The Price of Pelosi

Everybody’s talking about Nancy Pelosi’s choice to back Okinawa Jack Murtha, Abscam figure taped entertaining bribes from undercover FBI agents in 1980, to be the House Majority Leader over the more centrist Steny Hoyer. Hardly anyone’s talking about the other choice she’s signalling–on the House Intelligence Committee. Pelosi, in what looks like a fit of personal pique, will apparently pass over Rep. Jane Harman, the Committee’s ranking member. Which leaves Rep. Alcee Hastings of Florida to chair it, if seniority carries.

That would be impeached corruptocrat Alcee Hastings, removed from the federal bench for accepting a bribe back in 1989. Apparently unfit for work in the private sector, Hastings went from being impeached by a Democrat Senate to getting elected to a then-Democrat House. And now he’ll head up one of our most strategic committees in the House, while we’re at war.

So a theme begins to emerge from the Pelosi reign even though it’s a few months from starting–promise the most ethical Congress ever, while promoting Democrats who accept or entertain bribes while also using her newfound power to settle personal vendettas. Is Pelosi signalling that she has a price, too? What next–will Pelosi send Rep. William “Dollar Bill” Jefferson back to the House Budget Committee? Don’t be shocked when she does.

On the bright side, Pelosi’s reign promises to be entertaining.

On the bright side, if republicans had half a brain (gulp) they’d seize on this. Pelosi is to the liberals what The Hammer was to conservatives if not worse. The republicans should play the Murtha comments over and over again and should hammer away that there is a felon in the house leadership. This is practically a shooting gallery out there.

But what am I thinking, republicans would actually have to come out shooting.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Therefore, I love deomocrats. They’re already paving the way to self annihilation.

2 years is petty. Bring it on.

Ringmaster on November 13, 2006 at 1:51 PM

Craaaaappp. Are any of these guys any less-corrupt than those “thrown out” during this last election? I know-NO.

NTWR on November 13, 2006 at 1:57 PM

You guys keep forgetting — Republicans are the party against corruption, who discharge members who cross the line. The Democrats take the opposite stance — they are pro-corruption. Republicans — pro-life, Democrats — pro-death. Republicans — pro-America, Democrats — anti-America. And so on.

stonemeister on November 13, 2006 at 2:09 PM

How long until buyer’s remorse sets in for those independents that broke for the democrats this time and those republicans that decided to sit at home?

thirteen28 on November 13, 2006 at 2:12 PM

At least they’re working together now though, let the reconciliation begin.

The leaders of the two parties expressed confidence in mutually beneficial cooperation, even as they acknowledged some ideological differences – on the one side it’s abortions, gay marriage, and ban on religious expression, – and on the other side it’s stoning of rape victims, beheading of infidels, and imposing Sharia law worldwide (including San Francisco).
“Some challenges still remain,” al-Masri said as he concluded the meeting. “A new direction for America requires that we address those challenges constructively, by working together in the House and Senate committees on the Judiciary, Appropriations, and Foreign Relations.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who watched the meeting through a keyhole from the women’s section of the house, later stated: “We’ve made history. Now we have to make progress. And I am willing to work with whoever it takes to do just that.”

NTWR on November 13, 2006 at 2:12 PM

We knew this well before the election. Unfortunately, much of the electorate, no matter how conservative many may be, is relatively breathtakingly uninformed.

Aunt B on November 13, 2006 at 2:12 PM

I was going to say “Dollar bill? She can’t send him back! He’s been replaced by the good people of Louisiana! There’s no way he got reelected?”

Then I thought I should check first. It turns out that it was the right thing to do.

Pablo on November 13, 2006 at 2:21 PM

Uh oh, Allah! I don’t think you should keep up with all of this doom and gloom talk. It’s starting to have an effect on some of your friends at the Free Republic. One of them lost it already and has been arrested:

There isn’t really much of a difference. You all use the same talking points and think alike. Conservatives are mostly zealots, after all, no independent thought but that which Fox News and talk radio drone into you.

