It’s Veterans Day weekend. Our Vent today highlights Doolittle’s Raiders, heroes of the last major war we won.
Though the press seldom acknowledges it and the administration and our political “leadership” doesn’t highlight it, the current war–and yes, Nancy, it’s really really a war and wishing that it’s not so you can avoid responsibility for losing it won’t make it so–is producing hero after hero. Many of them will come home to the quiet accolades of family and friends. Some of them will come home to silence or abuse from the left. Some won’t come home at all. Some will come home wounded and physically changed for life.
You can help that last group. Project Valour-IT is in the home stretch of raising money to provide voice-activated laptops for troops who have lost limbs defending us from the forces of Islamic terrorism overseas.
There are two ways you can help. You can donate directly, here. Our Air Force team is trying to raise $45,000 and we’re not there yet.
You can also bid on the following auctions:
Help out however you can.
Update: Link to Gulf War Chronicles auction fixed. And–the books will be personalized, autographed, etc.

Sorry Bryan, poaching is expected in a good cause. Just don’t any of you bid on that ballcap. It’s mine.

Bryan, that link you posted to the Gulf War Chronicles doesn’t seem to go to a bidding site.
When I went there, it just took me to an Amazon site where I could buy a book, as opposed to bid on it.
The second link, Marines in the Garden of Eden did go to a bidding site.

Thank you for the reminder, Bryan. I have a Valour-IT post at the top of my site that will stay there through midnight tomorrow night but I don’t get 1% of your traffic.
Have a good Veterans Day. Thank you for your service, young man.

Another organization that I like is Operation Paperback. Many of the troops are serving in out of the way places with no libraries, bookstores, etc. and they are starved for good reading material.
Here is their webpage:

This was one grassroots group that met with President Bush at the White House on October 20. As a reward for their great work supporting the military serving abroad, the President met with several groups that support the military and veterans on Oct. 20. It got no coverage by the MSM.
Here is a summary of that meeting. These groups are really worth supporting. The girl in the picture with President Bush, for example, organized a group sending care packages to the troops.

In the interest of space, I posted a tribute to my beloved MARINE CORPS, here.

Oh, and DUH….GIVE TO THIS GREAT COMPUTER FUND—for the MARINES….they never get anything that the Navy isn’t through with first…. ; )

Yeah fork it over you bum bloggers! Hey I donated $25 bucks. That ain’t much but it would buy me Quesso and Chips, an order of Carribean Jerk Buffalo Wings , about 4 Corona and limes and a little tip for the hippie waitor named Willow.

Kudos Drtuddle.
Honest to God, you inspired me to put money into the cause.
It kinda made me ashamed that it took your post to trigger that, when I should have done that as soon as this post was published.
Thanks again for helping me to do the right thing.

(apply sarcasm) A much more important fund drive going on over at Firedog Lake… raising money for a book on the CIA Leak Investigation. Ah, priorities.

EFG,
Anytime you need a prod I’m there for you! In the heterosexual, right wing, kind of way that is.

I haven’t checked the site in the last couple of days, but when I did the Navy was in the lead. “GO NAVY”. Donated $50 myself. I’m stationed out here in San Diego and Balboa Navy Hospital gets it’s fair share of our wounded Marines and Sailors from the war. This is one of the best things to donate some money to.
I wonder just how many Democrats are donating to this, or any other fundraiser to help our troops? Would be kinda interesting to know.
