The Washington Post reports that Michael Steele could be the next chairman of the Republican National Committee. Current chairman Ken Mehlman reportedly will not run for a second term and will recommend Steele as his successor. Republicans who take this job tend not to hold political office after their tenure. I would love to see Steele run again–but he’d do a fantastic job as RNC chair. Steele is a great campaigner. The man won 45% of the vote in a state that has two times as many registered Democrats as Republicans. He’s got charisma, mojo, and presence. Any Republican who can garner nearly half the electorate in Maryland is a winner in my book.
Also: Wouldn’t you loooove to see Steele go up against Howard “You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people of color in a single room? Only if they had the hotel staff in here” Dean on the talk shows every week?
Smackdowns and beatdowns galore.
