Of course the IAEA was totally shocked at this discovery. You mean Iran is not implementing the recomendations of the EU and the UN? Shocking, truly shocking. Next up for the IAEA is total surprise at the excelarated pace of the N. Koreans nuke program. But then the IAEA is still in denial over the Russians claims to have nukes.........

In todays PC world we will have to wait until the mushroom cloud is looming over a U.S. city before we will take action...but as one poster already correctly put it the left and the rest of the world will just blame Bush...

E.L., you swore off commenting? Why? You're good at it! Keep it up. And you're right, they seem to've forgotten who INVENTED the nuke...

Carlos: "MY people INVENTED the nuclear bomb! And we ALREADY used it! TWICE! 'Cause that's how we play, bitch!"

Bush needs to just order up some B-2s and get it over with. Take out the mullahs and their nukes, let the people (who're pro-Western) rebuild their country and become our allies. Then it's on to Syria.

Our grandchildren will thank us for it. If we don't do anything, we may be someday debating over how they were able to sneak a radiological device or even a nuke into the country (through the southern border) and destroy an American city. Maybe if that city is San Fran the left will finally get mad enough to fight back.

Nah, they'll just blame Bush.

ARRUGH!! Ok, I swore off commenting, but I'm not sure I can live with it... so here goes...

Frankly, I’m getting tired of all of these <strike>balls </strike>little <strike>balls</strike> countries giving us <strike>balls</strike> trouble. They seem to of forgotten who not only made the first atomic bomb, but who is the only country to of ever used it in war.

I’m thinking all of these little ignorant <strike>balls</strike> need a 50 megaton reminder, starting with Iran’s nuclear facilities… and ending with the areas in Pakistan where we think Osama is hiding.

I think I was the commenter Allah refered to from the previous post.

I haven't been able to get tuesday's IAEA report yet (it isn't yet on their website), but this could be referring to the HEU found earlier this year. We'll have to see.

As I said previously, the 5MW research reactor in Iran that we (the USA) built for them in 1967 used weapon's grade HEU fuel until it was reconfigured to use LEU fuel in the mid 1980's. The first batch of used fuel for that reactor was, as far as I've been able to tell, never returned to the USA because of the revolution. During the Iran-Iraq war, Iraq was attacking Tehran with airstrikes and SCUDS and the Iranians moved this spent fuel to prevent a nuclear accident. The contamination, at least the HEU contamination, was most like from this batch of used fuel (which can no longer be used for weapons, btw).

The plutonium contamination is something new and is a cause for concern. The PU contamination could be from the same spent reactor fuel, although HEU fuel does not have a lot of U-238 available to convert to plutonium. For those who may not know, plutonium is made from uranium-238 inside reactors.

Whatever the case, chemical tests of the contamination will probably reveal the source and how the contamination occured. We'll know the truth when the results are eventually released.

Just one quibble in the post. Bushehr, once it becomes operational, will not be a source of plutonium for weapons. Although plutonium is created in all nuclear reactors, high quality uncontaminated plutonium for weapons is ideally make in a heavy-water reactor and by using specific procedures to make the material. Extracting plutonium from a LWR like Bushehr, while not completely impossible, is sufficiently difficult that the Iranians don't have the technical expertise to do it alone. In addition, it would be pretty much impossible to do covertly.

Arak is really a reactor, once completely, that would give the Iranians a real plutonium production capability. So far, no reprocessing facility has been identified in Iran, which is a required component in any plutonium weapon program.

It may have been a Cold War, but there were plenty of Hot skirmishes in which many brave Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen were killed.

I'm one of those that include Korea and Vietnam as part of the Cold War. Heck, you might even make an argument that Desert Storm was the last battle of the Cold War. US-Alliance vs. Soviet-trained and equipped Iraq, in a battle for arena superiority.

(Although... the ChiComs are still REDS...)

The Cold War is not a misnomer. It may have been virtually bloodless, but never think for a moment that the fate of the world at the time did not hang in the balance, dependent upon the U.S. to show it's willingness to employ ALL FORCE NECESSARY to counter communist imperialism.

How cute that today, the progeny of those communists in our intelligentsia refer to the U.S. as imperialistic. I always have to ask, which country that we have defeated did we subsume under U.S. rule? /tangent

It was war, but because any openly hostile conflict was feared to result in a nuclear exchange, it was a war of non-hostilities.

Over 60 years ago when our leaders had balls, Oppenheimer built the bomb and Truman gave the orders to drop the damn thing on an enemy who had no nukes, nor any near term plans to build them and drop them in our backyard. All Japan had left was a weakened military and civilian population determined to fight to the last man, woman or child - with planes, tanks, guns, bayonets and kamakazis, none of which threatened our homeland.

Today we have an enemy who has a nationally mandated program to build <strike>reactors</strike> nukes and has promised to use them in the name of Allah, yet we twiddle our thumbs in the face of Armegeddon.

Those who don't learn from history ...........

You know the rest.

Three final points.

- Those bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved millions of lives - Japanese and American.

- The war ended and Japan surrendered.

- Today, Japan and her people are both friend and ally, and live in a thriving democracy.

No one would have thought that possible 60 years ago.

Exactly, if it were up to them, the spies McCarthy outed (not Hollywood people as the movies protray McCarthism) would have stayed in positions as close to the president as Rove is to Bush.

I guess I've only shied of considering it WW III because it didn't seem like a world war. Though, the USSR certainly built up an empire of its own.

Bush planted the plutonium.. wake up neocons.

Actually, I believe it came from Karl Rove's plutonium machine, which I believe he keeps next to his weather generator. I could be wrong, though.

Why, is the Cold War considered WW III?

I see it that way. Probably because we actually won it. Not that the dims or the MSM were any help.

Puritan... think Circle Jerk and you'll get the right mental image....

As to WWIII... or IV... or XII or whatever....

The seeds were planted in 1979, and they'be been building the power base through Madrasas since then... an entire generation.

But you can't have a real war without a declaration of War, somthing this political climate can't, or won't, allow.

I want my Cowboy President back!

If this follows pattern, we need at least 10 more years of inspections and 20 UN resolutions before we can even threaten to warn them to stop.

Something tells me the Israelis aren't going to wai that long. If Bush continues to fiddle, they will do what is necessary to deprive Ahmedinijihad of his nuclear arsenal.

They have no other choice, really.

Why have to work so hard on it? All we have to do is let Dennis Kucinich establish his Department of Peace, and everything will be fixed and better than peachy-keen. It will "augment our current problem-solving modalities, providing practical, nonviolent solutions to the problems of domestic and international conflict..."

Ooooo, augmented modalities.

...where'd they find it? In their *TEA*?

The IAEA couldn't find the butts with both hands...

...er..butt with their hands...butts with all their hands...do they have one collective butt? How do you frame this metaphor when you're talking about multiple people, each with a butt and hands (presumably)?

...OK...they couldn't find their p*ckers with a flashlight...er...flashlights...p*cker with flashlights...aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!
