Guiliani and McCain are going to get savaged by the Club for Growth and social conservatives and whoever makes it out alive is going to be severely damaged goods.

He is the one who supported the “turn in your neighbor” gun control campaign in NYC. Meanwhile NYC was paying two armed body guards to protect Judi Nathan (Rudy’s GF).

I have nothing against the Christian wing, but this is a bad time to cede the “center” to the Dems.

Nevertheless, this is exactly why the Dems won the last election. It was the “core” that brought Republicans to power in the first place. Although Republicans won many races in ’04, the conservatives (who were courted during that time) did not. The real conservatives came out in droves to bring the Republicans to power. The party has lost touch with that and guess what…they lost.

The Republicans need a candidate that can attract votes across party lines. Rudy Giuliani is perfect. He understands the stakes and is a real person when he talks.

The worst thing Republicans could do is “go back to their base” for ’08 and let the most inflexible Christian wing veto who’s acceptable as a candidate.

I have nothing against the Christian wing, but this is a bad time to cede the “center” to the Dems.

OK he is tough on terrorists and crime.
But what OTHER conservative credentials does he have?

Negative, is that he is from New York, maybe I am being prejudice about people who do not live in New York, but perhaps they don’t like New York politicians, image as sleazy or something like that? Will the rest of the USA be able to relate to a New Yorker?

Heard Mitt Romney on Sean Hannity, tonight, driving home. He sounds interesting. Seems to have some sort of determination. I don’t know much about him beyond some blurbs and name recognition. Mitt said it is too early, wait till after all the holidays.

Then McCain, I can’t turst him, he might be too old, and been through a lot, what about mental stability. He holds finger up in the air, he can go any direction.

Newt, has it all out in the open. People will get his message, perhaps over look things and think things will get done, but will they trust him?

All in all, the debates will filter out some, the press will create bad things about people and filter some more. We can end up with people we never even thought of at this moment. Perhaps people we like and discover we don’t like them.

Steele is very strong in the public events. He radiates strength and competence. Regardless of his resume etc, I think he would be thstrongest running mate because people will vote for him, and very few will vote against him as would happen with Newt.

Is there a man who meets the second condition but not the first?

On the first condition, we’re all flawed, and should, thus, not be so judgemental. On the second, physically, I hope not. Figuratively, my friend, oh so many. And many are in Wash. D.C. or want to be. Pure jellyfish for spines! No, thank you!

I could also, theoretically (in my best SWAG analysis – that’s “scientific wild-assed guess), put Steele within reach of the White House in ’16. I remember back in 1988, a political analyst named Frank Jones said the first black in the White House will be a conservative. I’ve tended to believe him for all these years.

Or maybe Newt would work, too. He’d be the first president who had a his own set of paper dolls.
