to be feared.

asc85 on November 22, 2006 at 11:29 PM

If your name isn’t mentioned are you just a random “misinformed fool”? I guess a misinformed fool is someone who remembers history?

lorien1973 on November 22, 2006 at 11:31 PM

By the way AP, is “the boss” even aware of this yet? I emailed her with this earlier too, though I know she gets so much mail she probably didn’t even see it. Either way, I can’t believe she hasn’t heard yet, I’m just surprised she hasn’t posted.

RightWinged on November 22, 2006 at 11:31 PM

asc85, I’m from the Dallas area and you’re right about our paper here. The only ones that need to fear the DMN are the neighborhood rabbits when they throw the Sunday fishwrapper with its 15 pounds of ads.

The Dems seemingly hate history. For example, you’d think the majority of Dems didn’t support the war in Iraq at first if your grasp of history was less than 3 years or so.

Yakko77 on November 22, 2006 at 11:48 PM

…anonymous bloggers, and other assorted misinformed fools…

This, as mentioned above, might be the only time our paths and those of the NYT don’t diverge.

Who are these ‘anonymous bloggers’, outside of AP?

Are they us? Are we all the “assorted misinformed fools”?

He sure has a high opinion of himself.

I shutter at who will hold the security and intelligence of this country in his head palm.

Yakko77 on November 22, 2006 at 11:48 PM

Worse than that, the Dems spent the 13 years leading up to the war in Iraq arguing that there were WMDs there. Clinton even made regime change in Iraq our policy in 1998, a month before attacking them himself, with language you think was ripped out of a Bush state of the union… except it was probably even stronger.

Allcee forgot to add the name of Mary Katharine Ham to his list of “misinformed fools”.

Though, if Michelle and so many others are “misinformed”, why is Alcee whining like such a little baby?

I’ve a feeling that Pelosi is going to cave and throw Alcee under the bus and seriously P.O. the CBC in the process.

Jack.

It’s the left’s very own moronic version of “If X doesn’t happen, then the terrorists have already won.”

If I am making an incorrect assumption, please let me know. I am assuming by (moronic) version of “If/ then… have..won.”, you are implying that Pres. Bush’s statement was moronic.

I must take exception for this reason: The forces allied against us rejoiced when the results of our last election were apparent. I feel that the terrorists have “won” at least a publicity, and a “hearts-and-minds” battle. I don’t think that our terrorist enemies have “won the war” yet. However, to deny that Democratic gains in our government weren’t at least a “battlefield” victory for terrorists would be to ignore the policies espoused by Dem.s and realities in our geo-political world. The enemies of our nation were emboldened by the results of 11/07/’06.

Therefore, I submit that “Dubya” wasn’t so moronic, after all. Thank you for your attention.

hillbillyjim on November 23, 2006 at 12:24 AM

O.J. was acquitted in his criminal trial. O.J. is Black too. Why not appoint him chairman of the House Intelligence Committee?
Then Alcee Hastings can write a book called How I Would Have Taken a Bribe If I Had Done It.

Dr. Charles G. Waugh on November 23, 2006 at 12:25 AM

As for I’ll See Hastings:

Why does Lugosi, sorry, Pelosi, front for him?

Same thing per Murtha. She must owe a Stinkpile of back-door debts or SOMETHING.

hillbillyjim on November 23, 2006 at 12:32 AM

Come to think of it, having Nancy Pelosi head the new Democratic Congress is like have having a Hen guard the Fox House.

I guess for that post to make sense, I assumed (maybe presumptively) that X = Demo’s Victory. Sorry–should have been clearer–easy to see faults in my message when I went back and read it in context of thread.

hillbillyjim on November 23, 2006 at 12:37 AM

“support me or Malkin wins”??

Uhhhhh, I choose the latter, you bribe-taking pusbag: Malkin Wins !!

Do we get any more easy tests like this? Someone ( hint ) should dig up the C-Span footage and / or the transcripts from the House impeachment hearings on Hastings

Janos Hunyadi on November 23, 2006 at 12:38 AM

ALCEE HASTINGS
BAAA,HA.HA,HA,HA,HA,HA,HA,HA,WAAAA
The man’s a criminal. The Congress blew it big time with this turkey when they impeached, and convicted, then didn’t ban him from holding ANY government office whatsoever. Shame on you Alcee. Find a rock, crawl under and don’t ever come out!

