FDR and WWII mark a time when the United States Government realized a necessary fundamental of winning a war is unity on the home front. Common purpose, common values, common goals come not only from a good cause that makes sense, but also from recognizing the inevitable sedition and treason that infiltrates the home front in any war.

In WWII the United States maintained it’s unity and common purpose by drawing a line between Freedom of the Press, Discent, Sedition, and Treason. That line has been almost non-existant since the 1960s and has turned into our single biggest weakness.

Our enemies in Vietnam and Iraq both catered to the Left to support their cause. Their victories were not military, they were political that were supported by our own Left. Even in this last month insurgent offensives in Iraq were timed not gain military advantage but to aid the Left in our own elections.

I envy the clarity, the purpose, the common values of those in the 1940s. Theirs was a tough fight, but they had the common sense to understand how essential maintaining unity on the home front is. Unfortunately we do not have leadership that recognizes this crucial requisite in any military victory.

Sorry, EL. I didn’t mean to impugn. I was just observing that as a blonde “all-American” girl, she could hardly pass as a bedouin. But now that I think about it, she would probably be covered in a burqa, so maybe it’s fine.

But kudos for supporting independent film.

But the festival highlight (for me anyway) was Border War …which I highly recommend that everyone see.

Actually what the Trib published was a joint staff study called the ‘Victory Program,’ which was devised by the British and American military officials about sharing resources and materiel if the US joined the war. (I think) It was somewhat out of date by then, but nevertheless, the fact that it was leaked would have had serious implications for FDR had the Japanese not attacked a few days later. I don’t think Rainbow Five, which was the US’s war plan for fighting Japan and Germany, was leaked.

Always though Spongebob looked suspiciously like a yellow Ka’aba. Which I took to be a slur on the manhood of jihadis.

Or am I reading too much into the kids’ cartoons’ messages?

Sorry, first “kid” that came to mind (Man On Fire). In spite of having 3 sons between 12 and 6, I don’t watch too many films with young children in them.

My two youngest are still into Spongebob… I can’t wait for them to grow out of that one…

The New Dealers’ War: FDR and the War Within World War II by Thomas Fleming, claims that FDR knowingly lied when he said: “that he would never send American soldiers to fight beyond America’s shores,” and that he planned all along to get America into war against both Japan and particularly Hitler’s Germany.

Sound Familiar?

Fleming wrote an American Heritage article in 1987 on this topic, titled “The Big Leak.”

So big was the leak that it might have caused us to lose World War II. So mysterious is the identity of the leaker that we can’t be sure to this day who it was … or at least not entirely sure.

Shades of the NY Times…..

Many think that the newly prepared war plan against Nazi Germany was leaked to the Chicago Tribune in order to sabotage FDR’s efforts. Other’s think that the existance of the war plan (and it’s disclosure in the Tribune) was the reason that Germany Declared war upon America right after Pearl Harbor.

Pearl Harbor silenced the isolationists and even the Chicago Tribune ceased it’s isolationist opposition to FDR foreign policies.

The point is that a “DNN”-like newsreel, critical of FDR and his planned war with Germany could very will have been created and shown in movie theaters across America on December 6th, 1941.

But not after 12/7/41.
