I am a hawk on them all. I ended up picking economic because I was an economic conservative before there was a war on terror (and will still be one in the unlikely even the war on terrorism ever ends). And even though I am a social conservative, there are a few minor things I might be willing to compromise, but I don’t think there is anything we can compromise when it comes to the economy or terrorism.
Economic conservative and I feel some vindication in questioning Gingrich as anything approaching a viable option in the prior polls. If you thought he was viable on Nov. 6th I don’t know how you could consider him still to be today.
Once again I repeat that the best GOP candidate is Romney. No scandal, no skeletons in the closet (that we know of), moderate in a way that conservatives can grudgingly accept him and Dems can’t call him another Bush…or Gingrich.
And for the record, John Edwards has the best chance of winning for the Dems, IMHO. Hillary is too devisive, but I’d bet on her getting the nod.
Yeah, where’s the “all of the above” option for the type of conservative question?
And for the record, John Edwards has the best chance of winning for the Dems, IMHO. Hillary is too devisive, but I’d bet on her getting the nod.
One term senator? Pretty hard to do, especially after the horrible campaign he ran with Lurch. That’s Osama Obama’s problem as well. It’s hard to run for the POTUS coming straight from the senate. It’s very easy to spin congressional votes on even mundane issues, plus governors show real leadership, while senators nag at each other in comittee meetings. Nagging followed by begging for money and votes during election cycles. Not very becoming.
The whole time Condi was the National Security Advisor I wanted her to be our next Prez. She was a bad ass, a hawk, the ultimate “bad cop”. She was the rock star of the Pubbie Party and the obvious answer to Hillary.
Now that she’s the S.o.S. she’s been playing “good cop” and pissing off the Pubbie base. I hope she’s just being the diplomat that her job requires her to be while Bolton plays bad cop.
Condi was, for almost five years, my top pick for Prez. But in the last year or so she’s really lost a lot of stock.
Madam Secretary, please tell me it’s all just an act! Come back to your base, run for Prez and continue the Bush Doctrine of Pre-emption against our enemies.
Now, before any of you libs call me a warmonger, try to remember that these enemies are already AT war with US!
My first priority is the War on Islamofascism. All other issues are pointless is we lose to these animals! It won’t happen in MY lifetime but I don’t want my soon to be born daughter to hafta wear a burqa!
What else matters as mich? Nothing. Taxes? Yes, very important, but we’ll be paying the JIZYA tax if we lose this war. Stem cell research? The environment? School vouchers? C’mon, we’re not gonna care about any of this when your islamic overlords are holding a sword to your throat.
Condi is (WAS) the best (wo)man for the job of CinC during this war. She gets it. They wanna destroy us. Dr. Rice (when she was the N.S.A.) is (was) the ultimate ass kickin’, terrorist killing, pre-emptive islamic butt-stomper in the pack of potential Pubbies wanting the job.
But now? I dunno. I hope and pray the “good cop” act is just that, an ACT.
I agree that nothing is as important as the war on terror Islamofacism. The problem is the other side doesn’t think we are war and keeps pushing their lame social causes. Minimum wage? Are you kidding me!
Condi no way, She just gave the terrorists in Palestine 23 million in American arms, she pressured Israel into cease fire with Hamas in Lebanon, and she said she could work for peace with Hamas.
I’m with JohnJ. I’m most defense, social, and economic. Conservative is what I am.
Also, I wonder whether Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords is going to return to the Republican Party? Didn’t he say he was going to become an independent so that one party didn’t control both houses of Congress?
What’s up with so many people not liking Romney for being Mormon? They’re probably the most conservative – economically, socially, and defense wise – of any religious group in America, and they’re extremely vocal about it. It’s cool if people don’t agree with his religion, but I’ve had a lot of positive experiences with Mormons throughout my whole life, and I’ve got to say that they’re very good people. If we want a true conservative in 2008, I think we really need to put any negative stereotypes associated with Mormonism aside, and get behind Mitt Romney.
Here’s another problem with the GOP. As of now 72% of the people in this straw poll rate themselves as 8 or above on the 1-10 scale of conservatism. Yet you have Romney and Giuliani as your 2nd and 3rd most acceptable Candidate. These guys aren’t conservatives, Giuliani is to the left of Bush and nobody knows where the hell Romney stands cause he flip flops more than Kerry for chr*st sake.
ScottyDog, your right. Condi has really stunk of late. She wouldn’t win anyway. If between her and Hilary, Bilary would win, and that hurts so very much. Hunter is a hawk. Tancredo is terrific. Newt is the man. Heard Newt speak on American Family Radio a while back. He is the man. My choice, is Newt for Prez with Hunter, Steele, or Tancredo as VP. I can only pray.
As much as I disagree with JohnMcCain on some issues that A NUMBER 1 prioirty of the Right in this next election is to keep the white house OUT of democratic HANDS !
