Did the White House doctor the video of Bush’s “mission accomplished” speech?
posted at 3:35 pm on November 7, 2006 by Allahpundit
Here’s the latest crap being sold as proof that BUSH LIED! Watch this video, which is currently at #2 on YouTube among “News & Blog” clips. It’s 80 seconds long.
Good. Now here’s the photo that debunks it. I wish I could take credit for finding it but that honor belongs to a Farker named “jarrett” who marked it up and posted it in this thread earlier today.

Here’s another shot, taken from a low angle.

Finally, here’s the actual video of the speech on the White House site. I didn’t have time to watch it all, but I did skim; the camera angle appears to remain head-on throughout, and the furthest the camera pulls back that I saw is at the very beginning. As you can see, the bottom of the yellow “E” in jarrett’s photo is barely visible at the top of the screen through the lattice. The “Mission Accomplished” banner is nowhere near being in frame.
Click the image to watch.
If anyone takes the time to watch the whole thing, e-mail me and let me know if the camera ever pulls back to a wide shot and I’ll correct this. It certainly doesn’t at the beginning or the end.

That’s it?
Pretty lame, but look at the people making a big deal of such things.
Remember South Park, 1/4 of Americans are retarded.
chilipequin on November 7, 2006 at 3:43 PM
What a crock, it’s just a question of framing the picture.
Sit down and shut up, you son-of-a-botch!

1. So the video was shot at a different angle than all the pictures were shot at, so what? That proves that the Bush administration controls the minds of the photogs? Or camermen?
2. The owners of the video obviously want only complimentary comments because any comments posted have to be approved prior to being posted. Didn’t see one negative comment when I reviewed it, posted mine, and am now ‘waiting’ for it to be approved.

Dumbest. Conspiracy theory. Ever.
I mean, what’s the point?
Bryan on November 7, 2006 at 3:57 PM
Only some of them.
Most of those people are too lazy to vote or they believe that the government is so powerful that the elections have already been stolen by the dumb, yet evil genius “chimp”, aka Bush.
I do believe the GOP will stay in power and that the voter apathy will only increase because of this. This will then be guaranteeing future GOP victories as the 1/4 retarded Americans will stay home in future elections. Yesssss…(rubs hands with evil grin)

The ramblings over at Fark are typical of a kool-aide-drinking, tin-foil-hat-wearing, can’t-have-an-opinion-that’s-not-tied-to-blind-hatred, towing-the-party-line mentality.
They seriously need to stop seeing vipers in every room and get on with their lives.

Just seeing things…
but you see them too, right?
seejanemom on November 7, 2006 at 4:05 PM
Clearly, they did. Such a flagrant violation of our civil rights must not be allowed to go unpunished. At the very least, this is an impeachable offense, if not criminal. Since this took place in both the White House, and overseas, involving Iraq it is an international incident, which means the UN’s International Criminal Court will probably have to get involved.
Rest assured, Nancy Pelosi will not let this go unpunished. This will definitely be one of the articles of impeachment that she will pursue in a fairminded and non-partisan way, once she becomes Speaker of the House.
Also, the fact that as Speaker of the House, Nancy would be third in line from the presidencey will have no bearing at all on her decision to proceed with impeaching both Bush and Cheny. Nay, only a fairminded pursuit of truth, justice, and the American way motivates Nancy Pelosi.
You go girl!

Hey, it feeds their hatred.
We still haven’t figured out how Bush is able to do all this evil trickery and be the dumbest man on earth. Oh, that’s right, he’s got Cheney and Rove. Right.
Well, I still want to know who dropped a chocolate hot-dog in the urinal, um-kay?

I got it the bar is to cover/allow the newsrooms to add their banners.
Gwillie on November 7, 2006 at 4:08 PM
Looks like a 2.5:1 zoom on a tripod mounted high-def 16:9 camera. I think you’re seeing the widest there is at the beginning and end, and the black bar on the bottom is just there so it’s not split between the top and bottom.
Fruitcakes.

Now that’s funny!
Pablo on November 7, 2006 at 4:23 PM
Of course, nobody on the right side can respond, because the original video poster is moderating all the comments and not allowing rebuttals. Typical speech suppressing Lib.

Digg Here
This is typical digg for you
Out of the top 10 stories that make the political section, 8 of them will be anti-republican lies and smears.
Digg has become the liberal soapbox. It has been invaded by liberal liars and illusionists that want to spread their ideology through lies.

Ok, bumbarsed conspiracy theorist…
Why was that black bar there?
IT WAS A PLACEHOLDER FOR THE NETWORK TELEVISION’S STATION ID, HEADING/TITTLE, AND NEWS TICKER!!!
Please tell me I’m not the only one who knows this….
Mazztek on November 7, 2006 at 5:30 PM
It’s obviously not the same angle.
Mark Jaquith on November 7, 2006 at 5:32 PM
Isn’t this guy’s allegation proceeding on a false assumption? The speechwould have always been tight in on the president. the photo would have been a more general shot. He assumes the speech showed “mission accomplished” from the beginning of the speech till the end. I do not remember that to be the case.
I’d need to see the original (non whitehouse) version of this speech to see if it was upshifted. I doubt it, though. the blackline seems to be the placeholder for news networks chiron graphics.
lorien1973 on November 7, 2006 at 6:00 PM
But that doesn’t matter to this numb-nut.
Pretty Lame. Indeed.
Lawrence on November 7, 2006 at 6:00 PM
Bush is not running for office. Please see the memo.
While our hero wallows in minutia of the conspiracy moment, one has to ask “Do you have a life?”
Kini on November 7, 2006 at 6:55 PM
That speech had more purposes than what the press remembers. The USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) had just completed an extended deployment of nearly ten months, the longest in over 30 years for an aircraft carrier. They had been turned back toward the Gulf partway through what was supposed to have been the first leg of their homeward journey.
The Mission Accomplished banner was NOT about the IRAQ war. Understand that it was bare days before that day in May 2003 that we gained full control of the war theater. The banner represents a hearty well-done to the crew of the Lincoln Battle Group and Carrier Air Wing Fourteen (Fortuna Favet Fortibus!).
Let the libs attempt to make hay out of whatever they wish. Servicemen returning home to a pat on the back from their President is a great thing. Ask me sometime about 02 September 1995.
Freelancer on November 7, 2006 at 7:05 PM
What does that have to do with anything? Absolutely nothing!
Wade on November 7, 2006 at 7:10 PM
Sorry, but that placeholder theory doesn’t fly because a solid black bar would not allow for the transparent animated overlays put in by the networks. News video is shot to allow for head-room, talk space, and space for a lower third graphic.
The bar is either there to cover a graphic inserted by a news agency, or the result of an improper image sizing of a widescreen format into a 4:3 aspect output file. The wide shots above prove that this isn’t a conspiracy, but tell try telling that to the tin-foil brigade.
loki1947 on November 8, 2006 at 1:19 AM
Yeah, I saw Murray and Anthony behind Greg there. So the question is now… Where’s Jeff? Better check all the engine intakes and exhausts. A guy in purple may be sleeping in there!

Loki, Ah! Covering the news tickers/ID!
Speaking of tinfil hats, Michelle’s Hot Air outtakes has her throwing a balled up hat at someone off camera. The reaction is, she probably hit him in the eye!

The BSD sufferers over at Digg are still posting items comparing 9/11 to the Reichstadt fire, thus proving Bush made 9/11 happen.
