This is not meant to diminish by one iota the brilliant talent of AP.

My drawing talent being nil, but my imagination being restless and rich, here some characters to add to the knees of Ms. Pelosi:

D. Gregory - for all the MSM reporting prima donnas
P. Sulzberger - for all the MSM ownership
Gen. W. Clark - for all the 4-star disgruntled prima donna generals
G. Soros - for all the elitist/rich hypocrits of the world
M. Moulitsas and C. Sheehan - for all the anti-war movement
A. Sullivan - for those who adhere to a unique form of conservatism (he might be the only one)
D. de Villepin and G. Schroeder - for all of old Europe
Mr. Rumsfeld's German relatives - for all those who cut the hand which used to feed them
A. Al-Zawahiri - for the dead or in-hiding bin Laden and all other terrorists and so-called insurgents
M. Ahmadinejad & Chavez - for all the totalitarian crazies of the world
C. Matthews & K. Olbermann - for all the 'sage' pundits
P. Buchanan - for all the isolationists
F. Phelps & family - well, you know...
J. McCain - for all the conservatives who asked for Mr. Rumsfeld's head on a platter
Etc. etc. etc. - add your own

Some of your best work. And cheer up you depressive minions. It’s a lovely day, regardless of the impending legislative makeup.

I will try. I was going to go put my head in the oven...

but its broken....

And it is a Caravaggio.

Photoshops like this-the artistry of Caravaggio turned to satire-are why I've religiously been following Allah for a couple of years now.

Part of the charm is that Pelosi is looking happy rather than away, and Bush has damn near the perfect expression.

Why couldn't you have put it in the form of a Garfield cartoon?

Troy, keep the faith, my brother. All hope is not lost...yet.
Bush has accomplished far more than you're willing to consider in your sad state, but it is not inconsiderable.
And he will probably surprise you. Hide and watch.
Losing Rummy was a blow, I'll grant you that, but he looks tired and needs a break and he may have told Bush "I ain't gonna take marching orders from that woman!"
Not only that, but think about the Dem leadership dragging him in front of countless "investigations" and "hearings" to defend past Pentagon policy, miring all of us in the (false) past and seriously hurting the war effort.
Let's give Gates a chance and thank Rummy for a job well done! And give Bush a break, OK?
I'm hopeful that maybe we can get things accomplished with the war and with our borders and maybe even Social Security and Medicare that we couldn't seem to get done with our Republican "majorities."
I voted straight "R" myself, but those good old boys were not getting the job done, let's face it and that is the biggest reason that Bush has "turned out" to be a disappointment in your words.
He would propose legislation and initiatives and then the R-controlled House and Senate would ...do nothing. (So, fingers crossed, maybe the Dems can stumble into doing it for us with the mandate of the people.)
Don't know about you, but I'm not gonna miss either Hastert or Frist, but I still Lubya Dubya!

You know what makes me genuinely sad. After 9/11 President Bush had a GOLDEN opportunity to become a truly admirable President. I really thought, "What a GREAT man to have in the White House. If Gore had won, this country would be in deep SH*T!" Over the years he has done some good things. Beginning the WOT and his passion for tax cuts, being a few.

Now, five years later, a vast majority of conservative republicans/libertarians are seeing him for what he really is: a moderate or quasi-liberal republican. SOOOOO Disapointing! His attempt at history may well become mediocre, and Rumsfeld, who was just fantastic with the media, has been sacrificed on the altar of "NEW TONE"

Sorry, I think I'm more disapointed in how the President has turned out than I am about losing the election this year.

I seem to remember a lot of conservatives demanding Rumsfeld resign, but i guess we can't let facts interfere with our Bush bashing, at least that's one thing we have in common with democrats. Bush sure is a "liberal butterfly" allright, that's why he lowered taxes across the board, eleminated the assualt weapons ban, tried to reform social security, appointed two pro-life judges to the supreme court, and used the might of the U.S. military to kill our enemies instead of prosecuting them in the courts i.e. Clinton. But, like i said, we can't let facts interfere with our Bush bashing.

5 years and nothing since then.

2 years from now and counting.

How long will it be before we get smacked again, now that our focus is gone.

That picture does speak a thousand words, but the issue can be summed up in one. Despicable!

I wonder how long it will take Americans to wake up to realize the huge error they committed last Tuesday, and I can only hope they will get mad enough to make themselves be heard. Our politicians are supposed to represent us all. Let's make durn sure that they do exactly that or we will have no one to blame except for ourselves.

Printed across the front page in giant red letters is this: Nixon Resigns. I kept it to remind me of those days, while wearing a uniform, just how lousy I felt about my country. Yep, those were the good ol days alright. Morale in the military was just peachy. The country had turned into the Lord of the Flies. Made me real proud they did.

...I remember the military of those times. I remember guys smoking dope *in formation*, blacks "dippity do-ing" their 'fros and stuffing 'em under caps made of stocking to compress 'em, getting by. I remember racial tension, little time for training, going through the motions, and the very day Nixon resigned. National as well as military morale was squashed.

...that's the sort of thing the Democrats excel at doing...depressing people.

Mr. Nixon was excoriated for the very sort of things the Democrats defended Mr. Clinton as having done. He and his vixen are as guilty as sin *STILL* of the sort of domestic spying, enemys-list compiling, and malfeasance. We were reminded even at his death that Mr. Nixon was a "crook". I'm certain that the press will be singing hymns of praise when Clinton goes to his judgment.

