Obama calls for troop withdrawal in 6 months

posted at 8:53 pm on November 20, 2006 by Ian

Don’t think he’s running in 2008? Think again:

Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, called this afternoon for troop withdrawal from Iraq starting next year and negotiations with Iran and Syria over the war-torn country’s future.

Obama is moving farther and farther to the left as Democrats and Republicans claim their candidancy in the upcoming Presidential election.

Meanwhile, SurveyUSA released the results for their 50-state poll of potential 2008 candidates. When Obama is polled against any Republican nominee, he loses. He loses by a lot.

Good. Let them stake out their positions as soon as possible.

This jerk has no idea what he is doing . . . but why should that surprise us of a politician. This poor sick society is in deep trouble.

rplat on November 20, 2006 at 9:03 PM

Obama, Obama, Obama. It’s fun to say it out loud. Not fun would be saying “President Obama”. Worse would be “President Clinton, Hillary Clinton”.

Obama is moving farther and farther to the left as Democrats and Republicans claim their candidancy in the upcoming Presidential election.

He might want to speak with Ned Lamont on how well that strategy worked for him. Perhaps he feels he can be a new, improved Freshmaker. By the way, I know he’s standing in front of Superman there, but my first reaction was that he might be relieving himself. Fortunately, the person taking the picture spared us from seeing it.

SurveyUSA? Ah yes, which claimed that Steele and Cardin were neck and neck at 47-47% a week before Cardin crushed Steele 54-43%, right?

Color me skeptical. 1/3 of the country still doesn’t know who Obama is. So how does Obama do against a more likely GOP nominee, like Romney, Huckabee or Brownback?

I just don’t see McCain or Giuliani getting the nod.

Grebrook on November 20, 2006 at 9:11 PM

Right, the ones who know him think he’s a kid, a nicely behaved one. No one knows what he’s done, even since he won the Senate seat. Once they’ll really know him they’ll be even less luke-warm about him than they are now.

Entelechy on November 20, 2006 at 9:34 PM

…1/3 of the country still doesn’t know who Obama is…

And 1/3 less would know who he is if the media wasn’t making him out to be the best ever ever ever.

He can also play/placate the nutroots as Hillary’s VP. They can say that in 8 more years he’ll be more mature and learned, from the queen’s experience.

Obama is a superman. A superman. A superman. (Follow a Eminem’s superman beat)

Apart from Iraq, we do not know his position in a lot issues; but we know his name. He always comes to the rescue. Just call his name.

Obama is a superman. A superman. A superman. (Follow a Eminem’s superman beat)

Ouabam on November 20, 2006 at 9:50 PM

I don’t know if it can be found, but there are some great excerpts to be found when Cavuto interviewed Jackie Mason.

His main point on double standards was how all these people seem to believe that Michael Steele wouldn’t be a good Senator though he has a strong record as Lieutenant Governor, meanwhile Barack Obama is an amazing political talent with strong potential to be President and he’s only spent 2 years in the Senate (and several in the state senate).

JoeEgo on November 20, 2006 at 9:56 PM

Will he next have a Big O on his chest? Sorry Oprah is the big O. Maybe he can use B.O.

dallas94 on November 20, 2006 at 9:56 PM

Obama isn’t moving farther to the left. He just feels safer letting it show. The first time I heard him speak (at the 2004 Dem Convention) it was quite obvious that he was a socialist through and through.

An eloquent speaker, you have to be able to read/hear the meaning between the well selected words, but it is there if you have sense to listen analytically.

The terrorists saw the Democrats a mile away. ‘Hey, the media will play up the blood and Gore, and the Dems will play up the media reports causing public opinion to turn against the war, and in they end they’ll pull out… if we can just keep blowing up innoccents’. If we had maintained a unified front, does anyone think we’d be in the situation we are right now? The terrorists aren’t idiots, they knew what they’ve been doing all along. If the entire country said “we’ll stay and crush them” 3 years ago, they wouldn’t have been emboldened with the idea that they can defeat us. Thanks Democrats.

Well-stated. I say we send in more troops, crush the rebellion, THEN start talking about troop withdrawal. This non-sense of diplomacy with Iran or leaving with the insurgency intact makes us look terribly weak, and will ultimately make us more of a target in the future.

What has Obama done and what is on his resume of public service and accomplishments? He gave a speech at the convention and appeared to be a moderating voice for the Donks. He is young, attractive, articulate, and black. Up till now that seems to be enough to have the Donks fall in love with him. Nice of him to show how far to the left he is going to plant himself. His true colors are beginning to show.

