Forget the cost, what’s the likelihood?

Iran could use its influence to reign in Shia militias in Iraq. Syria could help curb the activities of ex-Baathists and Sunni Muslim insurgent groups.

This assumes that we’re talking about them being friendly and able to trade advice. That’s like asking Shari Lewis to use her influence with Lamb Chop. Hezbollah, anyone?
