Sen. Nelson’s son arrested after election party

A Kennedy in the family:

The son of Sen. Bill Nelson was arrested early Wednesday after allegedly pushing an officer in a confrontation hours after he had taken the stage at his father’s re-election party.

Charles William Nelson, 30, was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest.

Important information, not mentioned until the 5th paragraph:

Police say Nelson tried to pick her up and drag her away, dropping her when the officer instructed him to put her down. The report said the senator’s son attempted to push the officer away, then was pepper-sprayed for two to three seconds and handcuffed.

What was he doing with a passed out woman and why was he dragging her away?

If Nelson was a Republican, you better believe Dems would be calling for his resignation. I’m just saying.

MORE: Nelson was involved in a fight?

The Orlando Police Department said officers were sent to the intersection of Pine Street and Magnolia Avenue at about 2:40 a.m. to respond to a large fight involving about 20 people. When officers arrived, most of the crowd dispersed, but one officer said he noticed two men standing next to a woman who was slumped over on the ground.

“Nothing to see here….move along”

whtabtbill on November 8, 2006 at 10:36 PM

that’s meant to be sarcastic, by the way.

whtabtbill on November 8, 2006 at 10:36 PM

Drain the swamp!

SouthernGent on November 8, 2006 at 10:47 PM

that’s meant to be sarcastic, by the way.

But the MSM will “move along” because it’s the son of a Dem and theres no way the MSM is going to do any negative news stories about Dems right now.

mlong on November 8, 2006 at 10:50 PM

Welcome to the Brave New World, folks.

Internet Fairness Act will cause all “hyper-partisan webblogs” to shut down when they post stuff detracting our new overlords and their Commisariat.

Mortis on November 8, 2006 at 10:53 PM

Harris for Senate! Harris for Senate!

Fine. Nobody listened to me here in Florida either.

Anton on November 8, 2006 at 11:02 PM

Honestly, I’m not sure this is really relevant to anything. I’d rather Republicans stayed away from the wives, siblings, children and other relatives of politicians.

Slublog on November 8, 2006 at 11:09 PM

I for one welcome our new barbarian drag them by their hair especially when they’re passed out overlords.

spmat on November 8, 2006 at 11:19 PM

Yeah, what Slublog said.

see-dubya on November 8, 2006 at 11:25 PM

Leave him alone… he’s a Democrat. We should really be concerned about the Bush twins partying with fake IDs, and nail the President’s ass to the ground for that one! Or even Bush and Cheney’s decades old DUI’s. They have “R”s next to their names, so they’re fair game.

(had to emerge just to say that… now I’m going back in to my cave)

RightWinged on November 8, 2006 at 11:25 PM

His future in Dem politics is now assured.

mesablue on November 8, 2006 at 11:31 PM

Funny, it took SEVEN paragraphs for the author of this article to reveal that his father is the DEMOCRATIC Senator of Florida. I’m pretty sure if he was a Republican it would have the first word in the story.

BreezeCJ on November 8, 2006 at 11:44 PM

Does the revealing of this story fall in line with Bush’s New Tone? I wonder what Rumsfeld is thinking about the New Tone right about now.

Joshua P. Allem on November 8, 2006 at 11:54 PM

So what? Where is the relevance?

DannoJyd on November 9, 2006 at 12:03 AM

What was he doing with a passed out woman and why was he dragging her away?

Well, he is modeling the Kennedys, so we should expect no less. That is, unless there is a bridge and a car involved. And the dropping of pants.

Bellicose Muse on November 9, 2006 at 12:22 AM

It is amazing what the press decides to follow, if not totally predictable. Foley was the Devil incarnate, and we heard nothing else for 2 weeks. This will not make the evening news, and maybe a two sentence article on page C-12.

gmoonster on November 9, 2006 at 12:25 AM

The guy is 30 years old. Who his daddy is has no relevance.

Unless he runs for office someday. Oh, yeah, and if he becomes a Republican.

stonemeister on November 9, 2006 at 12:56 AM

Drain the swamp!

The Left considers their swamp to be a protected wetland. Can’t do it.

Coyote D. on November 9, 2006 at 1:15 AM

The Party of Clinton and Kennedy returns.

It begins.

You mean like the way the Bush haters left Barbra and Jenna alone?

georgej on November 9, 2006 at 1:17 AM

Bill Nelson’s no Clinton or Kennedy.

Donnah on November 9, 2006 at 1:27 AM

His son sure seems to be.

Good Lt on November 9, 2006 at 1:34 AM

My only point on this one is that the MSM is treating and will treat this differently than they would if it were a relation of “the other party.”

Just like Barbara and Jenna Bush and how they were treated compared to Al Gore the third.

And just like the LLL commentary, the razzing jokes for the former and the high-snoot indignation over the latter.

Personally I’d rather none of it be national news – it’s pathetic. But I’m not willing to let there be a common assumption that one party gets a pass and the other one doesn’t. Homey don’t play that.

Dejavu… could you be the Kennedy I once knew?

That’s gonna be some kinda hangover.

seejanemom on November 9, 2006 at 6:36 AM

Hey sublog and other poo pooers, ask Jeb Bushs daughter about what fair game is. Remember what the left did to her? She was busted for Rx drug abuse and had her hearing and mugshot pasted all over the tube for weeks.

