Plus Rove, which at this point is almost a bonus.
I like this comment left at the Blotter:
Nancy Pelosi stated she was going to “drain the swamp” I have news for her. When you start draining the water, you are going to find things in the mud that you thought were long discarded.
Oh man. This + Murtha as leader = best. majority. ever.
Place your bets — who are the six to eight? Reid is a given.
Update: This is no way to run a clean hands campaign says WaPo to Pelosi.
Update: Slublog comes through with a blast from Pelosi’s very recent past:
It is long past time for the Republican Congress to take the necessary steps to restore a high ethical standard in Congress and put the Ethics Committee back to work to investigate any misconduct of Members, including those involved with Jack Abramoff. The American people deserve nothing less.
Update: Which Democratic senator has received more of Abramoff’s largesse than any other? Guess.
Update: All of Rob Port’s chips are on Byron Dorgan.
Update: There’s no doubt Reid’s one of the lucky six (or eight), says Captain Ed. And he’s got a laundry list of reasons why he thinks so.

Of course this doesn’t become known until AFTER the election.
Go figure.

Allahpundit on November 14, 2006 at 9:24 PM
Quick, who said this?
“It is long past time for the Republican Congress to take the necessary steps to restore a high ethical standard in Congress and put the Ethics Committee back to work to investigate any misconduct of Members, including those involved with Jack Abramoff. The American people deserve nothing less.”
This is going to be a fun two years.
Slublog on November 14, 2006 at 9:26 PM
Aside from Reid, I’ll take the Kleagle, Kennedy, and (crossing fingers) Feinstein.
Mark V. on November 14, 2006 at 9:30 PM
Slub, nice find. I also remember Hill saying something along those lines as well. Been looking but can’t find it though. Wish I had Lexis-Nexis.

Oh Lexis is soooo nice, I used to have access.
And Feintstein? Do. You. Know. The party I would have over that? She is as entrenched as the faces on Easter Island.
Theworldisnotenough on November 14, 2006 at 9:36 PM
That was just a google search. I’m hitting up Lexis-Nexis right now.
Already hitting gold. From the September 16, 2006 Washington Post:
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said it “confirms what we have long said: The Republican culture of corruption has pervaded Congress.”
Slublog on November 14, 2006 at 9:37 PM
Geez, Boxer, Waxman too? I’d buy you a 5th of good Kentucky bourbon, World, if that happened.

Nancy Pelosi, November 4, 2006:
“The Republican leadership has allowed Bob Ney to receive his paycheck and benefits for seven weeks after his admission of guilt to criminal conspiracy charges — it is an embarrassment to this institution and an insult to the American taxpayer. House Republican leaders have a long pattern of covering up and protecting Republican Members, and their culture of corruption comes at great cost to the American people. Mr. Ney is the fourth senior Republican to have resigned amid scandal in the 109th Congress. Democrats have a New Direction that would bring integrity and civility back to the U.S. House of Representatives.”
Slublog on November 14, 2006 at 9:41 PM
Feinstein has her own money machines, mostly outsourced, she would never have needed Abramoff. That said, it would be nice, huh? Now Boxer, she never met a shady deal she didn’t like.
A dream ticket for Abramoff’s outing list:
Clinton
Reid
Dean
Boxer
Biden
Byrd
Durbin
Mikulski
Wow, it’s hard to leave out Schumer, Sarbanes, Rockefeller and Pryor.
Patty Murray and Mary Landrieu get a pass, Kerry and Kennedy get a “who cares”. Massachusetts would vote for those two if they were behind bars.
Freelancer on November 14, 2006 at 9:43 PM
Nancy Pelosi, September 29, 2006
“For months, White House officials have refused to be straight with the American people about Jack Abramoff. Now we know the truth: a disgraced lobbyist traded perks and campaign contributions for special access to the Bush White House.
“The American people deserve better. The Republican culture of corruption is so entrenched in Washington that the Republicans cannot bring themselves to pass lobby reform legislation even in the face of these extraordinary scandals. It’s clearly time for a new direction to restore integrity to Congress.”
Slublog on November 14, 2006 at 9:43 PM
Whoops. Forgot the link on that last one.
Nancy really should have kept her mouth shut.
Slublog on November 14, 2006 at 9:45 PM
Ohhhh, Kennedy. Has to be Kennedy.
Maybe Kennedy will take Kerry with him.
Leahy, too. And Reid. And Durbin.
Schumer? Oh, please God, I’ve been good.
Jefferson is a given. We don’t need Abramoff to do him in.
And McCain - nip that sucker in the bud. There is something…. wrong …with that boy. Ah, oops, not a dhimmicrat. At least, not in name…
Boxer? Nah, she is just all hippy-dippy (Global!)
It will be interesting.

