The poor man’s Olbermann weighs in for the benefit of any CNN viewers who are still undecided.
Credit Caff with this much: he acknowledged that the papers are owned by Gannett, not the U.S. military. You wouldn’t know that if you relied on the Independent or, were it not for Tom Reynolds, Meet the Press.
Update: According to my Dish Network listings, CNN is re-running “Broken Government” three times tonight — once at 11 p.m. and back to back at 4 and 5 a.m.
Update: Master tipster RLW e-mails to say that Cafferty has apologized. I assume it was on the 7 o’clock episode of The Situation Room, which I don’t record. But duly noted.
Update: Here’s the transcript of Cafferty’s “apology”:
At one point, I referred to Rumsfeld as a war criminal and I stepped over the line. However, on the eve of tomorrow’s election, it’s worth remembering that it was President Bush who raised the issue of Rumsfeld and the kind of job he’s doing last week. The president said he wanted Vice President Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld to remain with him for the duration of his administration.

I dunno—sounds like some obnoxious jerk I don’t want to hear again
NellE on November 6, 2006 at 5:02 PM
Jack Cafferty is one of the most loathsome people on television. To find someone more retarded than him I have to turn to MSNBC. This man, if he can be so called, makes me sick.
I will say, AP, this post is an excellent GOTV effort for conservatives.
Cary on November 6, 2006 at 5:02 PM
Cafferty is an (geriatric) loudmouth punk and attention whore who needs good beating. Preferably at the hands of Rummy himself.
Teddy on November 6, 2006 at 5:03 PM
Libs appear to be getting a little froggy on the eve of the midterms.
Let’s see how it works out for them.
there it is on November 6, 2006 at 5:04 PM
Jack Cafferty and Lou Dobbs have to be the two most angriest dolts on TV.
This coming from CNN is not surprising nor amusing.
Morons

And Republicans are accused of going negative?
JohnJ on November 6, 2006 at 5:20 PM
Isn’t he that “C-word reporter” that is always referring to FNC as the “F-word Network?”
rw on November 6, 2006 at 5:22 PM
Hey, why’d you cut out of that early? Very enjoyable.
Hardly fair, though. Rummy’s not nearly the obnoxious jerk that Dick Cheney is; he’s just plain incompetent. How can you hate a guy who uses the phrase “henny penny the sky is falling”?

MSNCB Anchor: Republicans want to send the troops to their deaths
Yesterday on MSNBC an anchor claimed, based on his flipping of the GOPs charge of if the Dems win, the terrorists win, that Democrats wanted to protect the troops while Republicans just “wanted to send them to their deaths”.
It was towards the end of their decision 06 coverage; before their airing of Meet the Press. Unfortunately, I could not record the segment but if anyone knows someone who records MSNBC coverage it might be worth checking out.

Cafferty is a been nowhere, done nothing blowhard and isn’t fit to shine Rumfeld’s shoes. The brain dead idiot could only exist on the likes of CNN.
rplat on November 6, 2006 at 5:29 PM
yak…yak…yak….
Sherman was an obnoxious jerk and war criminal, but there aren’t any Confederates in Atlanta today.
Limerick on November 6, 2006 at 5:32 PM
I’m going to drop another name, so stand back.
I have the great privilege to attend town hall briefings with Rummy every quarter. The questions are not screened. In the past, I have found him to be very businesslike and very compassionate. He has said so much in these meetings that I feel compelled to blog it for Election Day, rather than bore you all with it here. Check me out bright and early…..(hot link my name, shameless plugs are too too tacky.)
seejanemom on November 6, 2006 at 5:35 PM
The Communist Party is supporting Democrats on their website. Even with this being completely expected … I believe this could actually turn quite a few votes.
Anyone out there with a blog … please spread get this out.
Gregor on November 6, 2006 at 5:38 PM
War criminal? Must be “thoughtcrime” in Cafferty-speak.
Patrick Chester on November 6, 2006 at 5:43 PM
Allah,
I just commented on this at Ace’s site.
I saw Cafferty make the comment and I decided that he has now surpassed Matthews on the 2nd biggest feminine hygiene product on TV.
The funny thing is that Jack(the ass is silent) accuses Rumsfeld of being an oboxious jerk.
POT! KETTLE! F’ING POT! F’ING KETTLE!!!!
Rosetta on November 6, 2006 at 5:46 PM
Gee Jack, quit being coy and let us know which party you’ll be voting for tomorrow.
Prick.
They just keep on giving us more and more reasons to get out the vote.
BacaDog on November 6, 2006 at 5:47 PM
I’m not surprised the Communist Party is supporting Democrats. Their programs and agendas are a reflection of Socialist movement.
It is a shame to watch a good political party dumb itself down to Liberalism and Socialism.
But of course, when libs can’t see the burning toast, they resort to name calling, ridiculing, and obnoxious BS.
So there, henny penny, keep watching the sky, your world is gonna fall tomorrow. Ha Ha!
Kini on November 6, 2006 at 5:51 PM
Significant because only Communists hate the corruption, incompetence, and hypocrisy of the current Republican majority.