The Left wants America beaten down. Watch what they're able to accomplish in the next two years.

I’m certain that the press will be singing hymns of praise when Clinton goes to his judgment.

The Left wants America beaten down. Watch what they’re able to accomplish in the next two years.

I agree about teachers unions. The downgrade of education has been the work of the Left that has made a terrible mark on the character of our citizens and the teachers guard this stronghold fiercely.

I am shocked about the art. What a bunch of Philistines.

My daughter's choruses still managed to sing sacred music, however, as some of the greatest music written has been written by Christians.

They'd have a hard time throwing Bach under the bus.

As a former art teacher in the public school system, I can say that I was nearly fired for introducing THIS (John the Baptist)and a few other religious works (The Pieta)to my middle schoolers. The teacher’s union I was FORCED to join wouldn’t help me a WHIT.

...that's just dandy...no Christian-themed art...that means that you don't teach art history between, say, the 4th and the 19th Centuries, except for a few Bruegels, the occasional Vermeer, and portraiture. That's light on the Rembrandts, very little Michelangelo, Leonardo, NO papal art, and nothing from the 11th through the 16th Centuries, including architecture.

...can you say politically philistine? I knew you could.

Teachers unions are the *NUMBER ONE* threat to civil discourse and conservatism, followed by public sector employees unions and masquerading activists like AARP, the ACLU, and the SPLC. They are execrable.

...and the thought of being forced to join a union...it's totalitarianism.

AP, you're brilliant (I regret very much not having access to your past artistic/graphic productions) for giving us a reality check.

Dog bites man, Chafee isn't a Republican, what else is new?

Who even cares what he is now? Good riddance, loser RINO.

Disenchanted Chafee may bail on GOP

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (AP) -- Two days after losing a bid for a second term, Sen. Lincoln Chafee said he was unsure whether he would remain a Republican.

Chafee lost to Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse in a race seen as a referendum on President Bush and the GOP. On Thursday, he was asked whether he would stick with the Republican Party or become an independent or Democrat.

"I haven't made any decisions. I just haven't even thought about where my place is," Chafee said at a news conference. When pressed on whether his comments indicated he might leave the GOP, he replied: "That's fair."

Chafee, 53, is a lifelong Republican who has represented Rhode Island for seven years. His father held the same seat for 23 years before that.

He is the most liberal Republican in the Senate and was the sole Senate Republican to vote against the war in Iraq. But that was not enough to prevail against Whitehouse, who shared many of Chafee's views but was a Democrat in a heavily Democratic state.

Chafee said he has not decided what to do after leaving office, but he hoped to stay involved in public life. He said his loss may have helped the country by switching control of Congress.

"The people have spoken all across America. They want the Democrats and Republicans to work together," he said. "I think the president now is going to have to talk to the Democrats. I think that's going to be good for America."

Chafee said he waged a lonely campaign to bring the party to the middle. He described attending weekly lunches with fellow GOP senators and standing up to argue his point of view, often alone.

"There were times walking into my caucus room where it wasn't fun," he said, adding that he stayed with the GOP largely because it helped him bring federal dollars home to Rhode Island.

Let's let the dust settle on all this "bi-partisan good will". Then we'll know what Dubya's intentions (and the intentions of the Democrats) really are. Republicans were in charge but conservatives were not and the party certainly shifted to the left. The GOP will do a great deal of soul-searching to figure out how to regain control, and it's up to the base to show them the way. Meanwhile, the Democrats have a lot of pay-back to deliver the ultra-liberal left, and it will be very hard for them to hide it, or keep their promises to them without jeopardizing their chances for the White House. It's going to be very interesting to watch. Let's just hope it doesn't destroy our country in the meantime.

seejanemom, sure it's not "Judith with the head of Holofernes?"(popular subject for the Renaissance).
AP, as an Art Historian myself, I am very impressed with your catholic (small "c" meaning universal) knowledge--is this by Caravaggio or Artemisia Gentileschi?

Limerick, I lived in London (I was 17-18 years old at the time) when Nixon resigned and the British were perplexed about Watergate, even though they had wall-to-wall TV coverage, which for the Brits in those days was quite something. Now that it's 35 years later and I'm 50, I still can't figure out why Nixon had to resign or what he did that was really wrong for the life of me...I'm convinced that it was sheer hate on the part of the Media and the anti-war peaceniks (Leftists all) that took Nixon out. It was a bloodless coup, culminating in Jimmy Carter.
And now here we are again, same players. Higher stakes. Different GOP President.
I'll be G*d-damned before I let the Left take this President down, too, or end this war that we need to fight to victory!

Like our Navy since 9/11, the flag I fly is "Don't tread on me!"
God bless America and God bless our Troops and thank you, Lord for our fine vets and those that have given the last full measure of devotion to defend Liberty!

Never before have I had SUCH a splendid opportunity to be an art critic. Allah needs to re-touch this thing. Pelosi looks WAY too good in the painting. I suggest that he add some foam or some blood around her mouth. Preferably oozing/dripping down the side of her face.

I agree with serenity. We can't let our brave Men and Women in uniform down, no matter what.
The lack of support and even abuse of military people returning from Vietnam can't happen again, not on my watch.

Americans really just need to be reminded what real Conservatives can do for them and the Country.
Unfortunately I think America will again find that out, the hard way.
If more real Conservatives had been offered to voters the GOP would still be in charge.
