Oh my God! Tom and Katie are getting married in Italy today! Who cares?

Meanwhile, people are being robbed, shot, pushed around, and jumped just for a Playstation 3. Browsing eBay, I found a Playstation 3 sold for $44,100.

Bond is back.

Mark Foley: “It’s just been a real hard time.”

Keith Olbermann makes an intentional mistake, wouldn’t be the first time.

If anybody’s reading these, just curious:

Who do you think is more of a dick: Keith Olbermann or Bill Maher?

Either one is deserved, but I gotta go with Bill Maher. Because of his ridiculous comments about 9/11, he got taken off the air, and has never forgiven the Republicans since. Since his “conversion,” I can’t believe how bad he is. Another of the many examples is the Dan Rather video recently posted on this site.

Another favorite of Maher is when he was interviewing the Georgia congresswoman who punched the security guy in Congress for wanting to check her ID (I forget her name…my memory isn’t what it used to be), and opened the interview by referring to her favorably as “slugger.”

Anybody here agree with Bush’s new chief of family planning programs that contraception is “demeaning to women”?

(Linky Link)

Constantine on November 18, 2006 at 3:05 PM

Hello Constantine. Just clicked your Linky Link. Your comment

Anybody here agree with Bush’s new chief of family planning programs that contraception is “demeaning to women”?

is misleading.

The quote should not be attributed to Keroack but, per the same MSNBC article, to the organization Keroack was affiliated with…

“A Woman’s Concern is persuaded that the crass commercialization and distribution of birth control is demeaning to women, degrading of human sexuality and adverse to human health and happiness,” the group’s Web site says.”

Either way, its not “contraception” that is “demeaning to women”. It is “crass commercialization and distribution of birth control”.

English really isn’t THAT hard of a language..

RobertCSampson on November 18, 2006 at 3:31 PM

Oh, I forgot, you don’t believe in liberal bias in the media.. and you couldn’t possibly be a mind-numbed robot pawn of said media.. Sorry for the confusion.

RobertCSampson on November 18, 2006 at 3:33 PM

*crickets

RobertCSampson on November 18, 2006 at 3:43 PM

RobertCSampson on November 18, 2006 at 3:31 PM

I agree: the quote should be attributed to A Woman’s Concern and not Keroack. However, I think Constantine was trying to bait the audience here about the issue of birth control and a potentially controversial figure in the person of Keroack. I believe these appointments are going to become more of an issue as time goes by with Bush looking for strategic opportunities to appease the new Democratic leadership to gain wins in other areas such as his immigration bill – which the former House rejected.

thedecider on November 18, 2006 at 3:44 PM

It is “crass commercialization and distribution of birth control”.

One has to assume that if Keroack is affiliated with the organization, he agrees with its mission statement. It doesn’t take a “mind-numbed robot pawn” to make that connection.

“Crass commercialization” is subjective, but “distribution”… meaning birth control is okay as long as it’s not readily available? And how is it “degrading of human sexuality and adverse to human health and happiness”?

Keroack seems to agree with the point of view that contraception should remain some sort of shameful secret. Combine this with the anti-condom guidelines in Bush’s CDC policy, which demand that any sex-ed “content” provided by AIDS-fighting organizations include information on the “lack of effectiveness of condom use.”

I want to know if conservatives agree with that policy, and if so, why.

Constantine on November 18, 2006 at 3:53 PM

LOUD NOISES!!!

x95b10 on November 18, 2006 at 3:55 PM

What do you mean “however”. Of course, he was trying to bait the audience here about the issue of birth control, etc. The point is that Constantine and the original author of the MSNBC article misquoted the website, and attributed it to Bush’s appointee in an attempt to distort the truth for political gain. I will reiterate. Nowhere did anyone say that “contraception” is “demeaning to women” with the exception of Constantine himself.

RobertCSampson on November 18, 2006 at 3:55 PM

Constantine, please stop using half of sentences to make your point. I have always made an effort when reading your posts to see your point. This time, you do not have one. You are still spinning. While I agree, it is not only likely but most probable that Keroack agrees with the mission statement of his organization, you again misstate the quote. The point is that it is “crass commercialization” that is being referred to and not “contraception”.

RobertCSampson on November 18, 2006 at 4:00 PM

I want to know if conservatives agree with that policy, and if so, why.

Constantine on November 18, 2006 at 3:53 PM

Well, THIS conservative does not support that policy. I am in favor of abstinence programs – which have some success but the success is limited. When success becomes limited, birth control becomes necessary and condoms become critical to help stop the spread of disease. But it’s true that even condoms can have limited effectiveness. In my view, these programs should be multi-faceted – offering a wide range of birth control and disease-prevention options along with educational materials.

thedecider on November 18, 2006 at 4:02 PM

As far as most conservatives view of said policy, I think most would agree that sex ed. is the responsibility of parents not a government or a school union monopolized by liberal elites who think they know best.

