The basic concepts of standing up for the national interests of the United States, supporting Israel, and advocating UN reform (if that is possible – I have my doubts) are very admirable. Bolton does indeed appear to be the right person for the job.

I’d like to out myself as a 25 year old with a B.F.A. in drama

JadeNYU, I applaud your bravery! Not for “outing” yourself in this crowd, but for being a conservative even after four years of liberal-arts-faculty brainwashing.

I have an old friend in a distant city who is a writer. When I visit him I am surrounded by a really interesting collection of writers, musicians, theater people, and even a few professional ballerinas. Great folks, but I have to be very careful about what I say around them — they go into a wierd liberal-zombie attack mode if I even hint at the dark, awful truth that I am — you know — one of those people. A conservative. Patriot-act enemy of the First Ammendment and all that.

With all that Bolton has accomplished, I guess this is a good chance to see if the Democrats are really serious about doing what is right in a bipartisan fashion, or whether it was all smoke and mirrors to trick their voters into voting for them.

Also, most people seem to agree that, if he can’t get senate approval, we want Bush to recess appoint him (again). In this case, he will not be getting a salary. We don’t care, we say, we’ll cover his salary with donations.

What I haven’t seen is:

1) Any research as to whether or not Bolton can accept private money as his salary while he’s a government employee.

2) Any indication that Mr. Bolton is interested in doing the job for free (or for whatever money can be privately raised for him).

3) Anyone actually taking any steps to set up some form of donation collection for John Bolton (which, I’m assuming, should be started sooner, rather than later, unless his salary is closer to minimum wage than I think it is).

Now, before anyone gets smart and asks me why I’m not doing any of the things I’ve mentioned, I’d like to out myself as a 25 year old with a B.F.A. in drama. Research isn’t my thing and neither is setting up accounts/campaigns for donations (I don’t even balance my checkbook).

Surely there has to be someone out there with experience regarding this sort of thing that can start taking the necessary steps. I’m ready with my checkbook as soon as a (legitimate) “Donate for Bolton” site goes up.

I’m in. You can count on me to donate all I can afford to pay Bolton’s salary if President Bush has the (gum)balls to do another Recess Appointment of Bolton.
