AP, NBC, ABC: Dems win control of House; Update: It gets worse

Pessimism, baby, pessimism. I await the concession call from Dean Barnett.
Oh well. How bad could it be?

Update: Much, much worse.
Update (Bryan): If the Bush administration really thinks the Dems are coming to town to work with them on comprehensive immigration reform amnesty, they’re crazy. Or just putting a brave face on a very bad situation. But they’re doing that in the worst way possible, taking the base that they have taken for granted and kicking us after a bad loss that can plausibly be blamed to a great extent on the administration itself. Not a good move. Bush might as well switch parties, because he’s cutting himself off from his core supporters.
Update (Bryan): In the comments, clean up the language or you get banned. This site isn’t a bathroom wall.

I think the Republicans just kicked the base too many times. I think Bryan called it exactly right with his update. There’s only so much people can take. Yeah, we can say that the Dems will be soft on National security. They will. But Bush didn’t do much for it either. Wide open borders, no port security, letting Saudis back into the country, Religion of Peace rhetoric. Then there was the amnesty the Republicans tried to railroad us with. If the Dems impeach Bush, they should do it on the basis that he failed to close the borders and protect us. This is bad, but the Republicans didn’t help themselves.

I think Blather made a good comment as well. Things will be bad for the Iraqis, but that country is going to split into three parts regardless. Any fight within Islam is good for us.
PRCalDude on November 8, 2006 at 1:03 AM
I hope to God that none of the people whining and bitching right now are those who were on this blog a few weeks ago attempting to explain why it would be a good idea to vote ‘other than Republican.’

So, just to be clear, are you asserting:
1. homosexual = homogeneous?
2. When you insult people openly, you’re to be forgiven, but when others don’t insult people they’re then to be condemned for the insult?
Explain.

You’re all fooling yourselves. We’re finished. With the number of traitors and moles we just voted into our government … Republicans will not be able to successfully bake a cake.

Just heard the Dem (incumbent) winner Udall in NM 1st district interviewed.
As everyone expected, their first order of business is cut and run from Iraq. He said that they ‘will set a specific date when ALL US forces will be removed from Iraq “but it will be a secret, just between Congress and the government of Iraq, so the terrorists won’t be able to plan for it”, although it WILL be within the next six months’. (Yeah, like either of those bodies are capable of keeping any kind of secret. I guess he figures he can get away with that kind of statement because today the electorate across the nation proved beyond a doubt how stupid they really are.)
The next thing he says they will pass is “free healthcare for everyone”.

Professor Blather wrote:
That’s the big question, isn’t it? How many of us will die because of the dems? That’s a question that keeps me up at night. If we hold on in the Senate, hopefully casualties can be kept to a minimum.
Liberalism in general is another question. If we toted up the death toll caused by liberal policies–the rejection of traditional morality that leads to dangerous behaviors that cost lives, the elevation of criminality as a viable lifestyle and soft on crime mentality, etc. ad infinitum–it’d make Mao’s Cultural Revolution look like a Sunday picnic. The absolute destruction of liberalism is a moral imperative if this country is to remain a light in an increasingly dark world.

PRCalDude,
Splitting Iraq into three pieces would be almost the same as splitting this Country into a white/black/hispanic entity. How long do you think it would be before war broke out here if that happened? Feel sorry for the families of our brave service men and women, who died there now basically for nothing, because of our now all too obvious to the world inability to actually fight to win a war(thanks in large part to the sedition of democrats since it began), but in the long run, Iraq is all but lost because as soon as we leave, emboldened by tonight’s perceived by Islam and the world defeat of Bush, and the election of a Muslim to Congress, nothing will be able to stop the inevitable war that will happen there just prior to it becoming a taliban like state.
Islam is coming, I just wonder if, when the time comes, the democrats will even have the nerve to wage war against it here at home when their very lives actually depend on it. Frankly, I seriously doubt it.

Jeff, it’s not just Dems. There had to be alot of conservatives who are responsible for this. Many of them are probably members of this blog. We had many of them on here just a few weeks ago talking about voting straight Democrat.

Gregor,
Oh, over illegal immigration? I didn’t have to worry about that where I live. In Nebraska, even the democrat Senator Ben Nelson took a hard line on illegals and border security. He was also the only dem to vote for Alito if memory serves correctly. He knows how to stay alive out here. I think we’re the reddest state in the country.