from Newsbusters: Story by NBC’s Lisa Myers on Murtha…
“Myers concluded with Murtha’s “Swift Boat” defense: “Murtha has repeatedly denied wrongdoing and says these charges amount to Swift-Boating, the same kind of unfair charges that helped defeat John Kerry. Murtha also now supports ethics reform.”
LOL… Sound familiar? I can hear Murtha now, “I voted for ethics reform before I voted against it”.
BacaDog on November 14, 2006 at 9:47 PM
HA! This from the party that allowed Murtha to say on, and Kennedy (drunken! murderer!) and Studds (with a standing O even).
I second, third and fourth that - it is going to be a fun two years… as long as no truly dangerous legislation gets passed.

I’d be excited if a Democrat was ever punished for corruption or anything for that matter, from Clinton to Berger to Jefferson to Reid, nothing is ever done.
As a matter fo fact, stories like this just showcase the Dems teflon coating, and tick me off even more.
Nothing will happen to any of them.

My liberal friends like to point out that there are a lot more republicans on the Abramoff list than democrats. To this I say, “Why the hell would you lobby more of the party in the minority? That’s not going to get a lobbyist very far.” After all, they are paid to get things done!
Seems like common sense to me.
Troy Rasmussen on November 14, 2006 at 11:13 PM
I noticed Clinton (D-NY) and Murtha (D-PA) weren’t on the list. That doesn’t mean they didn’t take money. It means they didn’t report taking money.
Anyway, the money that most of the people on the list reported is chump change. I’m wondering not just who, but how much.
Some of the names at the top of the list make sense (e.g., Hastert & Reid). Sadly, Congress is a pay-to-play system and there’s no reason to put second-stringers on the payroll.
Some of the names are curious. Rangel? Patrick Kennedy (what is he chairman of or what Indian tribes are in Rhode Island?)? Bob Smith? Really, this is just influence peddling.
My guess as to what will happen: WaPo & NYT find a way to make that evil bastard Rove look like he’s on a witch hunt to take down the saintly grandma-ma Pelosi and avuncular Harry Reid. Afterall, when Randy Cunningham makes nearly $1 million dollars in a shady land deal, it’s a crime. When Harry Reid makes more than that (with a serious conflict of interest), it’s just that he was a little sloppy.

Howard Dean: “This is a Republican scandal.”
Alex K on November 15, 2006 at 1:07 AM
Boys and girls, this news is even better than it sounds! It means that THE REPUBLICANS WILL PROBABLY REGAIN CONTROL OF THE SENATE before 2008!
6 to 8 DEMOCRATS are going bye-bye. Their seats will be vacant.
All it takes is for ONE of those states to have a Republican governor who appoints a REPUBLICAN and the Senate belongs to them. TWO republican govs and the shift is 51-47, Republican with 2 independents who’d vote Democrats.
If Lieberman switches party, then it becomes 52-47-1.
IF Boxer goes down, then Ahnold can give us back the Senate. If it’s Reid, then Gov. Gibbons can give it back.
And if Durbin — the majority whip — goes to the Greybar Hotel (I hope, I hope, I hope) then even though Blagojevich is a Democrat and will no doubt appoint another Democrat, a prominent gun hater and the guy who called our troops Nazi death camp guards will be out of office. And that’s sweet justice for those of us who have family in the service.
Oh, PLEASE let this not be a dream or a fantasy. Please let it be true!!
georgej on November 15, 2006 at 1:49 AM
I forgot about Dorgon. He’s from North Dakota and the governor is John Hoeven — A REPUBLICAN.
It has been mentioned many times how Abramoff hurt the Republicans in this past election. Now, it seems as if it will hurt the Democrats even more.
How sweet it is….If it’s true.
georgej on November 15, 2006 at 2:37 AM
I’ll believe it when I see it!
Until then, I expect the same old double standard - Conservatives, whether guilty or not, will be run through the mill by the Democrats, the media, Hollywood, and television, while Democrats can go out and rape children and get standing ovations and higher positions of authority, can rip people off and get away with it, and can lie to the US citizenry, and rape and assault woman, and get praised for being a great president.
They can lie about not knowing where law records are in a court case then suddenly “discover” those records in the White House after the court case is over.
They can lie, cheat, steal, and on and on, and nothing touches them.
They can engage in blatant racism, using the “N” word on national television, have a history of recruiting for the KKK, and still be elected over and over again to the Senate.
They can attack black conservative candidates with racial slurs and more, and not even see their propaganda machine, the media or Hollywood, even blink!
Democrats are Teflon. The current set up in the US still shows that the media dominates the information pathways and that they favor the Democrats and actually act like claques for them. Hollywood does the same.
Truly, I would love to see the truth about the dirty Democrats actually work against them, but I won’t hold my breath!