The WOT is in a dangerous stage right now. While McCain is bad on some social issues he will brook no foolishness when it comes to the US military. We need a strong pro military president in the White House as the WOT is the fight we must fight.
So I urge fellow republicans to understand that now that Murtha and his ilk are in power our service personel are threatened by our very own congress. And we cannot abandon our brave troops to the fate of having the democrats in complete power and hurting our military so bad that we become too weak.
If we want a true conservative in 2008, I think we really need to put any negative stereotypes associated with Mormonism aside, and get behind Mitt Romney.
Savage
What should conservatives like? His support for civil unions? His call for tougher gun controls?
Or maybe his statements like this about abortion, “I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country.”?
1) find out where the people are,
2) speak from there.
* Speak honestly.
* Don’t talk to hear your own voice.
* Don’t speak *FOR* the people. Work for the people. The people can speak for themselves.
* If you don’t believe what the folks believe, don’t consider yourself as some sort of sheepdog — and of them as some sort of sheep — herding them on to some more exalted point of view.
* Don’t ever think yourself smarter than the electorate.
* If you don’t agree with your electorate, don’t run.
* …and, most importantly, we have representative government. If you don’t represent anyone, you shouldn’t govern.
Not only will you win more elections by applying this simple formula, you’ll find it easier to govern when the better portion of the electorate agrees with you.
Minorities won’t get what they want. Sometimes they will.
Minorities which want their way or they’ll kick up a row, like children who want ice cream for breakfast, should expect to have their childishness handed back to them, along with a denial of the object of their desires. Just because you want something *REALLY, REALLY BADLY* doesn’t mean that it’s right, or that you deserve it.
…now…what do the folks believe?
…then…which of the people on the little poll above represent that, or even some of that?
…the days of “here’s what you *OUGHT* to believe” are coming to an end.
lowandslow – I’m actually with him on all three of those issues, and I’ve voted straight conservative republican tickets since I was 18. The “gun control law” was an assault weapon ban, his “support for gay marriage” was really him stating that he’d prefer civil unions to gay marriage (and noted that he would prefer neither if one or the other definitely was going to pass in the state legislature), and if that’s your strongest quote that he supports abortion, that’s pretty weak sauce. Romney has said throughout his career that he opposes Roe v. Wade. He only wants abortions to be safe because a family member of his died due to an illegal abortion procedure gone awry.
As much as I like Newt, much of the country would react to him like they do to Hillary. I just won’t work. There’s also his marriage problem, which destroys his ability to lead on marriage issues. You’ve only got a few years to be on the national stage before you get too high negatives to be elected President. That was Dole’s problem, that will be Hillary’s problem, and it would be Newts. He’s so, like, 1994.
McCain won’t “fold” on the military? How about all that carping about how we’re “torturing” the enemy? We certainly could have done without that!
As for Romney, I like him alot, but don’t care for that “universal health care” deal he’s got going in Mass.–very Dem and very unGOP and not fiscally conservative.
Who would have thought that Newt would come out of this week’s debacle looking like a winner?!
I’m still holding out for Condi, but loving the idea of President Rudy regardless of his GOP-lite position on gays, guns, and abortion. That’ll bring all those “moderates” in the “middle” back to the GOP fold!
Savage,
Go ahead and support Romney then. It seem to me we haven’t learned anything from Tuesdays ass kicking. We may have kicked McCain aside but we throw our support to other unelectable candidates like Romney and Giuliani. I guess losing the Senate and House wasn’t enough, we want to go for the trifecta and give away the White House also.
It is Condi’s job to be a dove, and she works for Bush. I think it is clear she is 2X as concervative and 2X the Hawk as Bush if she is making policy.
As for Romney remember he is working with a state legislature that is more then 75% (D) and the Boston Globe runs hit job stories on him nonstop. It would be a miracle if he got them to pass a resolution saying the sky is blue. He is some kind of super politician that he turned the state budget around and will finish his term without being torpedoed politically.
I’m looking for a conservative that isn’t afraid to be a gosh darned conservative. I’m looking for someone with a bigger set of brass balls than me. Someone willing to walk into Baghdad with a five pound bag of pork ribs in the passenger seat, and a good Imported German Beer between his legs.
Someone who would go to gitmo just to spit in the eye of KSM.
Someone willing to say that we aren’t willing to let Mexico or Canada be our border patrol.
Someone who is cranky, pissy, and might just drop a nuke on Pakistan to kill Osama, or if he’s having a bad day.
