Listen, he knows damn well it’ll get squashed again, he just wants to make a point (albeit tired lib point) and spook the younger voters.

AND he doesn’t want it to go through because he knows that 62% of the 18-30 yr olds voted democrat in the midterms. To have this bill pass would end that trend most ricky tick.

Military service is a good thing for many people. That being an all volunteer army. The draft is only an option when the all volunteer army runs out.

The death rate for African American men ages 20 to 34 in Philadelphia was 4.37 per 1,000 in 2002, 11 percent higher than among troops in Iraq. Slightly more than half the Philadelphia deaths were homicides.

The best part of the whole thing is Rangel taking about hypocrisy:

How can you vote against the draft, and then turn around and introduce the bill for it? Duh!

Ragnel has come up with the typical Democratic reaction to plans that we might increase troop levels in Iraq. Fight sound planning with baseless fearmongering.

The thought that this man will soon hold the pursestrings to our Iraq operational budget scares me beyond belief. Is this man cynical enough to cut all funding to Iraq, endangering thousands of soldiers’ lives? You bet your ass he is.

To clarify, I meant to say that “poor young black men” have a statistically higher chance of survival in Iraq than on American urban streets. I’ll look for some stats to back the statement up, but I know that the number of murders in most American cities exceeds the death rate in Iraq for American soldiers.

Then he could say he actually voted against the draft before he voted for it.
