Aengus, this isn't just my opinion.

It is the opinions of former democrats like Zell Miller and Bob Just. Miller referred to the actions of Rockefeller and Durbin in that leaked October 2003 memo that described how there were going to inject politics into the war to deliberately weaken the Bush Administration with calls for congretional investigations, as if not treason, the 1st cousin to it. Miller said:

What has happened to the Party I've spent my life working in?

I can remember when Democrats believed it was the duty of America to fight for freedom over tyranny.

It was Democratic President Harry Truman who pushed the Red Army out of Iran, who came to the aid of Greece when Communists threatened to overthrow it, who stared down the Soviet blockade of West Berlin by flying in supplies and saving the city.

Time after time in our history, in the face of great danger, Democrats and Republicans worked together to ensure that freedom would not falter. But not today.

Motivated more by partisan politics than by national security, today's Democratic leaders see America as an occupier, not a liberator.

In his book A National Party No More: The Conscience of a Conservative Democrat, Miller takes his party to task for the many of the same reasons that Bob Just does: the "gotcha's" the leaks, the spin doctors and the extremist positions that are the hallmark of the modern Democratic Party, not the party of Truman and FDR.

Bob Just wrote an article back in 2000 titled Fascism, corruption and my 'Democratic' Party, where he describes how the party he grew up in became fixated on winning at ANY cost, to the detriment of patriotism and fair play.

For example, he describes a plot by two Democratic activists who hired a prostitute to claim that a Republican office holder raped her, in an attempt to knock him out of the race for all intents and purposes.

He describes how the New York State Democratic Party, in their 2000 state convention, spit on the flag and called the Albany police color guard "Nazis."

He writes:

When I read about people spitting on the Honor Guard at the New York State Democratic Convention May 16, I started to understand what has happened to my party over the last few years. I still can't get over the fact that Democrats attending a formal convention would so insult the American flag, but it happened. As an Honor Guard of Albany police officers entered the convention hall - with band playing and lights shining - they were spit on and called "Nazis" by a number of people on the delegate floor. On top of that, no Democrat nearby stopped the "spitters," or even reported them. And the Democratic leadership expressed no public outrage.

I was so outraged at my party's lack of outrage that I started a reward fund to find the "spitters." But I soon realized that I needed to address the larger issue of what I had come to understand. I direct this commentary to the mainstream elected officials of my party - the "adults" as the media often calls them. Whether you are still in office or retired, you can have a profound effect in waking up the party and the public. I see clearly now that the path the party is taking will eventually lead to its destruction and to the destruction of liberty in America. It is practically mathematical. And it won't take very long in years if nothing is done to stop it.

And he added:

...I am ashamed to be a Democrat. More than that, I have come to fear my own party. Hatred and corruption - the roots of fascism - are on the march in America as they have never been before, and leading this march is the Democratic Party.

and

What we are dealing with here has nothing to do with American politics. In fact, I worry that as the Democrats increasingly adopt fascist tactics they will cease being a genuine political party, focused on honest debate and decision by fair ballot. They could become one day something more related to the fascists of 1930s Germany. The SA "brown shirts" were not interested in debate and civil rule; they wanted power in order to force the democratic nation to accept their Nazi agenda. If I am right about the fanatical direction my party is taking, then America has never faced a danger like this, and real Democrats who stand by and watch will be as guilty before history as the actual leaders of this corruption movement....

...Carried to its extreme, this corruption movement will destroy us all. It is compulsive in its lust for power. It is an anti-establishment lobby that is vast and very powerful. Right now the specific labels don't matter, and there are too many to name here, from corporate greed to union greed to organized crime to "special interest" causes. It is a long list. However, the core desire of this group, conscious or unconscious, is to tear down everything traditional and decent in this country. Full of personal anger and a desire for radical change at whatever cost, these people wish to "re-imagine" an America they have never understood.

The Party uber alles
Fueled by anger, the New Fascists have completely adopted the radical '60s notion of the "honest con." In other words, they think that because they are "correct in their beliefs" and because in their minds what they fight is so "evil," just about any act can be committed for the sake of victory - and certainly, lying is no problem. Loyalty to "the cause" is at the heart of this mindset.

Subsiquent to this article being written, at the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles, on the Thursday that Gore was to make his acceptance speech, a group of Eagle Scouts were asked to participate in the color guard -- and THEY WERE BOO-ED OFF THE STAGE by the delegates.

In the 2004 election, Michelle amply documents the VIOLENT behavior of Democratic activists in her book "Unhinged."

It got so bad in 2004, that Democrat activists were firing guns into Republican offices, and were also staging take-over invasions by Union members, and breaking in and stealing the Republican desktop computers.

The SON of a DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSMAN slashed the tires of a Republican party leased vehicle

Aengus, when they ACT LIKE BROWNSHIRT NAZIS, I am going to call them Brownshirt Nazis. It is NOT "demonization" when it is true!

We have just lived through an election where the party that won did so throught outright lies (both their own and those of their media allies) desigend to sabotage the war, and you think that calling them on their tactics and labeling them as what they are is unfair?

Their treatment of Lieberman, including photoshopping his picture into a charature of a man in "blackface", their treatment of Michael Steele (also photoshopped) by calling him an OREO, and the words of their "leaders" (for example, Cindy Sheehan) blaming America's participation in the war on terrorism as some kind of ZIONIST Jewish plot, was exactly the kind of tactics that the 1933 Brownshirts did to grab and maintain power.

