I say it’s not the same guy. Reader Eugene F. sends this animated GIF and says dude. Duuude.
Bob Owens decided to settle the matter by asking a certified forensic photographer. Verdict?
Fish don’t fry in the kitchen, beans don’t burn on the grill, and hair don’t grow on that soul patch area.
Always trust in Allah.

Either way…he’s still basically a douche. I don’t think one scenario is going to make him more or less of an “out to get Israel, destroy the west, Praise Allah” kind of guy. Where’s Gil Grisham when you need him…fiction needs to cross into reality for these such occassions.
StoutRepublican on November 16, 2006 at 2:59 PM
The guy on the wall looks too old, but maybe he’s just haggard from a couple weeks of raging.
If Mahmoud wasn’t at the embassy in 1979, I’ll bet he wishes he had been and tells his friends he was – kinda like the 10,000,000 hippies who claim to have been at Woodstock.

Teen Wolf?

I don’t know.
All crazed, blood-thirsty, murderous Jihadists look the same to me.
irishsquid on November 16, 2006 at 3:14 PM
Eh, if you are too young to appreciate Allahpundits little metaphore, maybe this victory dance will explain his attitude better and more sucinctly.
EFG on November 16, 2006 at 3:14 PM
I think this guy hates Israel and West the same way conservatives hate gays and abortion. They both talk a good game to fire up their base, but deep down they know Israel isn’t going anywhere and neither are gays.
Does he really want to destroy Israel? Maybe, in his dark fantasies, but if you think he doesn’t play politics and choose his statements carefully based on his audience you are pretty naive. How stupid do you think he is? I don’t think he’s stupid enough to give Israel an excuse to nuke him to hell. He may be able to develop a crude bomb and destroy Tel Aviv, but I think he know’s the response would so incredible his country would cease to exsist. Every politician’s main goal is to stay in power and if you have no country to run, you have no power.

This looks like his class photo for the Tehran North High School yearbook.
Mahmoud Ahmadinnerjacket, 17, Senior
Clubs: Math Club, Marching Band, Young Jihadists, Twelth Imam Welcoming Committee, JV Stoning Team
Voted: Most Likely to Wipe the Stinking Jews Off the Map

I’m learning toward Allah’s take. In the 1979 photo, the guy looks to be about in his 30s, and Mahmoud was younger then.
One way to tell is if you could get a measure on the height of the guy in the 1979 shot.
Mahmoud is quite the pipsqueak, about 5-1 or so.
JammieWearingFool on November 16, 2006 at 3:20 PM
conservatives hate gays?!? What’s up with that?
jdpaz on November 16, 2006 at 3:25 PM
So it IS his Mother. Actually, what I really want to know is: Could it be Osama?
bloggless on November 16, 2006 at 3:26 PM
Not convinced. I’m not an expert, of course, but I tested the old photo by passing it through a couple of filters in an attempt to see if the beard density on the below the lip really was as dense as it first appeared as opposed to simply appearing dense due to shadow. Results here. Now, obviously this is nowhere near anything that could be considered potentially approaching scientific, but in these alternative views, the area around the lower lip appears to be significantly less dense than it first appears.
jasnell on November 16, 2006 at 3:36 PM
You’re both right… I don’t think it’s him either… but after looking at that animated GIF… Duuude.
Again, I agree with you on this one Allah, but I believe the other pictures we’ve seen in the past are Ahmadinejad.
Further, again before I take heat I don’t think this one is him, I think the soul patch is a flawed argument. I have a goatee and mustache (not the full beard), but I have a “line” (for lack of a better word) coming up from the goatee area (vs. just a soul patch). But to keep that “line” I shave on the sides of the soul patch area because I think it looks better. Is it so hard to believe Ahmadinejad feels the same way?

I’m sayin’…

Is this good news from Omar?
Let’s go get the Maqtard.

