Looks like someone took “punching in” their vote to a new level!

Olbgasm on November 7, 2006 at 6:19 PM

Well, I’m back to being officially depressed.

Just got back from voting.

Live in a VERY conservative district. Historically republicans are 75-80% of the registered voters in this county.

The Poll workers were saying that turnout so far is less than half of what it was the last two national elections at by this time.

I hope the people are just leaving it to the last minute after work to confound the pollsters.

LegendHasIt on November 7, 2006 at 6:25 PM

Just voted and had to share this story…

I got out of work and promptly headed to the polls to vote. I live in Connecicut’s district 1, a contentious district for Lamont. As I was walking in towards the elementry school gym, I passed on my right a gaggle of canidate supporters. I keep my hair shaved high and tight and wear my utility boots still after 6 years in the navy. I saw this blur coming from the supporters and I looked over to see Ned Lamont sticking out his hand and introducing himself. Scared the crap out of me at first, I thought I was being bum rushed. I paused, stared, and then thought better of saying a few choice words. I left his out stretched hand in the air as I gave him the cold shoulder. Just a second later I passed a Lieberman Supporter who called “Vote Joe!”. I gave a quick thumbs up and heard the Leiberman supporters errupt in laughter at the sight of it. When I came out of the gym containing the polls, Lamont was long gone.

BrentS on November 7, 2006 at 4:52 PM

I don’t know Brent. Ever hear the expression six of one, half a dozen…. Knocking a screaming lib for another screaming lib.. I dunno.. I’m a CT voter too and I planned to vote Liebs but couldn’t do it.. I voted for Alan S. I also know I’m not alone. I’ve been posting on this subject a lot lately. I would love your comments.

RobertCSampson on November 7, 2006 at 7:03 PM

bspoogeferd, I just found out Kane County, Ill is open til 8:30 due to ballot issues.
I just got the automated call now.
Hmmmmmm I didn’t see any problems, folks still coming and going. Mabye I’ll stop by and see for myself.

CBarker on November 7, 2006 at 7:07 PM

Well Legend, I live in a predominantly conservative area as well, and our turnout is even higher than it was in 2004, as of 6pm.

Hopefully your district is the exception, rather than the norm.

webproze on November 7, 2006 at 7:11 PM

I’m in Cobb County GA..voted at 4:30pm..a very steady line of voters..30 min to vote..
We have a $40,000,000,000.00 perpetual bond issue on this ballot…
top that if you can

Marvin on November 7, 2006 at 7:19 PM

Voted in Tampa, FL mid-afternoon. Took about 10 mins. No line, but full, all the machines were in use.
Yea, the new machines are so simple a retarded chimp could use em.
Still sad the 1st question asked is ‘English or Spanish?’ *sigh* I speak American dammit!
Except for Harris probably losing, I feel pretty good about Florida. I hope all voters read the half dozen or so Amendments on the ballot though. Most were just expensive, one was downright dangerous(And seemingly unconstitutional, but that’s just me)

It was very cloudy and ugly today with the promise of rain to come. I was hoping for downpours early afternoon when the dems-too-lazy-to-work-for-a-living crowd roll out of bed.

It rained like a son of a bitch.

Thanks, Mr. Rove.

Thanking Karl Rove “twice” apparently isn’t enough!

doingwhatican on November 7, 2006 at 7:58 PM

How can Fox news call it for Casey with 3%precincts reporting 48-52% when they won’t call for Corker with 57-43 and 3% reporting? just a thought We aren’t done yet!!!

Bobnormal on November 7, 2006 at 8:44 PM

Bobnormal, I agree! With all their handwaving and explination I am still unsure about what the straw is that makes them break and call a race.

I posted on another thread about how I find it unbelievable that I’m seeing the trend I’m seeing… the Dems have NO actionable things in their plan for Iraq, and if we pull out we’ll be seen as weak and that insurgency works; capital gains will go up to normal tax levels and crash the economy, and the 10% of the population of Mexico that we currently host will be permanently ensconced also to the detriment of our economy and culture. Sad day if this pans out this way…

linlithgow on November 7, 2006 at 9:16 PM

They did it AGAIN! Steele 55% Cardin 44% 1% reporting sad sad for FNC!

*sigh* I was born and raised in Connecticut, tho a Republican I be. I felt that a vote for the Republican candidate, Alan Scleshinger (spelling), would almost be a vote thrown away in this state. If Scleshinger had a fair chance I would have given him the vote in an instant, but alas the lesser of two evils will have to do. Unfortunately the RNC pretty much bailed on him so that he didn’t have nearly as many resources for the race. Thinking about the $12 million that Lamont threw into the race of his personal fortune makes the vote for Leiberman a little easier, but spiteful noneless.

BrentS on November 7, 2006 at 10:25 PM

Murtha is beating up on Irey. Thus I officially end my brief career as a political pundit. The Republican “undertow” I guaranteed was not to be. (Though a Demrocratic “wave” is still a shaky proposition.) In olden times I would’ve had to perform harakiri, so never being able to make political predictions again is a small price to pay. My fingers are crossed that the Republicans will hold on. It’s going to be a long afternoon.

itomania on November 7, 2006 at 10:48 PM

I know what you mean, BrentS… not in Connecticut but I was torn about how to feel about Lieberman. Lamont would have been dreadful and it does help to have a pro-Iraq war supporter in the Senate, even if he is liberal in a lot of other ways. On the other hand, Lieberman *is* a Democrat.