Hello my fellow Nebraskan!!!
I too voted for Sen. Nelson (D-NE). He’s a conservative Democrat I am unashamed to support. From what I’m hearing, Sen. Nelson will have even more company in Congress with fellow conservative Democrats. Normally I might be dreading this Democrat takeover but I’m getting the impression there was a small but NOW growing number of Democrats who share my conservative values. Dems are still mostly liberal dominated but I think conservatives are breaking through and find a message they like with them instead of the RINOs that got fired today.
Yakko77 on November 8, 2006 at 2:02 AM
Nebraska, BIG RED in more ways than one!
Yakko77 on November 8, 2006 at 2:05 AM
Nice thinking Yakko. We’ll see how much impact your “small” number has on the country while Pelosi, Kennedy, Murtha, and Company are in charge of the house.
We can thank you for homosexual marriages, defunding of Iraq, 12 year olds getting abortions, and of course … whichever liberal judge will replace Justice Stevens.
Gregor on November 8, 2006 at 2:18 AM
Time to go by some guns boys and girls… while I still can…
I don’t believe in voting a straight party line… then I think of Nancy Pelosi leading us into a “new era”… and I get kinda sick to my stomach… There are some decent democrats out there… but as the radical-left takes more influence of the Democratic party I realized they (as a party) cannot be trusted with our country’s future.
BadBrad on November 8, 2006 at 2:19 AM
I figured there had to be another Nebraskan on here somewhere. Yep, Benny ought to just switch his party affliation to Republican and be done with it. He sure cleaned Ricketts’s clock today. People don’t understand that a Nebraska democrat is an entirely different creature.
BIG RED indeed! Although, if the Huskers can’t beat A&M and/or Colorado in the coming weeks to capture the Big 12 North title, it’ll be more like LITTLE RED! :)
jaleach on November 8, 2006 at 2:23 AM
Gregor,
There is a growing coterie of conservative democrats who are pro-life, pro-gun, and pro-military. Some of them got elected today, hence the coming meltdown of the democrat party. That small number might be enough to derail the Pelosi/Murtha/Waxman/Rangel junta and their sinister plans for America. Let’s see how big their majority ends up being.
I can’t explain in detail about Nebraska politics BUT…trust me, a vote for Senator Ben Nelson IS NOT a vote for abortion, homosexual marriages, or a liberal Supreme Court judge. Nelson was one of the few democrats who voted for Roberts and the ONLY one to vote for Alito (there might have been another but I don’t think so). He also put forward a border security plan tougher than what most Republican senators wanted.
We’re not the ones who voted for liberalism. We want nothing to do with it.
jaleach on November 8, 2006 at 2:32 AM
Yeah, Nebraska Dems certainly doesn’t equal Left Coast Liberal Democrat. KP would be very welcome here. Also, as strange as it sounds, Pelosi is actually considered conservative by Left Coast standards. That is a thought that I find absolutely terrifying.
Yeah, Nebraska football isn’t the powerhouse it used to be. I never lose sleep over sports. If the home team wins, great. If not, better luck next time.
Yakko77 on November 8, 2006 at 2:33 AM
Well said! I too cannot emphasize enough how conservative this State is on the vast majority of issues.
Yakko77 on November 8, 2006 at 2:37 AM
Yakko, you’re being naive. It doesn’t matter what four guys believe. What matters is the power of the party. The power of the Democratic Party right now is Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy … and also includes people like Soros, Streisand, Michael Moore, Kos, and other wacko Hollywood millionaires.
If you think the agenda of the Party is going to be dictated by four incoming moderates you are absolutely out of your mind.
Washington doesn’t run like a high school parent club meeting.
Gregor on November 8, 2006 at 2:46 AM
And yes … you DID just vote for liberalism. You are partly responsible for putting the House in the control of socialists and communists.
Good job
Gregor on November 8, 2006 at 2:48 AM
Yakko77,
I don’t understand the Coast culture (or lack thereof). I suspect provincial Romans thought the same thing about the goings on in Rome. I also don’t understand how I can care more about what happened in New York and Washington, D.C. on 9/11 than many of the people who live there. I’ve never even been to New York, don’t really care for their values (or lack thereof), yet every time I see those towers falling I get ill and want to prosecute the war against the terrorists with renewed vigor. Go figure.
jaleach on November 8, 2006 at 2:48 AM
Gregor,
You’re wrong. I voted for a conservative Republican in the House. He’s hardly a communist/socialist fellow traveler.
jaleach on November 8, 2006 at 2:51 AM
jaleach, I was aiming that at Yakko. Sorry.
I’d like to point out that I still blame Bush for all of this, as well as Republicans like John McCain. Republicans who we trusted to uphold our principles and have done absolutely nothing but bring our Party down.
If I had my way I would impeach him myself … but of course I would not replace him with a liberal.
The immigration issue is a complete joke and it will now get worse. There’s really no hope on the horizon.
I would love to see Mitt Romney as President … but I believe this group of liberals will use the next two years to make that completely impossible.
Gregor on November 8, 2006 at 2:59 AM
The Dems took control of the House. They want out of Iraq now. It is their responsibility (especially with regards to appropriations). The longer our troops keep getting killed there, the more blood will be on the hands of Pelosi and the Dems. That is the price they will have to pay for winning tonight, and the reasons they won tonight.
Steve Tsouloufis on November 8, 2006 at 3:01 AM
Grebrook is the face of the modern Democratic Party. Do not think that he is an aberration. He promises to spend the time of Congress in a hunt for revenge against George W. Bush and the Republicans. Adn that is what the Democratic Party will do in Washington.
He and his party do not care about terrorism striking at home. Forget the NSA intercepting terrorist plans to strike America. Forget about tracking where terrorist money goes. Forget about replacing worn out military equpment. Carter made sure that the military was gutted. So did Clinton. And so will Pelosi/Reid.
And Americans will die.
They need the money for social programs, don’tchaknow.
And they’ll find a way to blame it all on Bush (and the Republicans) the way the did in 1977 and 1993.
We face Al Qaeda (who as we all know are overjoyed in the Democratic win) coming here, because Pelosi/Reid, et. al., are not willing to face them over there. If a city dies under a mushroom cloud, the Brownshirts like Grebrook will blame Bush for “making them mad” by invading Iraq.
We face higher taxes, gun control, Kyoto, an increased level of terrorism at hime, and a much worse future.
And all Grebrook can think about is Kristalnacht.
How typical. How Brownshirt.
We have a tough 2 years ahead of us.

