AP, NBC, ABC: Dems win control of House; Update: It gets worse

Pessimism, baby, pessimism. I await the concession call from Dean Barnett.

Oh well. How bad could it be?

pelosi-silly.jpg

Update: Much, much worse.

Update (Bryan): If the Bush administration really thinks the Dems are coming to town to work with them on comprehensive immigration reform amnesty, they’re crazy. Or just putting a brave face on a very bad situation. But they’re doing that in the worst way possible, taking the base that they have taken for granted and kicking us after a bad loss that can plausibly be blamed to a great extent on the administration itself. Not a good move. Bush might as well switch parties, because he’s cutting himself off from his core supporters.

Update (Bryan): In the comments, clean up the language or you get banned. This site isn’t a bathroom wall.

Eep!

BelchSpeak on November 7, 2006 at 11:20 PM

Will sheehan give the democrat response to the radio address each week now? Chavez eating dinner with the leadership? President Tom giving speeches in the House, instead of Harvard? God bless the democrats; make the wishes of your islamic overlords come true.

lorien1973 on November 7, 2006 at 11:20 PM

My dinner just tried to swim upstream.

Physics Geek on November 7, 2006 at 11:21 PM

Dangit, Allah!

Do you want me to sleep at all tonight?

I need to drink another glass of wine after that picture.

Slublog on November 7, 2006 at 11:21 PM

Chomsky will write policy for the next 2 years LOL

lorien1973 on November 7, 2006 at 11:24 PM

Let the investigations and impeachments begin!

mojojojo on November 7, 2006 at 11:24 PM

Don’t do it mikeomatic, we need you to vote the dems out in ‘08!

mojojojo on November 7, 2006 at 11:26 PM

dooooooooooooooom!

But we could still hold the Senate. Yay!

frankj on November 7, 2006 at 11:26 PM

Frank, the house was the one passing reasonable legistlation. The senate was doing the democrats’ work for them. I hope Steele wins, still *crossing fingers* and I hope the house is really tight (1-4 seat majority), which would prevent pelosi from taking the speaker position. That might be a nice consolation prize.

lorien1973 on November 7, 2006 at 11:28 PM

The picture on the front page says it all.. Pelosi and Sheehan. That’s the future of the House.

Enoxo on November 7, 2006 at 11:28 PM

Maybe the republicans will respect their base in 08 instead of abandoning them.

jman on November 7, 2006 at 11:29 PM

Three cheers for gridlock! Hip-hip HOORAY!!

Hoodlumman on November 7, 2006 at 11:29 PM

I hope W has ink in his veto pen.

Iblis on November 7, 2006 at 11:30 PM

Why didn’t you include the accompanying Nancy Pelosi sound track. You know. The one where she says:
“Fly my pretties, FLY!”

CyberCipher on November 7, 2006 at 11:30 PM

YIKES!!! That’s a terrifying picture.

As for the Democrat take over of the House, keep in mind the “Blue Dog Democrats” who have likely won seats today. Yes, many if not most are probably too liberal for my tastes but there are conservative Democrats so this take over might (or so I hope) not be as terrifying as it seems on the surface.

I’m trying to find links to back up this little theory of mine. I’ll post them when/IF I find them. Perhaps KP will write about it if true.

I guess I’m lacking Allah’s pessimism… for now. It all really depends on the Senate now which Republicans are just barely holding.

Yakko77 on November 7, 2006 at 11:30 PM

Egad! That photo of Sheehan and Pelosi is scary!

vcferlita on November 7, 2006 at 11:30 PM

AP,
I’m blogging from the Golden Gate Bridge (past the far west rail). Trying to stay positive. Do you want a report?
P.S. Verizon wireless card reception is excellent!

CanaryinaCoalMine on November 7, 2006 at 11:31 PM

As I’ve been saying, I hate this country. We deserve whatever’s coming.

marianpaul on November 7, 2006 at 11:24 PM

You are mistaken, marianpaul. I do not deserve anything that you may imagine is coming, and I’ll thank you not to drip your slimy self-hatred on me.

Kralizec on November 7, 2006 at 11:31 PM

I hope that Nancy does win party leadership. And that with the Dems in charge they totally screw up the country. Mayb then we can find some Republicans with backbone who will finally do what’s right to put us back in the right direction!

