Virginia: With 86.66% reporting, Allen leads by .06%; Update: WEBB LEADS IN VIRGINIA

A difference of not quite 1,500 votes. If we lose here, we have to have Montana or Missouri.

Geraghty says it’s in the bag.

More updates coming.

Update: Arizona passed the initiative making English the official language of the state.

Update: Barnett concedes! Pessimists RULE!

Update (Ian): Flashback: Lawrence O’Donnell: Joe Lieberman Will Drop Out

Update (Ian):

VA SEN [91.53% IN]
R- ALLEN 1,042,414 49.82%
D- WEBB 1,024,756 48.98%

Update: One of our readers in Michigan e-mails to say that the referendum to ban affirmative action statewide has passed.

Update: With 20% in, Talent’s up 10 over McCaskill in Missouri. That margin won’t hold but I’d rather lead by ten early than trail.

Update: The United States has its first Muslim Congressman. And he’s a CAIR stooge.

Update: Curt Weldon has lost to Joe Sestak in Pennsylvania.

Update: Allen’s holding on but a recount is surely on the way.

Update: Is Jim Talent poised to pull a little upset? He’s still ahead by seven with 38% in.

Update: The bad news: Webb is closing very late. The good news: Talent’s still up by five with 49% in. The stem-cell initiative is also trending the conservative, albeit very slenderly — 51-49 with 52% reporting.

Update: Pessimism fever — catch it!

Update: The networks are reporting that Webb has taken a tiny lead over Allen with 99% of the precincts reporting.

Update: Worse still, some of the precincts yet to be counted are in Richmond, which is breaking heavily for Webb. On the other hand, there are about 100,000 absentee ballots in the mix. Not sure if they’ve been counted yet.

Update: The Llamas are all over it.

[crickets chirping...]

urbancenturion on November 7, 2006 at 9:57 PM

I’ve been tracking the live results of VA here: http://sbe.virginiainteractive.org/index.htm which refreshes every 2 minutes — portions of Webb country aren’t in yet (esp around Richmond), but neither are some Norfolk/VA Beach, which is heavily military and seeming to lean toward Allen.

SCARY! Fingers crossed for Allen.

eucher on November 7, 2006 at 9:58 PM

Allen’s lead back up over 20k votes with 90% in.

Physics Geek on November 7, 2006 at 9:59 PM

Allah, I’m still trying to remain “glass half full.” but my wine glass is emptying VERY FAST.

pullingmyhairout on November 7, 2006 at 10:02 PM

Yikes! It’s looking like another Washington State…

Constantine on November 7, 2006 at 10:04 PM

Ian the Flashback link doesn’t work. I keep on getting this message.: “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”

mikeyboss on November 7, 2006 at 10:16 PM

allen has had it locked since he pulled away after it being within 3k. it’s done. it’s over. the republicans retain the senate. you heard it here first. good night everbody.

paranoid on November 7, 2006 at 10:20 PM

Please update this, Allah! I just got home from class and almost had a heart attack.

Then checked Drudge. What a relief! Party time!

And look how much Talent is up in Missouri. This might actually be a good night for Republicans (relatively speaking).

januarius on November 7, 2006 at 10:24 PM

The jihadists are going to be really happy that they actually managed to get one of their moles into our Congress. Unreal.

p0s3r on November 7, 2006 at 10:40 PM

Drudge shows Webb ahead.

Patterico on November 7, 2006 at 10:41 PM

Steele might still win

Defector01 on November 7, 2006 at 10:46 PM

Barone predicts that we might know the VA winner for a month.

Physics Geek on November 7, 2006 at 10:47 PM

FYI, Congressional 25, 26, 28, 29 of NY looks like they will stay the same (includes Tom Reynolds); 24th looks like a Dem win of a vacated R seat. All were tight and NBC had touted they the R seats might be lost.

