(h/t Hot Air’s Election chatroom)

Congressman John Lewis (D-GA) called on his constituents to vote Democrat on election day, threatening “we must vote for Democrats on election day” because “your very life may depend on it”. You’ll have to hear it to believe it.

You know, it might be nice to have a volume control on the player you embed. Flash isn’t the answer to all multimedia either…

Are you sure that’s real? That is soooooo over the top!

see-dubya on November 7, 2006 at 5:31 PM

and pdiddypoppadiddypop tried that crap, too. They only used it once.

Mazztek on November 7, 2006 at 5:31 PM

Was he drunk or on drugs? He was slurring whatever words he was trying to use. And this was the take they went with?

stonemeister on November 7, 2006 at 5:32 PM

I think I just committed suicide.

DAT60A3 on November 7, 2006 at 5:32 PM

And sharks are still swimming the routes of ancient slave ships looking for an easy meal.

Valiant on November 7, 2006 at 5:34 PM

He sounds like he’s being waterboarded…I’ve got to get to Jowja and help ! ….. ……..err the voters that is. Vote or Die!

dardar on November 7, 2006 at 5:39 PM

Is that Sebastion from the little mermaid?

dardar on November 7, 2006 at 5:41 PM

I am no history buff but….. weren’t the Democrats *against* the civil rights act?

CrazyFool on November 7, 2006 at 5:42 PM

Just heard it on Hannity.

Pathetic.

JammieWearingFool on November 7, 2006 at 5:42 PM

Uncontested in GA-5. Good times. I’m glad I got bumped to GA-13 in redistricting so I didn’t have to do another write-in.

todd-atl on November 7, 2006 at 5:43 PM

Lewis always came off as the jolly type.

JammieWearingFool on November 7, 2006 at 5:43 PM

QUESTION: What is a “danjuss sicherashun”?

QUESTION: What are “eekl rights”?

Lone Star on November 7, 2006 at 5:44 PM

If I didn’t know better, I’d say he was about to go newkulerr!

BigOrangeAxe on November 7, 2006 at 5:50 PM

I can see why more and more black voters and serious black politicians are moving to the Republican party. This man obviously assumes that the people he represents have no intelligence at all. The DNC must be terrified to resort to stuff like this.

Buzzy on November 7, 2006 at 5:52 PM

Yeah, that slogan worked out pretty good for Puff Daddy too.

EFG on November 7, 2006 at 5:53 PM

Ahhh yes, the Vote or Die tactic. The weirdest thing about this phenomenon is that once you die, you always vote Democrat, as shown in this in-depth analysis.

NTWR on November 7, 2006 at 6:00 PM

Yeah and the republicans us scare tactics. The white man is out to getchya! Never mind the thousands rioting and killing over cartoons, chanting “death to america”.

dougless on November 7, 2006 at 6:03 PM

That was just painful to listen to. I give up all claims to ever having a southern twang to my Kentucky accent and bow to the master. I sound like a Kennedy compared to Lewis!

Kadnine on November 7, 2006 at 6:04 PM

SEE-DUBYA– it is real..it is on the candidates website..www.johneaves.us

labwrs on November 7, 2006 at 6:07 PM

oops..The Eaves ppl sent it to the local Atlanta HipHop stations and the radio talkshows on WGST picked it up and have played it all day. A LOT of people in Atlanta are FURIOUS..that is what is going on..this candidate is running against a while Republican for a seat on the Fulton County Commission

labwrs on November 7, 2006 at 6:08 PM

Ahh…a very intelligent message for the Democratic base.

YOUZ GOTTA BALLEIVE!!!

Golfer_75093 on November 7, 2006 at 6:11 PM

Focus on the future John Eaves? Hate to rain on your parade pal, but in 2006, the only people harming black people are induhhviduals like you. That focus only on the past, with no looking to the future.

anetmabo on November 7, 2006 at 6:13 PM

I think he might have meant to say “vote dem and die.” Our life might depend on it if we let dim(wit)s run the country. Dems don’t believe there is any problem with “the religion of peace” in our country. Tell that to the French!

Vanquisher on November 7, 2006 at 6:14 PM

They keep forgetting they don’t control the media anymore…not to mention they keep forgetting it’s not 1950 anymore either!