Scorched_Earth on November 7, 2006 at 11:34 PM

Dean’s Response:

“Yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!”

mojojojo on November 7, 2006 at 11:37 PM

That is the ugliest picture ever. Two whores.

marianpaul on November 7, 2006 at 11:37 PM

Jiggity,

Well, we can forget about winning the war in Iraq. They finally got their Vietnam.

Jiggity on November 7, 2006 at 11:37 PM

(Aside from this part, all I can do about the news is the following:)

*sigh*

Cutty S. on November 7, 2006 at 11:37 PM

Maybe the republicans will respect their base in 08 instead of abandoning them.

jman on November 7, 2006 at 11:29 PM

Yeah, this might be a blessing in disguise. Many of us have complained about some Republicans who weren’t faithful to their conservative base. It might be better for us to take a hit this election and hopefully come back stronger in ‘08. I have faith on that. Conservative America isn’t dead, not by a long shot. In fact, I hope the liberals think we’re down and out, it’ll make our comeback all the more satisfying.

Yakko77 on November 7, 2006 at 11:38 PM

Dean Barnett said something earlier that I woke up thinking this morning – if this country could survive four years with Jimmy Carter in charge and thousands of Soviet Nukes pointed at us, we’ll make it through 2 years of Speaker Pelosi.

Dudley Smith on November 7, 2006 at 11:39 PM

MY EYES!! MY EYES!!Those pictures are going to give me nightmares!! I’m a bad loser “democrats suck”!!!!! I can’t even look or listen to them Nancy, Hillary, the idiot dems from Michigan. Dems in any position of power May God have mercy on the U.S.!!

ChrisIansNana on November 7, 2006 at 11:41 PM

Yakko: You poor fool. You actually think that with the MSM on their side, the Democrats have a chance of ever losing control again?

Welcome to the nightmare.

mikeomatic on November 7, 2006 at 11:43 PM

Yakko: You poor fool. You actually think that with the MSM on their side, the Democrats have a chance of ever losing control again?

Yep, for the next ten years, everything bad will be spun to be “Bush’s fault,” or “a result of prior failed Republican policy” even if the Dems are really responsible.

mojojojo on November 7, 2006 at 11:47 PM

Yakko77

Yep, it’s going to take an overhaul of who is in charge though. Perhaps we need people making decisions for the Republicans that don’t hate most of their voting base for starters?

Please understand that I’m not happy that Democrats get control but I’m more happy than I would be if Republicans continued on as is. The message has been sent. Will they listen or not? Will we see a return to true conservatism or the same nonsense we’ve been seeing?

We just have to make it through a couple of years of this if Republicans are willing to mend fences with the people they’ve taken for granted for years.

Benaiah on November 7, 2006 at 11:50 PM

Yep, for the next ten years, everything bad will be spun to be “Bush’s fault,” or “a result of prior failed Republican policy” even if the Dems are really responsible.

mojojojo on November 7, 2006 at 11:47 PM

Sorry, but we are not going to let them off the hook that easy.

thirteen28 on November 7, 2006 at 11:51 PM

I’m feeling kinda heartbroken and somewhat fearful at the thought of Pelosi being the leader of anything…but Republicans & Democrats come and go that’s the cycle of politics. Our house seat here in the bible belt was lost to a Democrat but, he’s a conservative democrat and hopefully he will stay that way while in DC if Pelosi don’t take him out back and kick his @$$.

ekuspa40 on November 7, 2006 at 11:52 PM

Its september 10th 2001 all over again

William Amos on November 7, 2006 at 11:54 PM

C’mon folks. Settle down. You’re going to kill yourself? “I hate this country”? Quit acting like democrats! I know, I know…I’m not happy about it either. Alcee F****** Hastings as committee head of INTELLIGENCE!?! The return of Darth Vader Waxman, Rangel, and the rest of the tin foil hat crowd chills the blood.