Someone willing to go to Dearbornistan and tell every Hamas loving, jewish protesting son of camel to pack his bags because his citizenship just got revoked.
I am looking for an American who is proud to be an American and isn’t going to let some fat lazy corrupt world government body like the UN how to wipe his nose.
You show me that man or woman, and I’ll vote for him.
Geez EmmettJ….hmmmmmmm…how hard would it be?….slip a couple of toons in her purse on her next junket to Tehran, make an anonymous phone call or two….hmmmmmmmmm…..
The cold hard brutality of the matter is we just got our asses handed to us in an election. We cant afford to be too picky in our strategies anymore.
Yes McCain isnt the first choice I would have either. But I ahve enough political sense to realize that a half a republican is better than a full fledged democrat.
And yes McCain is tough on the military on the torture issue. But it is also his military experience and his experince as a POW that gives him immunity on this issue. Can you see Murtha or even Kerry trying to denegrate McCain and his military service ? They cant even compare.
And McCain will also defuse some of the bunk thrown at us by the MSM. They do like the guy and wilo cut hit slack rather than his throat.
It isnt about “Who is best” anymore. The War on Terror is raging and we need a President who WILL fight it. McCain isnt a hardcore conservative on most issues BUT he certainly will NOT back down from a fight that has to be fought.
We lost the Congress. We lost the Senate. Cold Hard reality needs to set in. We need to win the White House to set up a retaking of the Congress and Senate. McCain gives us the few years we need to keep the nutroots from destroying this country and retaking Congress. THEN we can start to look for a great conservative to replace McCain after he has done his time in office.
Its about the future. We need a caretaker preisdent for the time being. Ford held the fort only losing it at the last because of Watergate. That allowed Reagan to come in later. McCain is our Gerald Ford right now. We have to aim a little lower to gain all that we want.
Mr. Amos….thank you sir! As a man condemned as a RINO it is refreshing to find someone who understands that compromise is not surrender. Here, have a beer. Im all for the President who’s first priority is putting lead down range. All else can wait.
Sorry, Romney being Mormon IS an issue; I say that mainly because my family has deep Mormon roots. I respect the religon and most people who practice it, but there are various idiosyncracies that I would be uncomfortable with. And being a good Mormon religon is a big part of Romny’s life; bottom line, I think it would make him unelectable at the national level when the tough questions come.
Im very conservative. And I wish that we could elect a conservative without causing a bloody uproar.
I think the main test for most conservatives is who McCain would chose as a running mate. A good conservative who many can get behind and see maybe one day take over as president.
Bush made a mistake in taking Cheny in that he now has no llegacy. I think McCain can be presuaded to take a great young Conservative as his running mate.
We have two years to get our act together and set things in mmotion. To stay divided is to increase our chances of losing.
f Newt were to run, he would be the most qualified presidential candidate in most if not all of our lifetimes.
n2sooners on November 9, 2006 at 7:15 PM
As a Georgian, let me clue all you “Newties” in on something: he has BIG BIG BIG BAGGAGE. I like Newt, I like his policies, I do NOT like his personal life. He is a CAD as far as women go. He is a cheater and liar in his personal life and frankly, as much as I like what he “says” he stands for, I KNOW how he really LIVES. And that is why I would NOT support him for ANY national role. Period.
Do a little research on Newt. Why do you think he had to step away from elected office? He and Guiliani as much as I like both of them, to me, as a woman, they are NOT getting my vote. Both of them are cheaters and liars and people who let their then-wives suffer public humiliation. To me, that is reprehensible and I WONT support a man like that.
A whole bunch of wishy washy conservative dems got elected. They were running on the exact same platform as their Republican counterparts. The only difference was the R and D.
Why should a voter, vote for the R who is saying the exact same thing as a D, except the D promises change in Iraq.
A quarter of the population is retarded! And I think that most of the guys running as R’s were part of that group! We failed to set ourself forth as conservatives. We appear to be the party of big government, scandal, and overspending.
It’s sad, but it’s true.
We need a governor, someone untouched by scandal, into balanced budgets, fiscal responsibility, homeland security, a win in the war on terror, and needs to be American like baseball and apple pie.
We are the party of Honest Abe Lincoln! Where is our Honest Abe?
AZ Redneck, You listed everything I want, too!
Is it do-able and within our reach or are we just dreaming?
(McCain is nutz, or at best bi-polar, plus he’s getting old and tired. His best role will be to remain as the Senior statesman of the Republican Senate, kind of like our answer to their Kennedy.)
The cold hard brutality of the matter is we just got our asses handed to us in an election. We cant afford to be too picky in our strategies anymore.