Which furthers proves my point: the election was not won the liberals, it was won by the MSM.

RightWired on November 9, 2006 at 7:36 AM

Is it just me or does this guy LOOK like a Kennedy?

bloggless on November 9, 2006 at 7:41 AM

I know this really isn’t funny in the true sense of the word, but does anyone else find it humorous that the jerk “tried to pick her up and drag her away”? Maybe it was a classic case of “finders, keepers”.

bloggless on November 9, 2006 at 7:46 AM

The guy is 30 years old. Who his daddy is has no relevance.

Unless you are the presiding judge, I must respectfully disagree.

Graduate of the Kennedy school of partying.

georgej on November 9, 2006 at 1:17 AM

Ok, let’s see there was John Kennedy’s law boards thing, Chelsea Clinton being called a “dog” by the Oxymoron, Michael Skekell (sp?) being identified as a “Kennedy”, Theresa Heinz Kerry being attacked for being rich…and Barbra and Jenna were left alone–when is the last time you heard anything from them? The exception being that underaged drinking thing. Well at least they come by it honest. (Ok, low blow, sorry)

honora on November 9, 2006 at 10:39 AM

Since when is attacking somebody for being rich a bad thing. You libs do it all the time. The Skaekel family identifies themselves as Kennedy cousins. As far a Chelsea being called a dog, that was just nasty. Since Barbara and Jenna have matured and are now making contributions to society, the Main Stream Media has indeed left them alone.

bloggless on November 9, 2006 at 10:53 AM

Was the “passed out woman” Katherine Harris?

Lehuster on November 9, 2006 at 11:07 AM

The Republicans never play dirty. They let Sandy Bergler get away. William Jefferson who? The Dems are winning because they do not let ONE THING slide. They play it to the hilt and gain traction. They can take a small/local issue and fling the poo so it hits the entire Republican party.

Remember Jennifer Aniston joking to a national audience about how she teased Bush’s daughter for underage drinking? I know I do.

Carin on November 9, 2006 at 11:38 AM

The Republicans never play dirty.

Oh for heaven’s sake, how can you make such a naive comment. What are you, twelve?

honora on November 9, 2006 at 11:56 AM

I propose a toast. To the Party of new ideas, and a change of direction. I also propose a toast to the Party of higher taxation. And a toast to the Party of social spending and welfare. And another toast to the party of less military, less defense, less security. And, and, and…..It’s obvious how the poor guy got drunk. So much to celebrate! Well, drink hardy my lefty friends, the light headedness and utopias thoughts that you have won a mandate to rule, is just the booze talking. Yes, drink up, and loosen your tongues. Let us know who you really are, and what you envision the world to be. And I have a feeling the next two years of drunken leadership, will end with a bad head ache and a very bad hang over. Here’s mud in your eye……..

soulsirkus on November 9, 2006 at 12:04 PM

I agree. Not sure why this has any relevance. I also agree that if it were a Republican’s kid, it would be all over the news.

But, point being made, should Conservatives play that same slimey game? I think not.

robblefarian on November 9, 2006 at 12:11 PM

I can make the “naive” comment because I actually am surrounded by liberals that are totally clueless about the scandals in their party. Mention a Democrat scandal and they will look at you with blank stares; doe eyes. Certainly it gets discussed here, and for those who look – but it never reaches the level of PUBLIC consciousness that Republican scandals. Why? Because Republicans are ineffective at making a big issue out of it.

Sandy Burgler is a prefect example They let it go. Name me ONE time Dems have simply dropped an issue.

And, no I’m not 12. Nor am I naive or stupid. Note my comment has been w/o a personal attack at you.

Carin on November 9, 2006 at 12:38 PM

And I agree with you robblefarian. It just bites at my craw.

But you said “The Republicans never play dirty. So how can there be Republican scandals?” I did not call you stupid; I stand by the description of anyone who claims their party never does this or that as naive.

And don’t be so quick to denigrate your party as being ineffective at making a big thing out of Dem scandals–you remember Ken Starr? How often is Ted Kennedy’s infamy (over 30 years old) brought up on this blog? JFK/Marilyn Monroe? Johnson’s Baker scandal? Please.

honora on November 9, 2006 at 12:47 PM

So, I misspoke when I said “never”. I’m irritable- I’m allowed a tad of hyperbole, no? But their efforts are ineffectual. Either that, or liberals simply do not care. Nice example of Kennedy – lol. He was still in offiice last time I checked? Exactly how would you call that an effective smearing? Even more amazing is that he actually committed a CRIME and got completely away with it. Effective means they are politically neutralized. At least, in my book it does.

Carin on November 9, 2006 at 1:10 PM

So Dems invented smearing huh? Ever hear of Helen Douglas? How about Joe McCarthy? Lee Atwater? Oh and BTW what ever happened to the Reps looking into the Foley business? I would be particularly interested in the explanation of why the Dem on the page oversight comm was not informed of Foley’s indiscretions while the 2 Reps were.

Pitiful.

honora on November 9, 2006 at 1:23 PM

Foley Resigned ( the rest of your comment has nothing to do with the topic).

William Jefferson?
Marion Barry?
Sandy Berger (hand slapped)?
Alcee Hastings?
John Conyers?

Ok, I’m done. At times, I see that discussion is pointless.