RE: Alcee Hastings…

Would Pelosi rather incur the wrath of black democrats in Congress, or sane people like us by appointing Alcee to that post?

Think about it really hard.

SouthernGent on November 13, 2006 at 2:42 PM

That doesn’t take a second, SouthernGent. How often does she have to rationalize anything to you when she runs into you in the hallways at work?

eeyore on November 13, 2006 at 2:54 PM

Well since I have never been to the Free Republic web site I have no way of knowing what they are saying over there. I visit conservative blogs more out of necesity since the web filtering software here at work does not allow any of the liberal websites because of such things as profanity and violence. Go figure.
Oh yeah and I can’t see any of those videos on YouTube either, it is blocked. So until the liberals can grow up I guess I will continue to rely on sites such as Boortz, LGF, Hot Air, Michelle Malkin, WND, Townhall, Day By Day Cartoon, and the Mudville Gazette.

What evils lurk in the heart of Pelosi: REVENGE

pocomoco on November 13, 2006 at 3:04 PM

Grebrook,

Do you always speak in absolutes?

It might surprise you to learn that some hard core Freeper types get banned around here. Hot Air tollerates many things, but not all things.

There are even a few (looks over both shoulders and whispers) atheists, gay folk, and blacks who hang around and comment.

It’s a crazy world.

Conservatives are mostly zealots…

Says the groupthink douchebag, spouting DU talking point after DU talking point. Get lost, maggot.

Gresbrook,

What is the point; and more importantly, who cares?

Grebrook,

Grebrook is stuck on stupid. He needs a mental hurricane to wash the muck from the squalid soupbowl of his mind.

I did not realize I was a zealot…I appreciate such enlightened observation.
Since conservatives have a Borg hive thought process, I must be defective. I am unable to access the group thought stream to understand why enlightened progressives would choose to troll conservative sites. I do not feel angry to anything specific or have BDS; so, my withdrawal symptoms from being disconnected from the group thought must be far worse than I can tell. If I can just crawl over to the radio and get Michael Medved or Hugh Hewitt perhaps I can reestablish the Hive thinking process…

Why is everyone so outraged now? We all saw the stories predicting that this would happen, and a majority of Americans decided to vote for this.

I believe this is just the tip of the iceberg that Americans will be forced to swallow for the next 2 years. My advice is to get used to it. It will only get worse.

The only bright side to this that I can see is Pelousy’s actions might be the downfall of the Impeach Bush Party in 2 years, but I wouldn’t bet cash on that yet.

DannoJyd on November 13, 2006 at 4:11 PM

Why are people upset? ? I get mighty arsed up when people think all of this national security and war on Islamo fascism is just some sort of game. I got news for ya. The guys on the other side are taking it deadly serious. Everybody says well at worst it will only last for 2 years and then if the Dems totally screw it up we can vote them out. I guess those that survive would do well to listen to that advice.

LakeRuins on November 13, 2006 at 4:18 PM

I wonder why Grebrook deliberately chose to avoid the content of AP’s post? No need to answer. It was rhetorical.

At the risk of revealing my total stupidity, I have to ask this question: why is it LEGAL for someone who commits bribery as a federal judge to hold ANY seat in Congress, let alone be appointed to head a committee like the House Intelligence Committee?? Do you at least need a security clearance? I’m convinced hopeful that I am missing some very important piece of information. If there is anyone besides f-tard

Conservatives are mostly zealots, after all, no independent thought but that which Fox News and talk radio drone into you.

PREPARE FOR “DHIMMITUDE” FOLKS

DEMOCRATS = WHITE FLAG OF SURRENDER
PELOSI = WHITE FLAG OF SURRENDER
MURTHA = WHITE FLAG OF SURRENDER
KERRY = WHITE FLAG OF SURRENDER

You would think that anyone that has been impeached as a Judge would not be able to hold office but there are so many crooks in Congress that it has become normal.

IMHO-The American people should demand some standards for holding office besides a mug shot and a rap sheet.
