Mizzou passes stem-cell initiative

How do you say “pwn3d” in Aramaic?

The ballot initiative that would have banned gay marriage in deep-red Arizona failed too despite having had the support of Our Moral Leader. A double dose of good news for Mayor Rudy, I’d say.

I was going to give you a clip from “The Passion” to illustrate the Missouri outcome but none of us are in the mood for an argument this morning. Then I thought I’d post the vid from “Teen Wolf” where one of the extras standing behind Michael J. Fox has his schwanz hanging out for all the world to see. That would nicely encapsulate how we’re all feeling this morning.

But upon further reflection, I don’t know how well that would fly either.

So instead you get the generic “Teen Wolf” clip montage. No schwanzes visible here, I think, but then I didn’t look too closely.

Blowback

Come on, is that really necessary? We’re all a little beat right now, or at least I am.

Esthier on November 8, 2006 at 11:29 AM

How do you say, “We value human life” in Missouri?

Oh wait, I guess you don’t.

Cary on November 8, 2006 at 11:36 AM

YES!! Can I clone myself to mow the yard? Oops, sorry been done in that Michael Keaton movie- Dang…

Trooper on November 8, 2006 at 11:37 AM

LMAO. I remember this movie. It sucked and I never watched it.

zerodamage on November 8, 2006 at 11:43 AM

Allah:

I’m from Arizona. What with all the rich, Chomsky-reading Californians buying houses in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley, the LAST thing we are is deep red.

mikeomatic on November 8, 2006 at 11:49 AM

Cloned!

How do you say, “We value human life” in Missouri?

It’s getting harder to detect the value of human life in many states. Too bad.

wytammic on November 8, 2006 at 11:50 AM

Arrrrgggghhhhhh!!!!!

Sorry, that’s all I could think of.

aelhues on November 8, 2006 at 11:50 AM

Wait a minute. Human life has value?

mikeomatic on November 8, 2006 at 11:51 AM

Wait a minute. Human life has value?

Only if it’s federally funded.

Hoodlumman on November 8, 2006 at 11:55 AM

Only if it’s federally funded.

Unless you’re a fetus or your name was Terry Schiavo…

Slublog: Here comes the Fairness Doctrine. Say goodbye to your f__king “job security.”

mikeomatic on November 8, 2006 at 12:11 PM

Fairness Doctrine – won’t pass. The nutroots will oppose just as heavily as we will. Opposition to government intrusion of that nature brings people together.

Now clean up your mouth, stiffen your spine and consider the possibilities.

Slublog on November 8, 2006 at 12:16 PM

Here’s you: “The Fairness Doctrine won’t pass. The nutroots will oppose just as heavily as we will.”

Now here’s the nutroots: “You mean it’ll shut those fucking Republicans up for good? RIGHT ON! What petitions do I sign?!”

mikeomatic on November 8, 2006 at 12:26 PM

Yeah because it’s never happened before.

Slublog on November 8, 2006 at 12:29 PM

Amendment 2 was in total freefall the last 2 weeks: polls showing 51% in favor turned out to be true. It appears that almost all the 25% who were undecided turned against it. A little more Suppan, Sweeney and Warner and prestochango — no Amendment 2. Unfortunately for Warner and company, the clock just ran out too soon.

But no worries — think Prohibition

Tongueboy on November 8, 2006 at 12:51 PM

All right. We don’t exactly have everyone on the same page, though…

mikeomatic on November 8, 2006 at 12:52 PM

The whole thing wasn’t ever about “research”, it was about opening the taxpayer vault door and handing out money from it like there is no tomorrow.

Missouri residents had better prepare for much higher taxes as their treasury dollars fly out the window.

NRA4Freedom on November 8, 2006 at 12:53 PM

Dude. A warning before an ANSWER link?

That gave me the creeping shudders.

Slublog on November 8, 2006 at 12:54 PM

Me too. Just wanted to remind you that limiting freedom of speech on the radio would sound like a really good idea to some people.

mikeomatic on November 8, 2006 at 1:36 PM

and not just the radio either…

mikeomatic on November 8, 2006 at 1:37 PM

The numbers are so close that recounts will definitely come into play.

And let’s hope the recounts say NO. This amendment is far too risky–for ethical and financial reasons alike.

KatieFavazza on November 8, 2006 at 1:38 PM

Just wait for UN regulation of the Internet. It’s already been discussed. Ambassador Jimmy Carter will certainly vote for it.

Missouri passed embryonic stem cell research?

Hell yes. We won in South Dakota too, knocking down your abortion ban.

Hear that conservatives? Dead babies for all!

Grebrook on November 8, 2006 at 4:17 PM

Grebrook just proves beyond a doubt how screwed up liberals REALLY are. Give it a couple of years. The public will look at the mental debauchery of the left and go back to where it belongs. It’s almost like dealing with a rebellious little teenager. Oh…by the way…does anyone really give a damn about Michael J. Fox and how he’s feeling today?

Michelle… Allah spewed again…

I could cut with words or pull out the verbal bat and give him a beating but I think I care more about HotAir than Allah, in fact.

Michelle… can you please keep him in line?

He might be bad for business. You wouldn’t want to alienate the principled individuals that are your following.

Opening Pandora’s box…an article just today on cbs

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/11/08/health/webmd/main2163944.shtml

“If this scenario were to be applied to humans, one would have to obtain newly generated [photoreceptor] rods from the state of development comparable to postnatal days 3-7 in the mouse [as in the study]. This is likely to be in the second trimester [in humans] and is clearly not feasible,” writes Reh. Harvesting such cells would mean taking them from a fetus or aborted fetus three to six months into a pregnancy. However, recent research suggests it might be possible to generate such cells from human embryonic stem cell lines under the right conditions.

I remember when Roe v Wade was decided…we protested, saying this opened the door to killing a baby at any time during the pregnancy, and at that time, we were told that would never happen. And just today the SCOTUS is hearing arguments on lifting the partial birth abortion ban.

So today we’re told hum cloning will never happen. Just give it a few years. We were right then, and we’re right now. It will happen.

JustTruth101 on November 8, 2006 at 9:17 PM

I live in Missouri, I voted against this Amendment. I’m very ashamed of this. I thought the people of Missouri were smarter, I guess they’re are not. Now we’re The-Clone-Me State. Geeeeezzz …. sickening

Maxx on November 8, 2006 at 10:04 PM

Just watch – they won’t stop with this. I am afraid that by the time I get old, euthenasia will be mandatory.

Ellen on November 9, 2006 at 7:56 AM

South Dakota result very interesting. There is this feeling on the right that if Rove v Wade is overturned that legislatures will be home free to ban abortion. Not so fast, people may hate abortion, but I suspect they hate the thought of the government extending its control into this area even more.