RobertCSampson on November 18, 2006 at 4:04 PM

RobertCSampson on November 18, 2006 at 4:04 PM

I understand your meaning. Unfortunately I feel there are too many parents who do not accept that responsibility which is why such problems exist in our nation today. I believe sexually transmitted diseases and children born to unwed mothers is definitely a family and personal issue, but it bleeds into a social and national health problem as well. For those who did not have the benefit of parents or role models to shape their behaviors, I feel the government should step in with social programs designed to create awareness around these issues and promote healthy choices.

thedecider on November 18, 2006 at 4:15 PM

If anybody’s reading these, just curious:
Who do you think is more of a dick: Keith Olbermann or Bill Maher?

When I first read this, for some reason I saw “nerd” in place of dick… I have a good answer to that question.

Maher is the bigger nerd, and Olbermann is more likely to wind up sitting on the floor of a cell in the mental ward someday (think Bruce Willis in 12 Monkeys, drool, shackles and all…).

As for being dicks… That would be a slight move forward and a promotion for either of these A-holes. IMO

Robert, I’m being honest here; I think the sentence could actually be interpreted either way. To find out for myself, I went to the web site and nowhere did I find the statement referenced in the article. So apparently I’ve been suckered into bringing up a non-issue.

Constantine on November 18, 2006 at 4:32 PM

Constantine,

I think you raise an interesting topic whether the website contains the statement or not.

What I don’t understand is why someone considers it objectionable to encourage abstinence before marriage.

mikeyboss on November 18, 2006 at 4:48 PM

YO! DannoJyd,
I thought the Six Steps to Victory had some great points. I sent the article to my Brother-In-Law, who is a War on Terror vet from Iraq. All six steps seem to be common sense to me, plus the confounded futility of dealing with a bureaucracy at any time, let alone a WAR, makes me want to scream, “LET THE BOOTS ON THE GROUND FIGHT!!! LET THEM FIGHT IN ANY WAY THAT WORKS!!!”
Sometimes I feel like Howard Dean and I want to scream, “YEEEAAAAHHHHHH!!!! BUREAUCRACIES SUCK!” All while my eyes are rolling and my toung is hanging out of my mouth.

Iraqi Gen Sada’s Message to the American People

Since this is an open thread I thought I would post this recent piece from my blog. I had the opportunity to see this Gen Sada presentation.

Here’s my review.

RBT

*****
*****UPDATE*****

Welcome Spokeman-Review Readers

[...]

No matter what your opinion is on the Iraqi war and the GWOT in general, this is a story that has largely been ignored by the Mainstream Media (MSM).

You, the reader/viewer, may have formed conclusions/opinions based on the MSM’s less than objective reporting. See this excellent Wall Street Journal article by the noted professor of public policy James Q. Wilson.

I would encourage all to read the work of Ray Robinson, Mark Eichenlaub, and Scott Malensek on the Saddam Regime Documents that were mentioned in last week’s NYT lede [Linked to in the posts below]

If you missed Dr. Terry Law and Gen Sada’s presentation, here’s a MP3 audio file from an earlier church appearance in Oxford, UK. Scroll down for the link. The presentation is similar but lacks comments on recent developments in Iraq and the NYT story.

[...]

Editor – Spokesman Review

Iraqi General Georges Sada’s Message to the American People

Iraqi General Sada spoke to a crowd of 1200 in Spokane Thursday. As an Iraqi Christian and a former Vice Air Marshal, he told of his personal experiences with Saddam. He said the Americans did a wonderful thing in liberating the Iraqi people. In time the current sectarian violence will end. It will take time for Iraqis to learn how to live in a democracy. This, Iraqis will have to do on their own.

Gen. Sada is a pilot’s pilot having trained in the US, Great Brittan and Russia. He recognized a US Air Force Colonel in the audience who was imprisoned with him during Gulf War I. Saddam put Sada in charge of the captured pilots. Sada refused to execute them as ordered by Saddam’s son and was thrown into prison.

According to Sada, Saddam had WMD as late as 2002. Saddam moved them by plane and truck to Syria under the guise of relief aid after a Syrian dam break. The NYT last week confirmed that Saddam possessed advanced nuclear weapons information and perhaps was one year away from having a nuclear bomb – the death knell of the meme Bush Lied – People Died!

Puritan1648 on November 18, 2006 at 7:25 PM

Nice job Rocket. That American Air Force pilot (Col. David Eberly) wrote the forward in Sada’s book, “Saddam’s Secrets”. It’s a great book, I couldn’t put it down.

Imagine yourself is Sada’s boots: Saddam’s other generals tell him that the Iraqi Air Force can penetrate Israeli air defenses, then he asks YOU. If you tell him the truth, that No, it can’t be done, he might just blow your head off right then and there.

The bio/chems were there, and the media ignores this book, yet they go nuts for any book that claims the opposite.

Tony737 on November 18, 2006 at 7:30 PM

I want to know if conservatives agree with that policy, and if so, why. — Constantine

…what do I care about contraception and abstinance training…I’m married. I don’t need abstinance training. There’s certainly no need for contraception.

Come to think of it, back in the old days, when great lizards ruled the Earth and I was dating, things were pretty much the same. Girls were *ALL* of ‘em getting abstinace training — at least where I was concerned — and therefore contraception was a moot point.