Dusty on November 7, 2006 at 10:51 PM

Why the difference between Drudge’s numbers and CNN’s? Drudge shows a 9000 vote difference and CNN a 29000 vote difference, both with 95%.

januarius on November 7, 2006 at 10:51 PM

Allah:

Granny voted.

see-dubya on November 7, 2006 at 10:56 PM

*pours pullingmyhairout some brandy, shares with everyone else*
The numbers are getting somewhat depressing.
I’m not as happy with Florida as I hoped to be :( Negron lost, and our new CFO is a Democrat! WTF?!?
CNN is already predicting the Dems to take the House. Not like I believe CNN, but still.

KeaponLaffin on November 7, 2006 at 11:12 PM

Is Jim Talent poised to pull a little upset?

Fox was saying that Missouri dems tend to hold their districts ’til late.

urbancenturion on November 7, 2006 at 11:15 PM

I might have celebrated too soon about Allen. 3% still haven’t reported and almost all of them are in counties and cities with a large Webb lead.

januarius on November 7, 2006 at 11:24 PM

Lead is now below 5,000 votes with 97.42% in.

Physics Geek on November 7, 2006 at 11:29 PM

This one is going to be a long recount either way.

greggish on November 7, 2006 at 11:32 PM

They still haven’t counted Richmond or Petersburg yet, so it looks like Allen might have lost. And you can bet if they haven’t counted them yet, they are very busy stuffing ballots.

Very depressing.

januarius on November 7, 2006 at 11:34 PM

Stay Red MO…stay red.
Turn out here was huge btw.

annoyinglittletwerp on November 7, 2006 at 11:34 PM

3,000 votes with 97.67% in.

Physics Geek on November 7, 2006 at 11:45 PM

According to CNN, 99% are counted in VA and Webb is within 3000.

Scary! If Republicans don’t win big, Dems always steal elections.

I’m getting very pessimistic.

januarius on November 7, 2006 at 11:52 PM

I quite. Everyone gets what they deserve. Let the attacks begin. I hope it’s soon. Like tomorrow and that it will be big.

marianpaul on November 7, 2006 at 11:57 PM

G F Allen Republican 1,139,550 49.43%
J H Webb Jr Democratic 1,137,793 49.36%

99.1% from VA website

SCGOPgirl on November 7, 2006 at 11:57 PM

SCGOPgirl beat me to the post.

Physics Geek on November 7, 2006 at 11:59 PM

The 1% left looks like it is from districts going for Webb in the CNN counties have been updated. I’m very nervous!

januarius on November 7, 2006 at 11:59 PM

Webb now up by about 3,000 votes.

Physics Geek on November 7, 2006 at 11:59 PM

Allen back up by 2k.

Clark1 on November 8, 2006 at 12:02 AM

I can’t get the site up!

SCGOPgirl on November 8, 2006 at 12:03 AM

When you see all the illegals voting here in Northern Virginia, this is a case where non-citizens actively changed a result.

The 1% not counted is urban and will go for Webb.

President Bush, this is what happens when you are not serious about securing the border.

januarius on November 8, 2006 at 12:04 AM

I’m still seeing Allen up by 2,000 with 99.18%

SCGOPgirl on November 8, 2006 at 12:07 AM

FNC listed Webb with 141k to Allen’s 139k. However, here are the current numbers with 99.1% in:

G F Allen Republican 1,141,753 49.44%
J H Webb Jr Democratic 1,139,885 49.36%

Bill Kristol just said that Webb had a 2500 vote lead. His number is probably more up to date than mine.

Physics Geek on November 8, 2006 at 12:08 AM

NBC12 says that Allen has a 1700 vote lead. I don’t know who is correct now.

Physics Geek on November 8, 2006 at 12:10 AM

Fox just scrolled Webb up 3,000 at 100%

SCGOPgirl on November 8, 2006 at 12:12 AM

Fox says 1,143,144 Webb 1,140,879 Allen 100%

SCGOPgirl on November 8, 2006 at 12:16 AM

How sad! Jim “Smutgate” Webb is our new senator from Virginia, and he was elected by a 2500 vote margin in which thousands of illegals voted in Northern Virginia.