But sometimes we have to take a step back to take two steps forward. Now the dhimmis get two full years to show America how deranged they are, just in time for the next presidential election. That’s the far left-wing dhimmis. From what I’ve been hearing lately, a lot of these new dems are conservative and/or moderates–hardly the sort that will back up the radicals at every turn. If you think we’ve had problems with RINOs, perhaps the dems will have similar headaches over DINOs.

Too, it looks increasingly likely the grown ups will hold on to the Senate. Just barely, mind you, but it’s better than total defeat.

Buck up, my friends. We’re still in the game, and we’re not going to let this country go down the tubes because of Nancy Pelosi and her stormtroopers. At least I’m not. And I know Michelle won’t. Nor Allah, La Shawn Barber, or the millions of other denizens of the mighty Internet.

In fact, it’s going to be mighty interesting to see the New Media tear the dhimmis a new you know what. Remember, these jokers haven’t been in power in the House since the Internet kicked into high gear. Some of these kooks are going to get up there and start spewing their crazy garbage only to discover it ain’t the same old ballgame. I hope, and fully expect, Hot Air to document these outrages. Fox News will do their part as well.

Hang tough, people!

jaleach on November 7, 2006 at 11:56 PM

Maybe if every right-wing radio talk show host didn’t act like a bunch of spoiled brats for the last week of campaign, arrogantly assuming Americans were so stupid and fickle that they would change their vote from Dem to Rep because of a stupid remark by John Kerry, just maybe, the voters might have given a shit what you mindless conservatives idiots think.

Game over, losers. You had Fox News pumping Michael Steele as hard as they could for the last six months, trying to make him out to be a Republican martyr. Wasn’t enough.

You claimed Ted Strickland was connected with NAMBLA.

Didn’t work.

You claimed Bob Casey was invested in “terrorism and genocide”.

Didn’t work.

You claimed Nancy Pelosi would legislate “San Francisco Values” (i.e. ‘faggot values’, which you’re just too cowardly to just flat out state)

Didn’t work.

See you idiots in 2008. The next two years are going to be a hell of a lot of fun with us making Bush’s life a living hell.

Even Dick Morris wrote yesterday in the New York Post that you basically just lost the 2008 presidential election, because now we have Congress to use as a launching pad to humiliate Bush and Republicans all the way till 2008.

Grebrook on November 7, 2006 at 11:56 PM

*GAG*

That pic just gave me a friggin seizure, and my libido is now cowering under the bed.

infidel4life on November 7, 2006 at 11:56 PM

The worst part will be the gloating – as if they did anything to deserve this victory. As far as I can tell they spent all of their energy these last 6 undermining our president and giving aid and comfort to our enemies. Let’s see if they are dancing in Baghdad tomorrow.

jman on November 7, 2006 at 11:59 PM

After seeing that picture, I think I just threw up in my mouth. Dear God…..Rangle as Chairman of ways and means…everyone get ready to give more of your check to the goverment each week. I wonder if the MSM will show the terrorists dancing in the streets since the Dems took the house?????

fightingirish24 on November 7, 2006 at 11:59 PM

Grebrook,

We’re going to have the last laugh, loser. You don’t even know who you elected. Conservative democrats! It’ll be nice watching the dems explode into civil war. You’re not even going to have a party in ten years.

Oh yes, there will be blood…

BWAAAHAHAAHAAHAAAHA!

jaleach on November 8, 2006 at 12:00 AM

F*** You Grebook.

Sincerely,

CanaryinaCoalMine on November 8, 2006 at 12:00 AM

How bad could it be ??? Give me a friggin break !!!!

If you thought the MSM was bad before, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Anything from a blue perspective is now guaranteed to be whitewashed, or swept under the carpet, whichever is most beneficial. Anything from a red perspective, well as far as the MSM, anything red is badddddddddddddd anyway, so they are just going to spin and trumpet that until they are blue in the face. (pun intended)

The inquisitions should begin by March, Iraq lost by June, recession by spring 2007, all setting the table for 2008, with a totally tanked country spun as completely Republican’s fault.

Get ready for the coronation of Queen Hilary in 2009…. it’ll be shoved up a butt hole near you soon !!!!!

The only real question…. where and when will we be hit next ??? Chicago ??? LA ??? Atlanta ???