…I can see the campaign commercials now:
(usual resume trash, followed by a picture of the candidate) “Vote for John McCain…(smiles)…because he’s the best we could find on short notice….”
…weak…very weak….
We’ve got two years. Start looking. They don’t *HAVE* to be celebrities. Name recognition is the job of the party. Get the name recognized.
This isn’t an annointing. This isn’t to fulfill anyone’s ambitions.
Find the right guy or gal. This is too important to screw up…again….
If we can’t find the right guy, call Zell Miller out of retirement. That oughta fox ‘em.
It’s not gonna be McCain/Graham, that’s for sure. I predict Lindsay Graham will not win again in SC. There is a lot of anger there for him. Being born and raised in South Carolina, I’m sure Strom Thurmond is rolling over in his grave seeing how Graham has behaved in “his” seat. Blech!
Troy Rasmussen on November 9, 2006 at 7:49 PM
I seem to remember reading that after the ’02 midterms (or maybe it was ’04) that Jumpin’ Jim made some overtures to Republicans to rejoin the party and was rebuffed. Good for whoever told him to get lost.
BTW, Hamzi is a muslim terrorist imprisoned in the U.K. He lost both hands making a bomb and now has two hooks. There’s a poor unfortunate guy who has to wipe this guy’s butt for him. I kid you not.
E.L. is right (as usual) that we need a Govenor for ’08. Condi is my first pick but if not her then it’s gotta be a Gov, we do’t need no steeeking senators!
re: Jumping Jim: I’m kinda hoping that Liebermann will become the new anti-Jumping Jim! You know, stay “Independent” and vote with the GOPers, at least on the war.
Let’s not limit ourselves to governors (No, I don’t want Texas’s Rick Perry or that goofball dieter Huckaby from Ark.!)…and I don’t want Rick Santorum to be forgotten.
JFK made it to the White House as a Senator you know…
SG, losing Graham would be losing Chaffee–such a RINO he’s practically a Dem! Plus, I hate his drawl. Combined with his cretinism, he is the consummate hick from the sticks!
What an embarrassment!