So, the shoe fits. They are the "brownshirt party" not because of demonizaton, but because of their behavior.

I think we've stumbled across a great new party game: name the affiliation of newsworthy sociopaths.

The fact of the matter is that there will always be homicidal nuts. The difference is that responsible western thinkers (liberal and conservative alike) will always denounce the crazies when they purport to act for a particular cause that resembles their own. Where are the responsible Muslims?

I'd spit on McVeigh's grave if I had the chance. Are there any Muslims that would do the same to their lunatics?

The real issue here is how the “brownshirt party” demonizes its enemies through the use of the Big Lie.

georgej,

I don't want to be a spoilsport but couldn't referring to Democrats as brownshirts be interpreted as a form of demonization? I mean Al Gore upset conservatives with his "digital brownshirts" comment.

Maxx,

The Democrats and their media used the Oklahoma City bombing to demonize conservatives through false association. The whole "angry white man" campaign was a by-product of that event.

These are the same people who are loathe to make associations about the "kinds of people" responsible for 9/11.

I'll be brief, since the internet connection here at the compound (where I await ATF agents to shoot) is a bit spotty. It's those damn feds and their diabolical wire cutters!

I miss honora.

Liberal, yes. But he/she at least could present reasoned positions and reality-based responses. There is something about sweeping generalizations, hyperbole and an inability to stick to a single point of debate that makes me question the poster's intellect.

Grebrook, I'm looking in your general direction.

Why do you bother trying to "debate" with Grebrook, the troll?

He just highjacked THIS thread the way he usually does. And he did it with a lie, the way he usually does.

And some of you fell for it.

Again, everyone gets it except the troll. Again the troll Grebrook lies and distorts and makes a complete ass of itself. Again, the only purpose the troll has is to sabotage any worthwhile debate.

please, DO NOT FEED THE TROLL.

Words of wisdom from Janos Hunyadi on November 18, 2006 at 9:58 PM. Well said, Janos.

The real issue here is how the "brownshirt party" demonizes its enemies through the use of the Big Lie. This episode (the attempt to poison the USSC, the armed forces Chief's of Staff, and the Director of the FBI and his deputy) was, as pointed out, thoroughly investigated and the guilty party had no connection with Coulter, whatsoever.

Yet, it doesn't stop the brownshirts from inventing a charge up out of whole cloth. After all, the meme that the Democrats are trying to create is that conservatives, who dare to speak out, are co-conspirators with attempted murderers and terrorists.

They truth is that the only actual instances of political terrorism in the last 2 and half years were instigated by DEMOCRATS, not Republicans.

This type of posting won't be the last. It is what the "brownshirt party" does best, after all.

"Members and front organizations must continually embarrass, discredit and degrade our critics. When obstructionists become too irritating, label them as fascist, or Nazi or anti-Semitic .... The association will, after enough repetition, become "fact" in the public mind."

Didn’t Clinton blame Rush Limbaugh for the Oklahoma City bombing?

Perchant on November 18, 2006 at 9:52 PM

Not sure about that, but Tom Daschle accused Limbaugh of trying to kill him..... in so many words. Of course, poor Tom isn't with us anymore, at least not as Senate Majority Leader.

Seems to me it's always Democrat types like the unibomber and Oswald who kill for political reasons.

I read up on the woman. Nowhere does it identify her political leanings.

Just a guess, here: SCotUS, military Chiefs of Staff...could she maybe be...a liberal?

And we’re the ones who are “unhinged”?

Yes, Grebrook, you are the ones...

You guys just don't get it. Even if this loony had sent these cookies back during the Carter administration and they just got lost in the mail for a few decades, it'd still be Coulter's fault. Or Michelle's. Or Karl Rove's. Take your pick, because it doesn't really matter. Some hateful conservative is to blame.

Besides Grebrook,

From the sentencing memorandum I see that Ms. March spent much of the past twenty years in prison and has previously engaged in bizarre, violent behavior.

Ms. March sounds much more like a Democrat to me.

...anyone check on Hinckley's voter registration and political contributions pre-1981? What difference does it make? He's a loon.

...anyone check on Oswald's voter registration and political contributions pre-1963 (if any)? What difference does it make? He was a loon.

...anyone check on "Squeaky" Fromme's voter registration and political contributions pre-Manson? Sara Jane Moore's? What difference does it make? More loons.

...and Leon Czołgosz was a Lefty and John Wilkes Booth was probably a Democrat.

See a pattern here? Loons.

The Left will do *ANYTHING* to neutralize opposing speech, particularly when it's clever...because, as a class of people, they have no discernable sense of either proportion or of humor...with a few recent exceptions here.

Grebrook, were you "educated" in the public schools? Are you the “little Johnny” that can’t read? I know you enjoy getting hat-tipped so often with you lunacy, but come on, if you really want us to engage you, you’ve got to make your arguments at least somewhat plausible. Why don’t you try again ?

Well this is the same liberal logic the NAACP used when it ran that ad that blamed Bush for the dragging death of James Byrd Jr. because Bush failed to support a hate crime law that was created after Byrd was murdered.

Yep! I stated on another thread that I refuse to engage him anymore. As soon as you nail him on the "point" he tried to make, he changes the focus and moves to a different point. I think Puritan said it best: "...you can't argue with a brick wall". As for adding "nothing to the debate", at least ignoramuses like him help solidify WHY we believe WHAT we believe.