I’m willing to buy that they are not the same man, but their eyes… I’d find it hard to believe that they’re not at least related somehow.
Esthier on November 16, 2006 at 3:44 PM
After looking a second time, I do not believe it is the same guy. What convinced me is looking at the gif animation and then the other photos. Look how freaking big Admin…Adminiha..what’s his name ears are, they are Dumbo sized compared to the guy leaning on the wall
vcferlita on November 16, 2006 at 3:45 PM
I got it!!!!!
Pelosi before she was face waxed and got her daily botox treatment.
BobK on November 16, 2006 at 3:48 PM
I was wondering about that, if it were simply possible that Ahmadinejad just shaves that area but that (if it were him in the other picture) couldn’t during the time period he grew that large beard.
Or, is it obvious if a man shaves that part?
Esthier on November 16, 2006 at 3:48 PM
I think I see what you’re saying. With a beard as thick as that one is, it makes sense that the hair could grow over the bald patches making them appear whole.
Esthier on November 16, 2006 at 3:50 PM
1. Conservatives don’t hate gays. In fact, many conservatives are gay.
2. For those against abortion, the hate there is 100% real and is the motivation behind electing a man who will put construtionists on the Supreme Court instead of activists.
You know, that’s what people said about Hitler too.
Esthier on November 16, 2006 at 3:55 PM
The nose is diferent too.
infidel4life on November 16, 2006 at 3:58 PM
But what about the guy in this pic?
infidel4life on November 16, 2006 at 4:03 PM
This evidence seems to support that they are the same guy. There does appear to be some skin visible on the big beard guy where you’d expect it to be after the thin strip of hair just below the lip grew down to cover most of that bare area.
Perchant on November 16, 2006 at 4:13 PM
Nip. Tuck.
honora on November 16, 2006 at 4:17 PM
My cousin is married to a man who was a Marine Embassy guard when he and the other hostages were taken. He swears this guy was was a bigger part of his 444 days in Hell than anyone in the western media will even DARE to utter. Makes him furious.
seejanemom on November 16, 2006 at 4:21 PM
Looks like him to me. Just look at that honker – it’s a dead ringer.
Either that, or it’s Tony Shaloub.

Ya seen one Persian Hairy Midget Nazi you seen ‘em all.
WriterMom on November 16, 2006 at 4:45 PM
All I know is, he’s a bad Muslim. And the only good Muslims are dead Muslims. Lets make him a good Muslim.
stonemeister on November 16, 2006 at 4:46 PM
…or much of anywhere else with any success. This guy’s been S.O.L. in the beard department for quite some time. He looks today like a chimp who’s been incompletely shaved.
Puritan1648 on November 16, 2006 at 4:48 PM
Is somebody trying to say, “They all look alike”?
Ali-Bubba on November 16, 2006 at 4:56 PM
The lighting in the recent photograph makes his nose like identical to the Embassy dude. If you look at the younger picture of Mahmoud, his nose is thinner than the Embassy dude.
I’m siding with Allah. They are not one in the same.
Also, I appreciate the comment about shaving around the Soul Patch area hence the reason they don’t match. But, look at that weak-a$$ moustache he has on his upper lip in the young Mahmoud photo. It’s scraggly to say the least. Hence the reason he didn’t shave around his soul patch. He couldn’t grow hair there.
natesnake on November 16, 2006 at 4:58 PM
Glad someone agrees and sees what I do… And no it’s not that obvious, if they either shave it closely, or you aren’t looking at them in person or at least an extremely high resolution photograph. Again, I’m in the camp that says this isn’t him, but the soul patch area hair is not even close to a smoking gun in my mind. A more logical case I would say is because the man in the 1979 photo appears to be a lot older than 23.
RightWinged on November 16, 2006 at 5:02 PM
You’re a racist for even jokingly asking that question! Now leave me and my Democrat pals to make blackface photoshops of black Republicans or Democrats who don’t toe the line… or Wolf Blitzer.
RightWinged on November 16, 2006 at 5:03 PM
What I’d like to know is, “WHO CARES?!” Ahmadinejad is the President, or whatever, of Iran NOW and that is all that matters.
Troy Rasmussen on November 16, 2006 at 5:33 PM
Uh… If you look at a picture of me from 1979 and compare it to now, you’re going to see a whole lot more hair on top of my head than there is now. In my case, the beard still grows as thickly as it did then (although the color of the hair has changed) but who is to say that Male Pattern Baldness can’t strike the chin as well as the top of the head?
The Monster on November 16, 2006 at 6:03 PM
Hmmm… Alexander Jason eh? Maybe it’s Jason Alexander that did the photo comparison, in which case Allah is doing a victory dance on George Costanza’s say so.
RW_theoriginal on November 16, 2006 at 6:56 PM
Or the lesser known Jason Alexander, Britney’s first husband in that marriage that lasted 55 hours.
Anyway, in memory of Costanza – “Moops!”
RightWinged on November 16, 2006 at 8:08 PM
Sisu’s pic nails Ahmadinejad – they look like the same guy. This guy looks different; it doesn’t look like the other pic OR the current-day Ahmadinejad.
In any case it’s moot if several guys ID’d him at the scene. Maybe BOTH guys were involved in the embassy action -
RD on November 16, 2006 at 11:45 PM
Er – buy “guy”, I mean, several Americans ID’d Ahmadinejad at the scene… and perhaps *both* bearded men were involved in taking the embassy.
RD on November 16, 2006 at 11:48 PM
Sorry again – by “this guy looks different”, I mean the “take 1″ guy, standing in front of all those bricks. Take two & sisu’s pic look like the same mensch.
RD on November 17, 2006 at 12:05 AM
Taking into account the hair growth pattern argument, I’ll have to change my opinion. I thought it was him, but now I think it isn’t. A relative maybe? The resemblance is impressive.