ChipThome on November 8, 2006 at 12:00 AM

Dudley, thank you for that. I’ve always thought the snakes inside our country were more poisonous than the ones outside (see Grebrook for proof). Keep the disgusting photo above alive and well, distribute it far and wide. This country couldn’t get rid of Carter fast enough and the Grebrook snake and its ilk are in for a surprise in 08 when America has had enough of their venom.

Shay on November 8, 2006 at 12:03 AM

You wonder why some of us foreigners have moments of anti-Americanism. Ugly American, thy name is Grebrock. Idiot.

itomania on November 8, 2006 at 12:03 AM

I think this is the first time in this country’s history in a time of war that the congress has changed parties ?

Its like McClellan winning the 1864 election over Lincoln.

William Amos on November 8, 2006 at 12:03 AM

Thank you Grebrook. Idiots like you restore my hope for the GOP in 08.

jman on November 8, 2006 at 12:05 AM

Well said jaleach. You’re a voice of reason. I too await what these “Blue Dog Democrats” will do with their new positions in Congress. Insights from KP should be interesting over the next couple years regarding this.

Yakko–re: the blue-dog Democrat theory: see this from NRO’s Moran http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=MGE4NzIxYjdmMGI3YjdmMGExMDJiNGYxNGE1OGMyOTM=

I think there’s some over-reaction going on over here. Yes some bad things are going to happen, but just imagine what happens when the Dems compromise up more in the national security area, as they did so egregiously with the help of their buds at NYT, and we get hit with an attack. Then how smart do they look? If it happens betw now and ‘08, it will tear hell out the Dem plans for an expansion on what’s been delivered tonight. Moran is right–almost certainly the nutroots will be unhappy with what follows on the Dem side, and they’ll start cannibalizing each other. Hey, that’ll be fun to watch!! Steyn says (as paraphrased by Michael Ledeen) this was a normal 6th year election, not a paradigm shift. Imho they will begin digging their own graves immediately. They have no ideas, and they have precious few principles–if the Republicans would only remember theirs we could still do fine in ‘08. If Steele hangs on and gives us a takeaway in the Senate, we still likely control the Supremes. There’s almost nothing more important than control over the Judiciary Comittee. It isn’t going to be easy, but as one of the crusty old Brits once said (help me someone) when asked from which direction change was likely to come, he replied, “Events.”

smellthecoffee on November 8, 2006 at 12:10 AM

The Copperheads didn’t have Soros money. They did have papers like the NYT on their side though. So that hasn’t changed. It’s eerie how similar the platform of the Dems. during their 1864 convention is to the current position of the Democrats. Lose this war now!! But the commander in chief remains the same. Unlike Lincoln, however, he won’t throw all of ‘em into jail.

Gerbrook–I’m sure this, “now we have Congress to use as a launching pad to humiliate Bush and Republicans all the way till 2008,” is about the best the Dems have got as regards a political platform. Thaaaat’s the way to get that swing vote in ‘08, baby, you just stick to that program, yeah, that’s the ticket. “Hi I’m Bill Donkey. My plan is to humiliate as many members of the opposing party as possible. I’m Bill Donkey, and I approve this message.” You’re so smart you should be a campaign manager. Which reminds me, seeing as you’re so smart, I’m sure you’ve got on your fingertips just exactly how many millions of his own money Lamont blew, all because he listened to brilliant minds like yours. Laugh now, cry later.

I hate to think it’ll take another attack to bury the dems, but I think most of us have suspected for years that that is exactly what it will take.

I’m far more confident that the dhimmis will immediately start tearing each other to shreds, especially when extremist dolts like Grebrook realize they didn’t fill the House with Nancy Pelosi clones. Heck, there’s talk that Pelosi knows impeachment hearings will kill the dems and thus will exert great effort to prevent them. That alone will guarantee that the Koskids and their ilk will go ballistic. Maybe they’ll take to the streets in a sort of WTO 1999 Seattle way, bringing further woe to the democrats. Whatever the dems do, we know it will be stupidity on a scale rarely realized. The New Media will be here to document this theater of the absurd in all its pitiful glory.

There’ve been Grebrooks in the MSM as long as I can remember. The election won’t change that.

