While I wouldn’t be surprised to see this happen at all, I doubt it will in part because of a lack of attention paid, but mainly because they’re a liberal show. But rest assured if O’Reilly made the joke, media matters and Olberman would be all riled up.

It was a joke about how people think de-Christianizing Christmas is bad for the Muslim image when that’s the least of the Muslim’s problems.

Nothing partisan, so quit trying to read the tea leaves.

What evidence do you have that the writers at SNL only make jokes like this after a Democratic victory? You’re mistaking correlation for causation.

Because the joke was about religion and terrorism, and very blunt at that. Notice they still laughed, and then they laughed harder once it hit them. To me it didn’t sound like pity applause (but honestly who are either of us to say it was), it sounded like they were clapping because the joke was funny.

You still come off sounding a bit too bitter. You’re mad because they didn’t laugh hard at the beginning? Seriously?!

You say I don’t have a point, but I’ll state it again for you:

This joke was just a joke, it wasn’t partisan, and the audience paused before laughing heartily because they felt like it. You’re reading too much into it.

People have tried to find a deeper meaning behind what SNL was doing (they purposefully waited until the Democrats were in control to signal that it’s okay to joke about Muslims).

The audience laughed at the joke, but apparently that isn’t enough for you, you wanted them to laugh at the joke immediately, and because they didn’t it shows how the left is sympathetic towards terrorism or Muslims, give me a break.

Ignore what I’m saying if it will make you feel better, seriously.

And while it wasn’t me, I agree with folks that SNL would have been reluctant to make this joke had they not had the breathing room of the Democratic victory in the elections. It wasn’t a thinking joke, if they genuinely found it funny the laughter would have begun roaring before Meyers finished saying “terrorism”. So is your argument that this lefty filled audience are a bunch of idiots? And again, most of what you heard wasn’t even the forced laughter, it was the pity applause that follow chuckles when a joke bombs.

Nonfactor, I responded to you a litle while ago, but apparently it got hung up in the spam filter. Long and short of it is you and I simply have different opinions about the audience reaction here, and I feel mine is based on history.

As for this latest comment, I suggest you do two things. Google and find that the story regarding Xmas in England is a real one, and two, read what we’re saying… We haven’t said it was a conspiracy by SNL. We simply stated the obvious that the far left audience that eats up the “jokes” (which usually aren’t even “jokes” or funny in any way, just Bush bashing that these audiences eat up) delivered by this far left show were uncomfortable laughing at a joke mocking (accurately) Islam.

Then I suggest I do one thing. Google/Yahoo your user name with hotair.com before I respond to you next time, so I don’t waste my time on a troll, simply because I was unaware that you were one.

William is right, now that the dems are somewhat in power, it’s kind of ok to see the bad guys as the bad guys. If they win in ’08, watch how the media finally turns against our enemies.

Yes, I know you don’t agree with me. You believe that a delayed laugh signifies that the liberal audience can’t take a joke at the expense of Islam (and some might say Christianity). Have you ever been to a comedy show? Delayed laughs happen all the time, not because people are uncomfortable, but because the funny part of the joke just hit them.

I’ll repeat, you don’t have to be on the right or left to understand the joke and laugh at it.

All I’ll say is that this one is completely a matter of opinion. I analyze it one way, and I find your analysis ridiculous based on the history of SNL and it’s audiences. (see all other comments above). They eat up Bush bashing, even when it’s not remotely funny. It’s like Mahar, or the Daily Show, or Letterman, or the View. Sometimes they’ll respond to the applause sign, but it’s not the roaring cheers and laughter you hear when a blow is dealt to the Bush, whether it’s funny or not. So again, this is a difference of opinion, however I feel mine is grounded in the show and the audience’s history.

We will know that they are striking home when CAIR sues them and jihadis try to kill the cast.

I don’t expect that to happen, however.

Why?

Because if anyone attacks any of the cast or crew it is highly likely, based on past news reporting behavior and observing such by experience, they will start off by indicting conservatives – those evil, nasty, violent conservatives, or Christians, or Bush, or someone else.

Frankly, it would probably be a good thing if some of the cast were murdered as a result of that little quip, because it might open the eyes of the chronic deniers, but if it did occur, instead of blaming Muslims and expressing anger, the leftists would most likely blame the comic who delivered the lines, the writers who wrote the part, and SNL itself for being disrespectful to Islam and for causing this to happen, thus giving Islam a free pass once again and putting the blame on the victims.