Bubba Clinton commits perjury on a serial basis, allegedly rapes Juanita Broderick, how is he punished? Book deals, millions for speeches, rock-star status, secret service protection for life. yes, he was impeached. but the gutless Republican Rino Senate would not remove him from office.
Hellary Clinton, the president in waiting, (missing billing records, Whitewater, etc., etc.).
Murtha (Abscam) Alcee Hastings (impeached judge), both will advance to leadership positions in the dhimmicrat controlled house of reps.
barney franks (male prostitute ring run from his d.c. apartment) will be new commitee chairman, mark foley? gone.

republican corruption: bad
dhimmicrat corruption: ok

Unfortunately, this story has no wheels it appears.
Quick scan of the news websites this morning =
ABCnews.com - No mention of Abramoff, although they do still have a link to soundoff on the Foley scandal.
CNN.com - short story only mentioning that Jack is going to prison.
CBSnews.com - same as CNN
NBCnews.com - same as CNN
Foxnews - nothing
Washington Times.com - nothing
Only place where there is a mention of Abramoff linking Dems to scandal is on Drudge.
Looks like this too shall pass.

Mountainmanbob wrote: “what are you all excited about? even if Abramoff outs 8 big shot dummocrat senators, what will come of it?”
New Senate: 49 Republicans 49 Democrats 2 Independents who will vote with the Democrats, effectively making the Senate 51 Dems, 49 Repubs.
Suppose 8 Senators do, indeed, get taken down by Abramoff. That means that the those seats are now VACANT. DO THE MATH!
49-8=41 + 2 independents voting with the Democrats or 49 to 43 in favor of the Republicans. Wallah! The Republicans now run the Senate, but only if the seats were to be left vacent until a special election,
Now, the seats WON’T be left vacant for 2 years. So, the states will appoint interrim Senators to represent them until 2008.
3 of the supposed 6 to 8 “very corrupt” Democratic Senators to be named by Abramoff are supposedly Boxer, Reid, and Dorgan. The governors of their 3 states are REPUBLICANS. WE ONLY NEED 1 REPUBLICAN SENATOR APPOINTED and the balance in Congress is 50-48-2 and CHENEY is the tie breaker. And the Republicans are the majority.
If 2 Republican Senators are appointed, then the balance is 51-48-2, and the Republican majority is even larger, at least until 2008.
Now do you see why I’m excited?
Abramoff, who many pundits are claiming was the final nail in the Republican coffin, besides pissing off the Democrats, is going to REVERSE the election results in our favor for the Senate.
It has nothing to DO with the MSM coverage because it will be the Justice Department prosecuting these Senators the way they did Bob Ney. He pled guilty and resigned just before the election. The MSM cannot ignore a Senator resigning and why. Nor can the MSM ignore a Senator being convicted and removed from office.
In addition to the possible take over of the Senate, 8 DEMOCRATS being convicted and removed gives the Republican the PERFECT STORM to recapture up to 8 seats in 2008 plus the chance to label the Democrats as the real “party of corruption, and here’s the proof,” regardless if even NO Republican Senators get appointed to fill the vacancies.
Honestly, Abramoff is the gift that just keeps on giving!!
georgej on November 15, 2006 at 8:01 AM
Bacadog: “Looks like this too shall pass.”
The MSM spiking the story does NOT mean that ABC’s Brian Ross’s story is wrong about Abramoff naming Democrats. Ross, if you remember, was the one who broke Foleygate.
If Abramoff is talking and naming 6 to 8 very corrupt Democrats, the MSM’s spiking the story means squat. Remember, they also spiked Monica, until Drudge broke it.
Believe me, if there is any truth to this whatsoever, then the Democrats are in a world of hurt because the consequences is the probably reversal of the election giving the Senate to the Republicans.