49-48-1 (CNN is still listing Lieberman as a Dem) with the the other 2 Dem by 7,800 and 1,500 votes. Likely lawsuit hell until January. The GOP has no one but themselves to blame for forgetting why they were put into power in the first place in ‘94.
Mike O on November 8, 2006 at 8:00 AM
The GOP desereved to lose. There was not one candidate that I voted for because i was excited, or because I thought they would make a good representative.
It was a choice between bad and worse, and that makes it easy to change.
Realist Citizen on November 8, 2006 at 9:04 AM
The Dummycrats didn’t win on issues they hold near and dear — the Republicans lost those elections by not holding near and dear to the issues that saw them elected in the first place. Every liberal initiative was soundly throttled — except for those hoisted by the idiots in Massachusetts that keep electing the likes of Teddy Kandylannedy.
Two years of stalemate and gridlock before the next Presidential election and the removal of these Dummycrat freshman. Legitimate America is disappointed, but not surprised. Except where the Dummycrats were the super-majority, every race was within single digits (which means, for you liberal morons out there, a protest vote against Republicans, not FOR Democrats).
America endures liberals because of its strength. The problem remains the liberals continue to weaken America — the very foundation that provides these pond scum a forum from which to launch their anti-American screed.
This was not Democratic “victory”. This election was nothing more than reminding the Republicans “accountability” is not a campaign catch phrase.

NRA,
The thought of us losing in Iraq pains me as well. I would rather see a stable democracy there as well. Maybe if Bush and Rumsfeld had fought the war like men instead of like mice, we would be on our way to having one. Gone are the FDRs and TRumans that had the stomach for such things. Gone are the generals like Sherman and Patton who knew how to make the enemy afraid. Every general that has disagreed with Bush and Rumsfeld has been replaced. Moreover, they haven’t supported the troops with relaxed rules of engagement and support in the press. No, it’s been the exact opposite. I’m looking for the silver lining, that’s all.
PRCalDude on November 8, 2006 at 11:44 AM
I find it funny that supposedly open-minded liberals like Grebrook always assume that is what Republicans mean when they say “San Francisco Values”.
First of all, is the average Republican voter for the so-called gay rights agenda? No. But, if you look at the returns from this election, Gay Marriage Bans passed by +70% in states where democrats were elected by wide margins against republicans. So, it appears that, quite likely, the gay agenda is something that is not popular on BOTH sides of the political aisle.
Secondly, there are plenty of other policies in San Francisco that your average Republican cares very strongly about from anti-gun laws, extremely pro-abortion laws, job-killing tax policies and development restriction laws (that have the added benefit of making San Francisco one of the most homogenous cities in the entire country….in spite of their liberal openess for ALL people).
As I said, there are plenty of things that conservatives object to regarding “San Francisco Values”. I find it quite interesting that the only one you can see is ‘homosexuals’. In my mind that says more about you than it does about Republicans.

California liberal chic is going to “redecorate” our Congressional House and attempt to reorder out lives.
