mikeomatic,

Not going to let the thread get hijacked for off-topic thoughts, but anyone who believes in God can't suppose that He ever "doesn't listen". Prayers can be answered three ways: Yes, No, and Wait. Maybe those prayers were answered No, maybe they were answered Wait. We can't see through His eyes, so no way for any of us to say.

My point was that everything that happens on this earth is temporal, and has relatively insignificant impact on the eternal. A favorite song of mine is "Until Then":

My heart can sing when I pause to remember,
A heartache here is but a stepping stone;
Along a trail that's winding always upward,
This troubled world is not my final home.

But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I'll carry on;
Until the day my eyes behold that City,
Until the day God calls me home.

With that mindset, I can't get too worked up over unpleasant things that happen. We survived Carter, we survived Clinton, we survived Daschle, we'll survive Pelosi/Reid.

Maybe this will sound a bit radical, but perhaps the Republicans should offer Senator Lieberman the position of majority Leader in the Senate, if he sits with them.

People,
Most of these NEWLY elected libs ran as conservatives.
Now that they won. They’re going to piss off all those
who voted for them as they start to govern as LIBS.

I just hope we have the balls to tie EVERYTHING up. I'd rather see everything tied up and arguing than the Left getting one more inch of ground. They pass a bill, we need to veto it.

What sucks is the House is going to investigate everything, including if the White House lawn was watered enough.

Also, I guess we can kiss good-bye the Supreme Court. I have a hard time believing we haven't just been set back 25 years.

Kirsten is friggin HOT… *sigh*

Sacwannabe on November 8, 2006 at 11:30 AM

I posted this on the other "Dem Victory" thread this morning. It bears repeating:

One other thing. As of this morning, let’s dispense with any comments about KP being hot. I can’t look at her without seeing the leering face of Speaker Pelosi hovering over her shoulder like some dark online avatar. Not. Hot.

Kind of like I can’t look at Scarlett Johanson without seeing the ghostly presence of Woody Allen, whom she has praised repeatedly. So not hot.

New man-rule: KP is not hot! Democrats are not hot!

Got it, Allah?

Eternal? You're referring to God, aren't you.

After all the people who were undoubtedly praying for what happened yesterday not to happen, I can only conclude that God either wasn't listening or wasn't really committed to providing any help. All he really did was keep things from getting even worse.

At the same time that people voted out a pack of RINOs (a more accurate expression than voting in liberals),

Plenty of non-RINOs ate it, too. It is hard to view this election as the purging of the non-conservative Republicans.

mikeomatic,

Your arguments are not enhanced by your profanity. Using foul language as exclamation points neither endears you, nor increases the value of what you say.

While it's true that the liberals will be convinced that this is a victory for their ideology, instead of being a statement against squishy conservative compromise, getting their agenda accomplished is much easier said than done.

"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Matthew 10:28

This is temporary, some things are eternal. Keep perspective.

Well written Professor Blather. I can't avoid feeling frustrated, and a little scared. I also have to morn a bit for some seemingly good people who were voted out. I am especially frustrated about my states amendment 2, stem cell research vote. Despite all that went wrong it does no good, and probably does harm, to cry and gnash my teeth. We need to be patient, and look for opportunities to turn this defeat to our favor in the long run!

Review:

Mikeomatic: thanks for the only laughs I got yesterday or this morning.

Metro: I think AP focuses on the single and lovely KP mostly because The Boss is a) married and b) she's the boss. The inescapable fact that she is blindingly beautiful doesn't change either of the first two facts.

Professor: Word.

Mikeyboss: No! And it's not over now!

Freelancer:

The Democrats are going to try and craft a mandate from last night’s results, but they will learn that the mandate wasn’t in favor of socialism, rather against false conservatism.

They're too stupid to realize that this election wasn't about them. They won, therefore the American people love them and hate Republicans and "it's time to get started on doing all those awesome things we talked about."