Wrong side of history. Wrong side of right.
Just plain Wrong.

No, God hates that too. But even He can’t bring himself to vote for the party that gave us John Kerry.

‘Nuff said.

Heh, Savage has the best nickname for MSNBC: More Snotty Nonsense By Chicks.
And CNN is of course the Clinton News Network, or is it Communist? I guess they’re pretty close.
NTWR on November 6, 2006 at 6:15 PM
does cnn, msnbc or these other liberal news outlet think that they could get away with this crap in all the countries they support that are run by dictators?
I think they do otherwise they would not be trying to turn this country into a socialist state!

Care to wager on that?
Constantine on November 6, 2006 at 6:45 PM
…so, I guess that this two-legged pustule calling Mr. Rumsfeld an “obnoxious jerk” could be considered informed opinion. He sees one in the mirror daily….
…the “war criminal” jab was a bit low…but, this is coming from a “truth criminal”, after all….
Puritan1648 on November 6, 2006 at 6:52 PM
…coming from Commies, that’s rich!
Mind you, this is the party, in the States, which has consistently apologized for Stalin and his purges, Vietnam and its “reeducation camps”, and was the soul-brother to the guys who gave us “Year Zero” in Cambodia.
They don’t hate corruption, hypocricy and all that rot…they are rotten to the core…they just hate the competition.
Puritan1648 on November 6, 2006 at 6:55 PM
Recognizing of course, as Jack was so careful to do, that The Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Times are owned by Gannett News, publishers of USA Today, America’s Cartoon Newspaper, I have but two, well thought out words to deliver:
F#@$ &*(%.
Thank you.
HerrMorgenholz on November 6, 2006 at 7:04 PM
Cranky chube.
Valiant on November 6, 2006 at 7:05 PM
I’ll give Cafferty the “obnoxious jerk” bit - whatever. But, “war criminal” is a bit much. He’s just muggin’ for what’s left of his audience.
And, not to be snarky, ‘cuz I dig this site quite a bit, but it seems a shade odd to be razzin’ CNN with their banner spinning all to and fro at the top of this page.
yo on November 6, 2006 at 7:09 PM
Since when is the Communist Party a separate entity from the Democrats? What did they do, break away because the Democrats became too liberal and unhinged, and were making the Communists look bad?
Seriously, though, this is about as surprising as every terrorist group in the business endorsing the Democrats.
ReubenJCogburn on November 6, 2006 at 7:13 PM
Someone needs to get ahold of Caff…Chaff…whatever…and CNN and Human Rights Watch and let them know that in my Texas county we will be voting in 37 judges……..and only 2 of those races have dems on the ballot….the other 35 you have one choice and one choice only…REPS!!!!!!!!
Vote Fixin Texas Style!!!!!!!!!! YeeeeeeeeHAAAAAAAAAAAwwwwww
Limerick on November 6, 2006 at 7:14 PM
Who is this crybaby Cafferty, anyways?
JackM on November 6, 2006 at 7:19 PM
Sure, but please note that I don’t gamble, unless ordering out.
I can only wager humble pie or polite glee. You choose and we’ll see what tomorrow brings.
Kini on November 6, 2006 at 7:32 PM
Cafferty is a worthless drunk. CNN just puts him on the air because they know he’ll say idiotic s**t like this. And of course when people complain to CNN about it, they’ll just say he was voicing his personal opinion, not that of the network.
Scot on November 6, 2006 at 7:42 PM
Guess he’s buying his BDS meds online and they sent the Mex substitutes instead.
(I’ve heard that channeling Cindy Sheehan happens when you get doggie Viagra instead of Paxil. Something about a stiff medulla oblongata….)
profitsbeard on November 6, 2006 at 7:55 PM
I was thinking the loser would donate a small sum to the winner’s charity of choice… how would humble pie/polite glee work?
I’m predicting Democrats will win a majority in at least one house.
Constantine on November 6, 2006 at 7:58 PM
Is it just me or does anyone else think that Jack is a alcholic? I’ve had that feeling about him over the past year as I’ve heard so many of his rants on vid-clips like this. I’d be willing to bet that his veins are always filled with cheap vodka. He is one major asshole. And CNN just loves the fool-tool.
Also–WTF is going to be watching TV at 4 and 5 am????? There aren’t any moonbats that are up that early and even if they are it takes a better part of the day for the limited brain cells they have to begin to receive any kind of info, even if its just comic book pictures.
auspatriotman on November 6, 2006 at 7:59 PM
And you may very well be correct. We shall see.
While I do not particularly care for charities in any shape or form, I’ll make an exception for this one. I’ll welcome the challenge Constantine! I predict Republicans will hold both houses.
As for humble pie and/or polite glee, both are without any monetary value, and therefore don’t cost me anything other than either personal satisfaction and/or dissatisfaction.
Call it the Scottish in me. It’s like brain power, I have to keep what little I got.
Kini on November 6, 2006 at 8:24 PM
Why would he apologize? These people are beyond apologies.
EF on November 6, 2006 at 8:39 PM
Who is this yahoo, and who the Hell gives a flying fig what he thinks about Rummie??
tickleddragon on November 6, 2006 at 9:43 PM
In the old Soviet Union they called them Communist/Socialist, here in American we call them Democrats/Liberals. That has been the case since at least the days of FDR. The funny part is, due to the dumbed-down curriculums of the public schools, most Democrats/Liberals don’t even know they are supporting political doctrine that is anathema to all that that made America great.
Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy. — Sir Winston Churchill
Communism will be implemented by fools. — Vladimir Lenin.
Communism abolished eternal truths, it abolishes all religion and all morality. — The Communist Manifesto
We are for Socialism, disarmament, and ultimately for abolishing the state itself as an instrument of violence and compulsion. We seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class, and the sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal. — Roger Baldwin, founder of the organization known today as the American Civil Liberties Union AKA The ACLU.