I can’t wait until Obama makes a run. Either he loses out in the primaries and the nutroots cry racism at registered Dems (in the South??) or he becomes the Pres/Veep candidate and the whole damned party cries RAAAAACISM at the 51-55% of the electorate who are irrationally voting against their self interest.

Yeah, I’m sure that crackpot Brent Bozell and the MRC are more reliable right, because they’re right-wingers? A nutjob who claims Joseph McCarthy was an “American hero” and Walter Cronkite was secretly a spy for the Soviet Union? Pathetic. Media Matters uses actual video and audio clips to back up its claims. If you have a problem with Media Matters, you apparently also have a problem with reality. The reason right-wing fanatics like you despise MM so much is because they make fools out of by catching Republicans when they put their foots in their mouths.

Grebrook on November 21, 2006 at 12:33 AM

There’s a strange duplicity that takes place whereby one can condemn Fox news for “bias” but praise (and quote) Media Matters for perceived fairness.

Note the difference between a right-winger and a left-winger: The right-winger, as personified here, merely spews his point of view without backing it by fact, whereas the left-winger, being myself, actually notes things specifically about Fox when taking issue with it, and thus backs his argument, whereas the right-winger decides, in the good fashion of nutjobs like Michelle Malkin, to merely babble incoherently about “MOONBATS! DEMOCRATS ARE TERRORISTS!”.

Hence why the right-wingers lost the election, because it became fairly pathetic by the end, when they were reduced, on the national stage, to a bunch of spoiled brats accusing the American public of supporting terrorism.

Keep it up, kiddies. You’re already handing us what’s left of the government for 2008, especially when you nominate some nutjob like Mitt Romney, Huckabee, Sam “Abortion is Ze Holocaust!” Brownback, Tom “Let’s nuke Mecca/Load the Mexicans into catapults” Tancredo or Newt “I screwed my intern and I’m not ashamed” Gingrich.

The plethora of nuts you have lined up for 2008 is simply astonishing.

I like the suggestion that he withdraw from the Senate.

However, I am under the impression that the Chicago Tribune went to court to force release of Jeri Ryan’s child support filings. It is news to me that she deliberately sabotaged her ex-husband’s candidacy by leaking the sex-club accusation.

Personally, I believe that Ryan should not have withdrawn. But since he did, I blame the IL Republican parthy for being morons in slating a CARPETBAGGER like Keyes instead of finding someone from inside Illinois.

But when you add the inability to get the Party’s act together back in the primaries, and their inability to get the losers to support the eventual winner in a race against a crook whom even the Chicago Dem machine can’t stand on a personal level, means that the party’s central committee should resign.

The Republican party of Illinois is a DISGRACE to Illinois — the home state of the 1st REPUBLICAN President.

Allahpundit was more than fair with Grebrook and gave him lot’s of chances. I remember Grebrook using the F-word eight time in a single post one night, totally inane, I was surprised he didn’t get the boot that night. But in a way it a shame he’s gone, I was hoping if he stayed long enough that he might eventually see the light. But he was too far gone.

Some people complain about “feeding the troll” and I’m guilty of that. But I think the trolls need to be challenged, that is not to say you shouldn’t pick your fights carefully, but when they have opened themselves up for the smack-down, you should be quick to oblige. We conservative are sometimes too passive in the debate. We allow the left to spew their lies unassailed thinking that their lunacy is self evident and no one will take it to heart. But history proves us wrong about that far too often.

The uncontested absurdities of today are the accepted slogans of tomorrow. They come to be accepted by degrees, by precedent, by implication, by erosion, by default, by dint of constant pressure on one side and constant retreat on the other – until the day when they are suddenly declared to be the country’s official ideology. ——- Ayn Rand

Maxx, thanks for the A. Rand quote. How true, how true.

Some examples:

- men being afraid of holding a door open (when I hold doors open for men and for women)
- hardly any jokes allowed any more
- can’t express true feelings on 9/11 in the office
- masculinity diminished
- multi-culti gone bonkers
- individuality gone to almost extinction
- b.s. flourishing – lack of sincerity – everything is faux

The enemy isn’t liberalism,” the late columnist, Lars-Erik Nelson, said. “The enemy isn’t conservatism. The enemy is bullshit.

Ja, Maxx, nice quote from Fountainhead Ayn, but you’re wrong about the troll: it never, never would have seen any light. Its pupils are fixed & dilated, and for him/her it was already too late a long time ago