I totally agree with your comments on the MSM. Forget the FCC–the FEC ought to oversee the MSM. They’re nothing but shills for the left-wing crackpot fringe. If you’re really serious about trying this you’ll put the Democrats out on their asses in 2008. In my humble opinion the time would be better spent leading by example, demonstrating some actual success in solving the problems all of us face – not just those of you with a George Bush fetish – and giving regular folks a reason to trust the [new] status quo.

Be nice to the poor guy.

I think liberals completely forgot that once they won an election … they’d have to *DO* things.

They thought it was like another basement protest party, with plenty of Diet Shasta to pass around while they told adolescent “bush” jokes.

By morning, some of them are going to realize they actually have to, um, work now. That THEY get to spend a little time (roughly 2 years) in the national hot seat.

Kind of funny, actually.

Soon, some of us here will be physically back in battle with the Islamist Fascists. Let’s not forget that. We still have to hold the line where we can.

And when we grow older, Shakespheres lines about Saint Crispins day will be more and more appropriate.

JD Hayworth is a conservative congressman from Arizona, he is known for being very tough against illegal immigration. The results in that state are absultely schizo; all the initiatives against funding illegals passed overwhelmingly, the state legislators who were more militant about it than Hayworth dreamed of being all won reelection. Hayworth’s opponent is a convicted criminal…

Something I’m gleefully looking forward to with Democrat control of the House.

This means that Charlie Rangle (D.NY) will now Head the powerful Ways and Means Committee. As late as last week he was calling for reinstating the Military Draft. I’m giving him all my support to do just that.

Imagine, all the anti-war lefty’s that pushed so hard for Democrat Control of Congress getting drafted to serve because a Democrat got his Draft Proposal put through.

They can walk around and whine in their BDU’s while I smile wearing my “Don’t Blame Me, I Voted Republican” T-Shirt

You usually get what you ask for, whether you wanted it or not.

Yes, Mexico City, how could I forget? Jubilee!

reaganaut on November 8, 2006 at 12:41 AM

Stone the Crows, what have you crazy yanks gone and done now?

Speaker Pelosi!!!!!

Strewth is it now going to be just us in Iraq holding up the fort.

This is oh so not a good outcome, I hope you are all starting to save up for the Jizya now that the Dhimmicrats are in the house.

BTW don’t degrade yourselves by sinking to the level of Grebrook and insulting him personally. Forgive him for he knows not what he does. If that applied to anyone it applies to leftist dhimmicrats like Grebrook and the other little munchkins from the land of Kos.

There is hope for 2008, if the GOP get back to their supporter base & get real about why they lost.

Grebrook don’t gloat too much, even from the Land Downunder we can see that this election was more a backlash against the administration by those of its supporters who are disgruntled than by any great rising of support for the cut & run non policies of the Dhimmicrats.

Taipan on November 8, 2006 at 12:41 AM

By morning, some of them are going to realize they actually have to, um, work now. That THEY get to spend a little time (roughly 2 years) in the national hot seat.

A hot seat which will be well supplied by the MSM with dry ice, electric fans, and popsicles.

Long National Nightmare 2.0, anyone?

mikeomatic on November 8, 2006 at 12:42 AM

now we have Congress to use as a launching pad to humiliate Bush and Republicans all the way till 2008.

… or, the American public just gave you the rope.

We’re going to sit back and see how long it will take to hang yourselves.

The Dems got some power, tonight, let’s see if they are mature enough to handle it.

I’m giving odds that they aren’t.

yo on November 8, 2006 at 12:42 AM

Hmmm. Seems like the minute that the election was called as a “huge” victory for the Dhimmmicrats, Fox News unceremoniously dumped “the boss,” and immediately began to prominently feature KP on camera. Or is it my imagination? Is this FoxNews idea of fair and balanced coverage? Or are they just the turncoat opportunists that they appear to be? Or maybe it’s just that I don’t like Shepard Smith.

CyberCipher on November 8, 2006 at 12:33 AM

KP is a regular contributor to FNC and I’m sure she was already on hand to give her opinion on the election. Perhaps she left at the same time Brit Hume and his group of commentators left. It’s been a long day and it might be a long two years as well. Let them get their rest, they and all of us might be needing it.