Absolutely right – how about Steele for VP?
Miller’s a good idea, too – but what about age? Possibly Gingrich as a suitable replacement for Miller?

The American people have abdicated their responsiblities of self government. The left and the so called “right”, look to the government for their solutions and cradle to grave entitlements. Most Americans don’t know what it is to be free any longer, or have a passion to keep it.
I think its possible, but not now or in ’08. I think it will get worse and very hard before it gets any better.
He and Guiliani as much as I like both of them, to me, as a woman, they are NOT getting my vote…cheaters and liars…that is reprehensible and I WONT support a man like that.
I agree that their marital baggage won’t cut it for POTUS with a lot of us. I DO think that the next Republican POTUS would be well served to appoint Guiliani or Newt to Cabinet level or advisory positions.
If it’s name recognition, how about this? — Emmett J.
…Josh J.? That’s not name recognition…it’s wildlife recognition. That guy’s a weasel.
…and, saying that, I apologize for any offense to fur-bearin’, musk-bearin’ critters everywhere.
If track record and name recognition are key *before* the campaign begins, I nominate Santa Claus.
Yes, let’s nominate Jolly Old Saint Nick to carry the banner of the Republican Party in 2008. ‘Most everyone has heard of him, he’s got a high “Q” quotient (does anyone remember “Q”?), and has lots of support at the lower end of the voting demographic. What’s more, he’s got plenty of schtick.
…but, judging from his track record, I suspect that he’s a Democrat. He works one day a year, gives stuff away willy-nilly, and nobody can tell where he’s gonna get the money to pay for next year’s promised goodies. Then again, he judges people by their conduct…naughty and nice…so, maybe we’ve got a shot.
Santa Claus in politics…he’s old, just like Robert Byrd…and he’s a *Kringle*, and Byrd was a Kleagle…maybe they know eachother….
Other potential candidates or running mates that merit consideration:
Rumsfield – Why has no one mentioned him; if the dems screw up the war the way they probably will, and we face another devastating terrorist attack here, he could experience a sudden resurgence in popularity. Historical precedent definitely argues for this possibility.
Powell – Traitor? I know I wouldn’t go for him, but I could see McCain picking him for a runnin mate…ugh…what a ticket.
Is there any conceivable way of telling how many voted for Allahpundit in the recent elections?
Puritan sure makes Santa Claus sound promising, though once people learn that his Elven labor are all illegal aliens who are addicted to (and paid in) high fructose corn syrup, it’ll be the end of him.
Honestly, I am greatly impressed by anyone who has an informed opinion on this poll. Sadly, I have no idea where half of the candidates stand on the various issues, and I’m far too lazy to research it this early in the game.
Is there some industrious blogger who has a table comparing the candidates?
Puritan sure makes Santa Claus sound promising, though once people learn that his Elven labor are all illegal aliens who are addicted to (and paid in) high fructose corn syrup, it’ll be the end of him.
…in today’s predatory political climate, you’re probably right…and I’m fresh out of options. I was keeping the Easter Bunny as a fall-back guy, but there’s probably a constitutional provision specifying species to qualify for office….
Why not – win with “The Big Red One” in ‘08.
…nooooooooooooooow…there’s a slogan that’ll go over well in Pelosi’s home district!
//Genetics. Incest sometimes results in some very debilitating offspring. Not a pretty thought, but reality nonetheless.
techno_barbarian on November 9, 2006 at 10:13 PM
True, but not always. And besides, are you saying people should also abort their child if they learn it will be retarded? Are retarded people not valuable?
To me, if we’re going to oppose abortion on the grounds that it “stops a beating heart”, then how can we decide that “stopping a beating heart” is only a big deal if the father of that “beating heart” is not the mother’s sister or is not a rapist???
Last I checked, we don’t judge who does and who does not deserve to live based on who their parents are and what their parents did.
Now if you want to go with a different reason to oppose abortion, then fine.
I strongly believe that our next candidate MUST be a strong communicator above all else. I think we’re winning in Iraq and in the WoT in general, but we’re losing the PR/propaganda war because Bush et al can’t seem to get their message past a hostile media. I’m so tired of knowing that we’re doing the right thing and then listening to my president stutter and hesitate his way through a feeble-sounding justification of it. He’s just a poor speaker, and that’s all there is to it.
I think the best communicator on this straw poll is easily Rudy. Remember his rousing speech at the last Republican Convention? Wow! I think he could even get Cindy Sheehan waving a flag if we locked him up in a room with her for a few hours. Well, maybe not, but you get my point. I think he can really inspire people when he speaks.
I like Newt because he is genuinely conservative and he’s proven he can motivate people to support a conservative agenda. He’s a strong communicator, but not as inspirational a speaker as Rudy can be.
I also like John Cornyn, senator from Texas, but I’ve never heard a whisper about him running for prez. He’s a genuine conservative, too, and is able to communicate conservatism eloquently when given the opportunity.
Lowandslow…we already have a trifecta; the whitehouse is for all intents and purposes..lost. Bush shoved a final dagger and middle finger to the base after our defeat by going out and braying about his coming amnesty. McCain is another big amnesty guy and he gets half a point for being smart enough not to highlight that fact and rub our face in it..instead he’s leaning hard right..and apparently you’re going for it. Big mistake. I maintain that McCain, leading that feckless pack of RINOS in the Senate is responsible for the majority of the outrages that so alienated the base. Combine that with the apparently accurate statistic from Southpark that 25% of the American people are retards, and you have complete defeat for the United States over the next 8 years or so. Despite all the stupidity and wasted time of the last 4 years by the GOP, the Democrats did not deserve to win. They ran on nothing. We elected a bunch of morons who hate the opposition party more than Islamic terrorists. Way to go America. Me, I’ve got bet with myself that President Hillary Clinton will be meeting with the head of the Islamic Caliphate in the next 8 years; they’ll want her to wear a burqa and she’ll do it..and the press will hail it as the greatest diplomatic masterstroke since Kissinger went to China. Look forward to it guys..it’s the only thing we’ll have left..that and watching Rinos like McCain and Goober from SC get picked off and replaced with Democrats. We’re doomed.
I take it back–Newt can speak as inspiringly as Rudy. I just watched the Newt “Contract with America” video, and I had forgotten what Newt is like when he’s in front of a crowd talking about his passion for American ideals. I’ve only seen him doing the pundit thing on TV the last few years.
I reiterate: We MUST have another great communicator as our next president!!! We have to have a PR warrior who can fight the propaganda war just as well as our military is conducting the shooting war.
Aero, I’m from Texas and I like John Cornyn too, but there must be something wrong with him. He says so little, that I wonder if he is not keeping his head down so as to not draw fire. His politics are great, but hae has almost no profile.
I agree with what has been said about needing a leader who is a good communicator, but we need a leader who is a good communicator who is also a conservative–and has some vision for the country. That’s what was so great about Reagan. He was truly the right man at the right moment.
But it has become too easy for the left to render bloodied and bruised anyone who appears to be a great prospect for a right leaning leader, a la George Allen. He’s done and itmostly was just the result of so much mud-slinging that it would have been almost impossible to NOT fall into some sort of trap.

