[...] Do they have a large reprocessing facility? Maybe. If they do, then according to a 2003 estimate, Bushehr could churn out enough plutonium for 30 bombs a year. Which makes Russia’s decision to turn off the tap, temporary though it may be, welcome news. Politically, too: they’ve been brainwashing the public for years about their sovereign right to nuclear energy, so if Russia pulls the plug now, Ahmadinejad’s got nothing to show for his presidency. Which is not a position he can afford to be in given his unpopularity. [...]

I wish glenn would put out an audiobook (melding old public domain translations, before the p.c. hit the fans) of the al-Qur'an -and provide it for download to iPod from his website. (I can already hear him reading it ...like an eldritch Poe/Lovecraft tale...)

For those long drives to dread, since the "prophet" Mohammad beats Stephen King hands down.

So let’s bomb them before they upgrade their facilities.

Now that the 'Chamberlains' are 'in charge' and the President is apparently letting them run the show, that just isn't isn't in the cards.

Sad situation when the only hope of slowing the very real threat of nuclear armed jihadis, coming soon to a neighborhood near you, is tiny Israel.... not the US, Not the EU or any other large, fairly powerful nation or coalition. And they have their own problems with chamberlains in positions of power in their own government.

November 7, 2006: 'A day that will live in infamy' ('til we are all dead, anyway).

Exit question: just how steep will the price be of a cold peace with Tehran and Damascus?

Probably not a lot steeper than the 1938 Munich Agreement was for the Allies.

We go to war with Iraq and mangle it so badly that our best option for “victory” may end up being some sort of arrangement with Iran and Syria. Really puts this war in perspective, huh?

That's not our best option.

The monitored messages show that the $418 million will be to upgrade the defense of Iranian nuclear facilities around the country, especially for tunnelling projects because Iran’s leadership fears an American or Israeli surprise attack.

"Haass: ... Oil was available at fairly low prices, the region was largely at peace. ..."

Who is paying this dumbass? This statement is about as ignorant as any I've ever read coming from some "policy expernt". In fact, this one is so over the top it deserves a special award.

No wonder Iran is about to become a nuclear power. Vaporheads like this are making policy.

A nuke war in the middle east is not going to be avoided. It'll start when Iran nukes Israel, and will happen pretty soon. How it ends up is anyone's guess, but it won't be pretty, and the USA won't be unscathed. The whole thing could be avoided, but not with this dhimmi congress.

Exit question: just how steep will the price be of a cold peace with Tehran and Damascus?

Forget the cost, what's the likelihood?

Iran could use its influence to reign in Shia militias in Iraq. Syria could help curb the activities of ex-Baathists and Sunni Muslim insurgent groups.

This assumes that we're talking about them being friendly and able to trade advice. That's like asking Shari Lewis to use her influence with Lamb Chop. Hezbollah, anyone?