Could this be the first tentative step in a lib/dem attempt to muzzle successful right-leaning media? (talk radio and political blogs with whom they disagree)?? Stranger things have come from the Moonbat whiners.

hillbillyjim on November 23, 2006 at 2:43 AM

Michelle! You gotta help me out. Go back to August 3, 1988 again and stop by my house so you can warn me against smoking outside my parents’ house. I got busted taking drags out on the patio at the end of that month–right before my 18th birthday. It sucked.

I would send Marty McFly, but he’s obviously too irresponsible. He couldn’t even be bothered to read an ammendment he supported.

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.” [Marcus Tullius Cicero]

A better description of the modern day Democratic Party I cannot find.

I hope AP is already working up a “Dewey Wins” photoshop for when Hastings gets shot down, with the headline “Malkin Wins”!

Wade on November 23, 2006 at 9:37 AM

What I WANT Alcee to win ! Im sure Michelle and many of the rest of us woud LOVE to see Alcee as the head of the intel committee.

I already have ammo ready for that

William Amos on November 23, 2006 at 10:38 AM

Alcee Hastings, a convicted crook, should not be in Congress much less heading up such an important committee. He sees this chairmanship position as merely another income opportunity.

Seems that impeached Democrats wear their corruption as a badge of honor.

The absurdity of Alcee Hastings is just beyond comprehension. We joke and choke, but this is horribly real.

But it cannot survive treason from within.
georgej on November 23, 2006 at 4:52 AM

I dont know whether to joke or scream. So I’ll just read and be thankful for you all and Michelle and all the wonderfulness in the US of A today. And pray that no one like Pelosi or Alcee takes any of it away.

Is that confidence really ‘foolishly ambitious’? Alcee is both. And that may be dangerous.

Scooby Doo… “Scooby Doooooo…! Heheheeeheeeeee…”.

Mexican Bandit… “Badges? We ain’t got no badges. We don’t need no badges. I don’t have to show you any stinking badges!”

I hope that my fate is not determined…anonymous bloggers, and other assorted misinformed fools. Nor should faceless and nameless people…and others take liberties without at least giving me an opportunity to respond.

…hmmm…pundits and the proletariat, the bane of the perpetual incumbent.

America (and our armed forces, the prime recipients of the intelligence he’d be “overseeing” were he to win) have had Mr. Hastings foisted upon them by an anonymous and, seemingly, misinformed electorate in his district. Why shouldn’t he, then, with overwhelming power and free access to the deepest of our nation’s defense secrets, be made to feel uncomfortable. Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown, after all.

But, just as evident, is the fact that all we anonymous and misinformed fools out here in electorate land must remember: this isn’t about national security, good governance or what’s best for the nation. What’s of *PRIME* importance here is Mr. Hastings’ *FATE*, which, of course, he doesn’t want determined by those pundits and we unwashed prols…the way it is with *ALL* other public figures, from Michael Richards to Pelosi to Murtha to the President himself.

He evidently thinks that he’s some special case, worthy of special consideration. Considering his actions culminating in the events of 1988, I’d say that he was right.

The problem for Mr. Hastings is that special consideration would be to overlook any seniority his safe seat gives him and to consign him to harmless duties until the electorate of his district has sense enough to realize that the hood they foisted upon the nation is going nowhere.

In other words: every logical thinking person in touch with the media today? “Gee, I hope no one notices what a loser I am.” “Gee I hope no one brings up the fact that I’m completely unqualified for this position.” I mean what sort of defense is that?

Confidence?

Yeah, Pat, you could say it that way, if you wanted to be kind.

Show of hands, who here would like their fate determined by Newt, Sean, Ann, and Michelle? I’m fairly certain I’d be quite ok with that.

Newt could be the president, Ann Coulter the Attorney General, Sean Hannity for State, and Michelle for Press Secretary. While I’m at it, Mark Levin at Treasury, Thomas Sowell at Education (Don’t worry, he’d push for it to be abolished), Joseph Farah for U.N. Ambassador. Hmm, maybe Rush would like to be Newt’s Chief of Staff.

Wouldn’t that be the start of a nightmare for Alcee Hastings and his ilk?