Yakko77 on November 8, 2006 at 12:43 AM

Ok, other than the pedophile writer democrat winning, which just shows how morally bankrupt a lot of people truly are, the GOP got exactly what it deserved, and the Country will get what they think they wanted, and now deserve. And Lieberman won, that’s a HUGE defeat for the serious liberal nutjobs.

The GOP house leadership was do nothing and worthless, they will be history, and now the entire United States will get to know Nancy Pelosi and all her other liberal toadies REAL WELL because the Mainstream Media will be falling all over themselves to flaunt the people that THEY promoted and helped win election.

Senate wise, Bush can still get a decent Supreme Court appointee probably if need be, maybe not a real conservative, but something at least better than if the Dems put them in place anyway. And as the Dems bend over for THEIR base and spend the next 2 years attacking everything good that IS happening, it just sets up a probable GOP Presidential win in a couple years. The Dems will try to take the U.S. in their “New Direction”, which anyone with half a brain knows is the wrong way. The voters who don’t know that yet now get a couple years to find it out.

So, what’s the problem? Heck, historically speaking, the Dems should have taken control of EVERYTHING this year by a landslide, and they really just barely won anything at all considering how close all the races turned out. Course, the MSM won’t report it that way, they will play to the tinfoil hatters, and have a gay old time of it for a couple years…and again, the do nothing GOP has no one to blame but themselves.

Oh well – maybe now I’ll get my pony.

Professor Blather,

Diet Shasta *snicker*

More like hot chai or some other drink you’d pick up at Starbucks. They’re probably feeling so giddy right now that they’re planning on picking up a new pair of sandals tomorrow morning–on Mom’s credit card.

Little do they know that the MSM never tells the whole story. They think they elected Nancy Pelosi clones. From Indiana? Yeah, right. In many cases, they elected pro-life, pro-military conservative democrats. These guys aren’t going to go along with impeachment proceedings and then try to explain why back home because back home ain’t San Francisco or some other kook enclave.

Let us sit back, Professor, and watch the fireworks explode in the next few months. I’ve got a good feeling about 2008.

jaleach on November 8, 2006 at 12:47 AM

Where and to whom do I turn in my guns, SUV and paycheck?

Goodbye to Democracy in Iraq…we hardly knew ya.

VikingGoneWild on November 8, 2006 at 12:51 AM

Well now, right in the middle of the war we are about to enter into a period of mindless turmoil, impeachment proceedings, dozens of investigations, recriminations and absolute gridlock. Maybe it is time to bring our soldiers home . . . if their government doesn’t support them why should they suffer. Unfortunately, all has been lost and I really don’t care what happens from now on.

rplat on November 8, 2006 at 12:51 AM

HAH, Children! What are we to do with you?
For every disadvantage there is always an alternative advantage.
The liberals will not only screw up, this is how real Conservatives get back in power.
The Republican Party will harden and remember it’s Grand Old Party roots.
The Neo, half Lib, half Pub RINO cancer will go into remission and GOOD RIDANCE. Drive and resolve will replace Complacency.
Take a look at the staunch California State Conservatives and that kind of toughness forged in hell is what will be more likely in the future Republican.
We’ll be back, stronger and with more real Conservativism than before.
Lawmakers with morality will popular again.
That is…if you kids are up for it.

Yup. I’m not sure some of the liberals celebrating have noticed just how many pro-life, pro-gun, small government hawkish Democrats they just elected. (Or so they claim to be, anyway).

Hell, I’m almost pleased. As long as the Democrats don’t get us all nuked … then letting them have power for a few years may be the best way to destroy liberalism once and for all.

Again – this assumes they don’t get us all killed. I’m damn glad I’m not an Iraqi right now, that’s for sure.

Professor Blather on November 8, 2006 at 12:55 AM

What scares me is that the loonly left will now start its campaign of targeting the military and military people.

Think of Murtha and Durban and the other military bashers now in a position to hurt our troops even more.

We must keep their feet to the fire.

I’m with you Speakup. And who better to take the GOP back to that place than the guy who took them there before? I think the stage is really set for Gingrich. HE’S not crying into his beer right now, you can count on that.