Interesting observation, by the way… Chafee and DeWine were both pro-amnesty supporters of the President’s illegal immigration plan. Did that play a part?

linlithgow on November 7, 2006 at 10:57 PM

Grab your wallets

conservativecaveman on November 7, 2006 at 11:00 PM

I know the Dems will spin this as a huge victory, but historically the ’six year itch’ is bad for the party in power. If the Dems only get a few seats in the House after they hammered the Iraq war so soundly it isn’t a decisive victory, even though they will trumpet it.

Even if it’s a margin of one though, the damage will be done.

linlithgow on November 7, 2006 at 11:13 PM

Can we just wait until ALL the votes are counted? don’t get stuck on stupid OTOH maybe we should whine about cheating, and overthrow the Gov.just like the Dems but we have the guns,
HAHAHAHAAA!

My vent today is that for the last couple of days on Hot Air in the “Predictions” and “Polls” areas, the vast majority of people who read this website were inexplicably predicting that the Republicans were going to be holding both houses, some bold enough to predict gains!

What were these people thinking? I’m surprised that we’re probably going to lose the Senate, but I at least knew we were losing the House. Did the ostensibly bright people on this site make predictions of what they WANTED to happen and simply ignored every single pundit and pollster (both liberal and conservative) who said the Republicans were in trouble in this election, especially in the House?

Of course that’s what happened. As I can’t stand listening to knee-jerk liberals, it is disappointing that there are so many people on this site who have little objectivity on such basic things like understanding the national mood before a major election.

asc85 on November 8, 2006 at 8:08 AM

asc85,

I expected to lose the House, hoped we wouldn’t. And sometimes down here in Texas it is hard to gauge the mood of the eastern or midwestern states. Local corruption issues (i.e. Ohio) and other scandals sometimes don’t make it onto our radar here, at least not the seriousness of them. I’m hoping that this defeat wasn’t all about the Iraq war because if we cut and run…well I don’t want to think about it but a good guy from up North of the border has thought about it and I can’t say I totally disagree with his gloomy outlook: David Warren Online

vcferlita on November 8, 2006 at 10:10 AM

In my very blue district there was a large turnout despite the cold rain yet no enthusiasm. To the end I heard liberals saying they didn’t know who to vote for but they would not vote for DeVos, the GOP candidate. Of course that gave them only one other choice.

Our liberal democrat congressman Dingell ran unopposed and got 88 percent of the vote. Dingell is the Congressman who couldnt get himself to speak out against Hezbollah whose leader Nazrallah ends his speeches with his motto: “Death to America”. (Video of Nasrallah leading his chant)

Meanwhile, the conservative referendums passed (affirmative action, eminent domain) and the liberal ines failed. The voters were conservative on issues not candidates. Reagan republicans are out there but the party did not solicit them.

IMHO Bush had two choices, win the election or the party, and he chose to lock up the GOP at the expense of the election. The litmus test for Bush was immigration, the word that could not be spoken in this election, the 800 lb gorilla in the closet.

We have been getting a big dose of Dingell and Conyers for years. Now the nation gets to enjoy these posers.

entagor on November 8, 2006 at 10:16 AM

Yes, this is what comes of refusing to fight someone who calls themselves your enemy. President Bush wanted to work with a group of politicians who were dead set on working against him, and he ended up only appeasing those who would have him impeached.

In the process he betrayed his base on serious issues. Failing to use the veto pen is first on the list of marks against him. He said from the moment he took office that if a Republican majority sent him a bill he’d sign it. He signed McCain/Feingold while saying he knew it was bad law, and that surely the Supreme Court would shoot it down. They refused to review a law submitted by Congress and signed by the President. Passing the buck is not statesmanship or leadership. Signing every spending bill that came along wasn’t wise either.

Bush is a good man and a decent President, but the Big Tent philosophy as managed by this administration is a mistake. Hopefully the party will identify this and start to listen to the values base that got them there in the first place. Gore wasn’t defeated in 2000 by George W. Bush, he was defeated by the Clinton scandals. Kerry wasn’t defeated in 2004 by Bush, he was defeated by his own anti-American treason.

The Republican party needs to consolidate on a foundation worth fighting for; Border security, traditional family values, limited government with better recognition of states’ authority. Failing that, the party is a house built on sand, and of cards.

Freelancer on November 8, 2006 at 11:30 AM

Thanks for posting me in the Texas list above. I finally have posting privileges! So when’s the party?

Technically, I guess we Texans have more to celebrate than our friends in other, less politically fortunate states; but somehow I don’t feel like throwing a shindig at my place(as we say in these parts).

Is it just me, or do any of the rest of you think these comments would be better served if we had a preview or edit option? I’ve only posted 4-5 times and already left out a word in one comment and only noticed it as my finger left the submit button. Also…is there a way to quickly find all of your own comments?