But I’m an Economic, social and War on Terror conservative!
JohnJ on November 9, 2006 at 6:23 PM
Which one are you the MOST of, John? Are you a defense hawk, a social-issues hawk or a economic hawk? I think that’s what they’re asking.
Of course I’d have no way to know, because where I’m posting from won’t allow me to finish taking the poll.
mikeomatic on November 9, 2006 at 6:28 PM
Who I vote for depends on a candidate being,
Pro-Life (exceptions for rape, incest and ABSOLUTE danger to mothers life)
Pro-2nd Amendment (It’s not about duck hunting damnit!)
Pro-Border Security Enforcement (I’m not anti-immigration, I’m anti-ILLEGAL immigration, there’s a differnece.)
Pro-War on Terror (it’s war, not a damn police action)
Those are the 4 make or break issues that decide who I vote for.
Yakko77 on November 9, 2006 at 6:28 PM
I am a hawk on them all. I ended up picking economic because I was an economic conservative before there was a war on terror (and will still be one in the unlikely even the war on terrorism ever ends). And even though I am a social conservative, there are a few minor things I might be willing to compromise, but I don’t think there is anything we can compromise when it comes to the economy or terrorism.

Wanted to enter Mike Steele. Am not really too excited about any other conservatives right now. Tancredo maybe.