They ain't gonna learn jack shit. They've never learned before.

“Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?”

It was the Australians, get it right!

georgej,

The United States remains the finest republic in the history of the world. I am as aware as anyone of the socialist agenda, but I am also aware that right now the stage is set for a lot of nothing to get done in the next two years.

After perusing the state-by-state ballot initiatives, I really don't see the American people being ready to hand over their guns. At the same time that people voted out a pack of RINOs (a more accurate expression than voting in liberals), they rejected homosexual marriage by an even larger margin, in EVERY SINGLE state that raised the issue. Had guns been an issue, the numbers would have been even clearer.

The conservative base was played for dupes for much of the last six years, and the Republican party was made to pay for it. Sure, there will be consequences, but I promise you, not as dire as you suggest.

Tell you what. On 21 January, 2009, the day after the next President is sworn into office, I'll post photos of my guns next to that day's local newspaper, and dare the Democrats to legally confiscate them. You're welcome to remind me in case you think I'll forget. I am quite certain I have nothing to fear.

Ok, so, things aren't as black as I thought. As Ace says, time to get back to work. Bleh, there's still work to be done. Next time around, I won't be on the sidelines. There'll be GOTV work I can help with in '08.

I agree with what Nancy Pelosi said. Really I do. She said that the American people voted for change and a new direction for America. That direction: down. We have to begin looking for an '08 Presidential candidate and get us back into Congress. No time to waste. Let's bite the bullet and start kicking some a$$.

When people see the Dems will do nothing for them, they'll hate them in 6 months and "Demand Change in Washington". We'll be back in '08. Just means we'll need to try harder to pass/stop legislation. The only thing that bothers me, is the ACLU and CAIR policies and the immigration legislation. But we can fight it.

Doom doom doom.

Some of you seriously need to suck it up. Life's hard; buy a helmet.

Sounding *exactly* like Democrats isn't helping anyone. Well, it's helping liberals: I'm sure they're enjoying your wailing and teeth gnashing.

Personally, I woke up in a fine mood. Things could be far, far worse. As in, President Hillary worse. As in Senator Lamont worse.

We've still got the White House (and I'm pretty sure some of you voted for that guy); we'll keep the Senate by a thin margin, or at the very worst it'll be 49-49 with Joementum in the middle and Cheney breaking ties.

And so many of the new Democrats are, in fact, New Democrats; they are (if you can take them at their word) not exactly Sheehan/Pelosi liberals.

The world moves on. The Democrats had to win, sooner or later - and history said it would be this time around. History wins.

The most significant loser last night wasn't Americans at all; it was Iraqis. In the next two years, I'd bet that Congress makes life pretty hard on them. Or maybe not. We'll see.

But I'm still optimistic about just about everything. We all knew this was going to happen. I've said for a couple years that we needed liberals in power for a little while to remind the country who and what they are.

This may turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to conservatism - and to the country as a whole. Sure, as I've noted elsewhere, my optimism assumes a Democrat-controlled government doesn't get us all killed. And I'd be lying if I said that I'm confident in their foriegn policy abilities. But we've survived much, much - *much* - worse. We'll survive this, I think.

Anyone who thinks the Democrats will hold the house for 40 years again is simply wrong. Not gonna happen. Na ga happa.

And happily, they'll now share some of the blame every time something is less than perfect in the world.

Suck it up, people. Put the helmet on. Get back in the game. Even if all you gloomers-and-doomers are absolutely right, your reaction is absolutely wrong. Playing Democrat for a day and shrieking about it on the Internet isn't going to help anyone or anything.

Get up. Continue to march. That's why we're not them, remember? Country before party? Principle before partisanship? Sound familiar? We owe it to our men and women in uniform to keep marching - because they sure are.

See you in '08.

There’s only one thing that can comfort me now: KP looking hotter than the sun.
Any of Shakespeare's first ten-or-so sonnets will provide sufficient instruction as to what use KP should make of her hotness.
