On President aging, look at all of the two term President’s before and after pictures and you’ll see Bush 43 is like the rest. I was hoping he would be the exception but I guess not. It is a grueling job. I can’t see why anyone would want to be President. Lord I hope Hillary never gets there and definitely not a two-termer. We’d all turn to stone.

As was said, 9-11 can’t be swept under the rug. I mean someone has to respond and keep up the response plus run the homeland too. Its also tough when the other party is bashing the hell out of you day and night and wants us to lose just so they can say the Republicans screwed up. Exactly. And come on, Bush hasn’t even had sexual harrassment as a way to relieve stress. Though let’s face it, I’m sure Laura is much warmer to come home to after a long day at the office.

I’m a Christian and I’m for the death penalty, especially in a case like this. There are people who do such horrific deeds that the only thing to do is remove them from this Earth. As a Christian, what I won’t do is presume to know what will happen to Saddam, al-Zarqawi, etc., when they meet their maker. Eternal judgment is left to God alone.

Yeah, you can add me to this list as well, especially with this case. Who can promise Saddam would never be freed? It’s not as though he has none who are loyal to him. I’m wouldn’t be surprised if they wouldn’t break him out at some point.

Besides, the ultimate humiliation has got to be a public hanging. And the whole reason he gave for killing all those people (the ones for which he’s going to be hung) was an attempted assassination. It’s a little ironic but fitting.

And last, as a Christian, I can’t ignore the fact that God Himself called on the Israelites to engage in capital punishment. God is God and has not changed. So I cannot believe that God now believes the death penalty is unjust.

Wishing for the salvation of all, even the most eggregious and brutal dictator, is proper and Biblical. But that doesn’t supplant execution as a proper penalty for the murderous barbarism Saddam dealt to Iraq for nearly four decades. He has earned this punishment.

There are sins which are rightly “unto death”. The person makes that choice, and if it carries with it eternal punishment as well, that doesn’t make it less appropriate. As I know you’d agree, we each deserve that punishment, short of the saving grace of Christ through His substitutionary sacrifice, the shedding of His blood paying our debt.

Saddam isn’t going to hang tomorrow, he gets an automatic appeal. You can always pray for a miracle that he has an epiphany before then. I confess that my prayer list for salvations will never be short enough for me to find room for Saddam Hussein on it. Far too many people I care more about.

I agree with you. I am also a Christian. The New Testament tells Christians they are to abide by the laws of the land. If the law of the land says the penalty for murder is death, how could one, in good conscious, not abide in the law. Render unto Caeser what is Caeser’s and…. well, you know that verse.

Being a Christian, this in regards to the death penalty, doesn’t mean you sign a suicide pact with reality. Yes, there is turn the other cheek, redemption, forgiveness and the like, but I refuse to believe that God would frown on us for sending him the garbage of this world to do with what he will. Someone attacking me or my family does not require me to turn the other cheek. I can forgive in time someone who killed my son, while at the same time supporting the punisment of death for that act of evil. Even the bible acknowledges render un to Caesar, so I believe that God has given us the mind to reason for a reason while we inhabit his Earth. Forgiveness and punishment are not at odds with one another. I can forgive while still punishing wrong deeds…….

Actually, that wouldn’t be a way out whatsoever. If Saddam lived, both his victims of past and present would fear his return, and his followers had every incentive to fight for it.

Don’t forget that this man probably has vast amounts of money left in Swiss bank accounts, and that his so-called “lawyers” would more than willingly pass on information to his paramilitary forces in the Sunni regions.

After all, detaining mob leaders in Italy and Latin America didn’t exactly stop their rule, did it?