SouthernGent on November 7, 2006 at 6:18 PM

I’m focused on the future…a future where my life depends on who I vote for. That makes me want to vote .. uh.. democrat? HAHAHAHAHA

lorien1973 on November 7, 2006 at 6:28 PM

…not to mention they keep forgetting it’s not 1950 anymore either!

…1950?!

This paternalistic pap dates back at least to the 1850’s, Beecher Stowe, Finney, and to Garrison burning the Constitution because it countenanced slavery. “We need to help those who can’t help themselves”, updated to 2006, when their constituents can most certainly help themselves.

Some evil tyrant is set to turn back the clock…back to the days of Jim Crow and stepping off the pavement to make way for Missy and Massa.

Just *WHAT* do they think that the South is today? More to the point, *WHAT* sort of weak, spineless, grovelling, cowardly peasants do they think that their black neighbors are?!

This is infamous…and will hardly receive a blip on the MSM radar….

Puritan1648 on November 7, 2006 at 6:29 PM

Actually I think he means if you are black you should vote Dem…if you are not black you have nothing to worry about because the Republicans are all racist and stuff.

EnochCain on November 7, 2006 at 6:30 PM

You would think that a congressman who genuinely had the best interests of his constituents at heart would want them to be educated and smart enough to understand the basics of how government works. But then if they did of course they would recognize that what he just said was pure bullshit. Better to keep ‘em dumb and scared so they’ll keep voting for the very leaders who are betraying them more than the white man ever could.

infidel4life on November 7, 2006 at 6:31 PM

I aproved this add because we are focused on the future. We just use the past to scare the sh*t out of you

Gwillie on November 7, 2006 at 6:40 PM

Allah Pundit posted a “vote Republican or die” ad the other day.

Let no absurdity go unanswered by equivalent absurdity.

Mark Jaquith on November 7, 2006 at 6:46 PM

WHATCHU TAWKIN’ ‘BOUT, JOHN LEWIS?

SouthernGent on November 7, 2006 at 6:55 PM

Mark, at least the ad AP posted was not by or endorsed by or approved by a Republican candidate. It was from a Conservative group.

NTWR on November 7, 2006 at 6:55 PM

dumkopf!!!!!!!!!

Defector01 on November 7, 2006 at 7:00 PM

I just glad his girlfriend, Cynthia, is gone from Congress. These 2 made me ashamed to live in GA.

KINI
I understand what you are saying and I am one of the ones who tipped HotAir to this today. I am disgusted, disappointed and APPALLED..not to mention ANGRY about this because I VOTED for the Mayor involved. Having said all this, the reason John Lewis speaks the way he does is because he was attacked in Selma during the marches there. He suffered such violence it resulted in a lifelong speech impediment. Be ANGRY at the ad..be ANGRY that he participated in something so low and slimey, but please dont make fun of his speech..he was walking across a bridge and got attacked, beaten and deformed simply because he wanted to be equal. That he stooped to this, be ANGRY, but please, understand and dont mock. That makes us just like the “kos kids”..ignorant and mocking.

labwrs on November 7, 2006 at 8:17 PM

This ain’t the “race card”, it’s the whole damn deck! One of the most disgusting campaign ads I have ever heard.

Their was another ad playing in Fulton County that included the best parts of this and had Andrew Young and Shirley Franklin chiming in. It was the talk of Atlanta this afternoon. Shirley Franklin has been above the baiting and has been a pretty damn good mayor so far, I really hope this was not done with her full knowledge and approval.

B Moe on November 7, 2006 at 8:48 PM

I saw this episode of South Park. It was awesome!

Professor Blather on November 8, 2006 at 1:09 AM

As someone who lives in Fulton County, I find this statement and Representative Lewis shameful. But the greater shame is on the Republican Party which has not put a candidate against John Lewis since the 2000 election.

gmaninatl on November 8, 2006 at 8:23 AM

Yeah, because if the Pubs control all three branches of govt, they’ll be lynching blacks all over the country!

What’s that? They HAD all three branches for for HOW long? Oh, well uh, they were PLANNING to lynch blacks IF they KEPT all three branches blah blah blah

Meanwhile, somewhere in a cave… “This is a glorious day for islam my brothers! We have terrorized the infidels enough to appease us! We are half way there!”