…get your freak on training…I was all ready for that…the big lizards were even beginning to look good….

“Heeeeeeeere, little Triceratops…want some candy?”

Puritan1648 on November 18, 2006 at 7:43 PM

Another topic and suggested reading: In the Nov issue of Maxim, there’s an article (that’s right, I read it for the articles!) written by a former Hollywood liberal name Pat Dollard. He talks about the documentary he’s filming in Iraq, embedded with U.S. Marines.

He’s become a conservative, and appreciates what we’re doing in Iraq, but now he’s been disowned by his friends, family and people in his business in Hollywood. He says we need to bring democracy, capitalism and education to the islamic world, not because we’re so nice, but to keep future generations from growing up to terrorists looking to kill Americans.

Oh my God! Somebody in Hollywood gets it!

Check him out at http://www.patdollard.com

He says “I have tape after tape of Marines telling their liberal ‘rescuers’ to F themselves.”

BSG was worst ever.

I actually really enjoyed this episode. Really made me think about why nations go to war, and how the little guy is usually a pawn in the bigger scheme of things, It also made me think about how hard it must be for military leaders to make such horribly difficult decisions that require sending soldiers to their deaths.

Many times, in a war, or even a standoff, there are no simple solutions. Should the humans have just trusted the Cylons to stay on their side of the line? Or was it right to send in a black op to see? (Reminds me a lot of the Israel-Hizbollah standoff going on right now) Either way, it could spell death to innocent people. I think Rosalin put it all in perspective in the end–it wasn’t Adama’s mistake that started the war, it was 40 years of bad blood, and many other instances of wrongdoing that (re)started it.

Okay, despite all the other topics, back to the first: playstations.
Can anyone explain why all these consumers are all in a panic over a soon to be outmoded computer-like system? Anyone willing to whine about the artificial scarcity marketing technique of the company that makes these apparently indispensible items? How about the complete inability of modern consumers, fat in flesh and pocket to wait.
And, aren’t all video games, simply the same old run and jump, just slightly fancier?
Am I missing something here? Used to wait a week in a queue for gasoline in Nigeria. It was 10 cents a gallon, but the generals would sell it in neighboring Togo for $3 a gallon, so there was usually none to be had at home, there would be brawls if some turd tried to jump the line, and occasionally someone’s hoarded fuel stock would blow up unexpectedly. Can Playstation match that kind of thrill? The queues, the fights, the tension, the wait?

Constantine said:

A. You would want your (hypothetical) daughter to practice abstinence, but your (hypothetical) son can screw around all he wants? Classy.
B. Anybody can buy condoms at the grocery store, drug store, convenience store, or Wal-Mart. Talk of “limit[ing] the availability” of condoms is therefore just fearmongering. There is no such legislative proposal anywhere.
C. “Contraceptive education” — Did you need classroom instruction on how to use a condom? No. Me neither. There are intructions on the package. Let the schools teach kids to read, and then let’s just figure the kids can read the condom package.

Radical proponents of “comprehensive sexuality education” have learned that they can achieve propaganda aims by making nonsensical accusations against their opponents. You, Constantine, appear to have succumbed to their propaganda.

No, A PS3 did not sell for $40 grand.

It’s called auction interference, someone used a hijacked or junk eBay account to screw up someone else’s sale. That won’t be paid, the bidding account has been cancelled, and it’s not that uncommon for very popular items.

If you don’t understand eBay, you might think that was a sale – it was pretty obvious fraud and I’ll bet the seller was pretty upset when they saw it, because even if they don’t have to pay the fees, they will have to re-list to sell their PS3.

As to BSG – they keep building up nicely and then letting me down. I want to like the show, but it’s starting to wear me out with all the disappointments, like Helo’s weasel reasoning for his sabotage, which came down to murdering the people he claimed to be trying to protect. And they use the word “murder” too much, speaking of that – killing an enemy combatant in combat isn’t murder. The whining is really getting on my nerves – for crying out loud, you have less than 1% of your population left, isn’t it really time to get down and dirty?

And so on… when you spend so much time picking at a show, it’s time to quit watching it.

Sci-Fi is really a desert right now.

I think he is referring to the bold text, unless you are being facetious.

I’m definitely NOT being facetious. Thanks AZ Redneck for giving some clarity.

I’ll stick to my point that some parents simply will not provide the kind of leadership in the home that children need. They will not train their children in the way they should go. So, what are the options for these kids? Where will they get education around sexually transmitted diseases and the tragedy of having kids out of wedlock? This isn’t pointed at you, AZ Redneck, it’s just a comment. I’m not saying that all government programs are necessarily the best thing going. Certainly there is huge room for improvement. But can we afford to dismiss them? Can we afford to take them away under the assumption that this type of training should be done in the home by responsible parents when it’s clear some parents simply will not, or cannot, provide this kind of leadership to their kids? It’s a point worth considering.

YO! DannoJyd,
I thought the Six Steps to Victory had some great points.

Thanks Troy. I thought so too, but I’m certainly no expert of anything military. I only excell in the realm of common sense, and I was shocked when I learned that. Blame it on political correctness making common sense so uncommon today.