How about for President: Newt Gingrich; Vice-President: Ann Coulter?
That would be sure to enrage the MSM and motivate the base. It would also make for a very fun election.

Sorry this comment was so long.

Also, I wonder whether Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords is going to return to the Republican Party? Didn’t he say he was going to become an independent so that one party didn’t control both houses of Congress?

It’s nice to see Duncan Hunter on there. He stood up on immigration issues in CA. Need to know more about him before I’d give the nod, though.

Savage on November 9, 2006 at 8:04 PM
Here’s another problem with the GOP. As of now 72% of the people in this straw poll rate themselves as 8 or above on the 1-10 scale of conservatism. Yet you have Romney and Giuliani as your 2nd and 3rd most acceptable Candidate. These guys aren’t conservatives, Giuliani is to the left of Bush and nobody knows where the hell Romney stands cause he flip flops more than Kerry for chr*st sake.
lowandslow on November 9, 2006 at 8:06 PM

And we cannot abandon our brave troops to the fate of having the democrats in complete power and hurting our military so bad that we become too weak.

mikeyboss on November 9, 2006 at 8:21 PM
…formula for electoral success:
1) find out where the people are,
2) speak from there.
* Speak honestly.
Puritan1648 on November 9, 2006 at 8:27 PM
lowandslow – I’m actually with him on all three of those issues, and I’ve voted straight conservative republican tickets since I was 18.
Savage on November 9, 2006 at 8:40 PM
As much as I like Newt, much of the country would react to him like they do to Hillary. I just won’t work. There’s also his marriage problem, which destroys his ability to lead on marriage issues. You’ve only got a few years to be on the national stage before you get too high negatives to be elected President. That was Dole’s problem, that will be Hillary’s problem, and it would be Newts. He’s so, like, 1994.
pedestrian on November 9, 2006 at 8:40 PM
Jen the Neocon on November 9, 2006 at 8:43 PM

Go ahead and support Romney then. It seem to me we haven’t learned anything from Tuesdays ass kicking. We may have kicked McCain aside but we throw our support to other unelectable candidates like Romney and Giuliani. I guess losing the Senate and House wasn’t enough, we want to go for the trifecta and give away the White House also.
lowandslow on November 9, 2006 at 8:55 PM
It is Condi’s job to be a dove, and she works for Bush. I think it is clear she is 2X as concervative and 2X the Hawk as Bush if she is making policy.
As for Romney remember he is working with a state legislature that is more then 75% (D) and the Boston Globe runs hit job stories on him nonstop. It would be a miracle if he got them to pass a resolution saying the sky is blue. He is some kind of super politician that he turned the state budget around and will finish his term without being torpedoed politically.

2) Will repeal the National Firearms Act of 1934, the Gun Control Act of 1968, and abolish the ATF.
3) Will abolish the Department of Education.
4) Will stop looking to change regimes or impose “democracy” around the globe.
5) Understands that our form of government is a federal republic, not a democracy.
6) Will stop all funding for the UN and kick them out of the country.

He works one day a year, gives stuff away willy-nilly, and nobody can tell where he’s gonna get the money to pay for next year’s promised goodies. Then again, he judges people by their conduct…naughty and nice…so, maybe we’ve got a shot.

Kemp – Too old I guess, though Reagan was older.
Ashcroft – Drive the nutroots crazy?

Could we have a link to the results page please? I’d like to see how the poll is shaping up.