Wikipedia has lots of neat info about Cafferty:
And here’s an interesting one:
I have doubts that he’s given up the sauce. He looks pickled everytime I’ve seen him. He’s probably working on his third liver. And if he hates Red Hillie, I haven’t heard him say much about her.
jaleach on November 6, 2006 at 10:10 PM
Yep, he looks pretty pickled.
EF on November 6, 2006 at 10:22 PM
Why do these ass-hats bother apologizing? We already know that they feel this way and are we supposed to believe that they suddenly changed their mind? He can take his “apology” and put a light coat of oil on it and shove it… well, you get the idea.
It’s like a Kerry apology… Hint: we already know you hate the military so stop with the obligatory half-assed mea culpa.
x95b10 on November 6, 2006 at 10:28 PM
Sorry, but I stronlgy! Disagree Lou Dobbs is great! He is so good he should be on Foxnews, but CNN would be a wasteland without him.
Now the clown Cafferty is the Moron.. that is a definite agreement…
retired on November 6, 2006 at 10:49 PM
Lou Dobbs is great?
*snort*
He did a series and wrote a book about the “war on the middle class!”
What horseshit.
Which class does he think has been helped the most by the Bush tax cuts, the great economy and stock market and the low mortgage rates?
(hint: starts with an “m”…)
You can’t call Lou great or smart, face it.
Re: Cafferty–he definitely needs more AA meetings.
When he comes on the air, he looks and sounds like he’s just crawled out of the sack with the world’s worst hangover and needs a large “hair of the dog” before he goes on the air.
Jen the Neocon on November 7, 2006 at 8:39 AM
Anyone that wants to email Jack Cafferty to let him know what you think about his propaganda can contact him at this unpublished address:
Jack.Cafferty@turner.com
Newbusters published it after his last Bush tirade as a public service so that the CNN censors cannot delete it before it gets to him.
I let him know what I thought of his broadcast and he responded. He was a little irritated that I knew his private addy.