Well, we can hope for Missouri.

Even more depressing and irritating: President Bush seems happy about the Democratic result because he can now push his amnesty plan.

januarius on November 8, 2006 at 12:24 AM

Hope: Absentee ballots could go for Allen if they haven’t been counted yet.

januarius on November 8, 2006 at 12:26 AM

Absentee ballots are usually counted with the precincts to which they belong. About 5% remain to be counted. Barone says that a couple of precincts still have a handful of votes to count, but it’s looking like Senator Webb.

Physics Geek on November 8, 2006 at 12:28 AM

Yea, i heard that too Januarius– really ticked me off.

SCGOPgirl on November 8, 2006 at 12:30 AM

Something’s up. Drudge just posted these new numbers:

VA SEN [99.26% IN]
R- ALLEN 1,141,753 49.36%
D- WEBB 1,148,750 49.44%

db on November 8, 2006 at 12:31 AM

Now this:
VA SEN [99.26% IN]
R- ALLEN 1,146,952 49.36%
D- WEBB 1,148,750 49.44%

db on November 8, 2006 at 12:34 AM

Transposted vote totals?

Loudoun county officials going home for the night w/o counting the votes??

Can’t say I’m surprised. Frickin’ Loudoun county… am sorry for every red cent I ever paid into that place.

RD on November 8, 2006 at 12:42 AM

Fox just reported that one precinct has shut down without counting all the votes and that it is a fairly conservative precinct. I don’t see this one being over for a few weeks.

n2sooners on November 8, 2006 at 12:42 AM

SCGOP girl-

On Fox News the Allen camp has stated that the networks transposed the final figures; it was actually Allen that was ahead of Webb by 5000 votes.

Can anyone put that beyond the networks?

Anyone, great news, and I’ll go to bed now with hope.

januarius on November 8, 2006 at 12:43 AM

Transposted vote totals?

Er, transposed vote totals. Ostensibly Allen’s votes put into Webb’s column by mistake – some several thou.

RD on November 8, 2006 at 12:44 AM

Frickin’ Loudoun county… am sorry for every red cent I ever paid into that place.

Good neighbors, great memories… just inept county gov’t.

RD on November 8, 2006 at 12:46 AM

From Commonwealth of Va: 18 precincts unreported–also provisional ballots. Not over, but not encouraging either. Thanks, all you schlubs who think it’s OK for illegals to get a frickin’ driver’s license. Geez!!!

hillbillyjim on November 8, 2006 at 12:47 AM

Whatever happens, we move forward. Even with Dems in control of the House and maybe the Senate, I’m just glad that the election is over. I’ve been sick up and fed with this stuff for too long; we have not touched on politics on our blog.
It can destroy your soul to focus on such venom and bile day after day. Listening to election lies can give you cancer.
As soon as you can, shut off the internet and TV for a couple days and get some rest. It’ll do you good, and yes,I’m going to be following my own advice.

Doug on November 8, 2006 at 1:21 AM

LOUD NOISES!!!!

x95b10 on November 8, 2006 at 1:23 AM

When taxes go back up I’m going to have to work more overtime :’(

sirmyth on November 8, 2006 at 1:25 AM

RD,

Er, transposed vote totals. Ostensibly Allen’s votes put into Webb’s column by mistake – some several thou.

Wishful thinking, most likely. I don’t see much hope there anymore. Allen’s toast.

Spiny Norman on November 8, 2006 at 2:01 AM

All we liberals are going to hug a conservative (in the mold of Hannity when Bush won) today so you guys don’t feel so bad about:
the proposition votes in SD and Arizona, the house, and the senate.

LWordLover on November 8, 2006 at 9:15 AM

The United States has its first Muslim Congressman. And he’s a CAIR stooge.

And what high-profile Muslim is not a CAIR stooge?
