The point I'm making about the unwed mothers is that the majority of them are living off of the government because the liberals have provided taxpayers' money to them. It is liberalism that enables this type of lifestyle and it has had negative ramifications for our society. Children in these types of homes tend to be more inclined to have behavior problems and get into trouble with the law. If someone wants to have a child who is not married and can provide for that child without govenment assistance it really is not my business. But if they choose this lifestyle knowing that the government (taxpayers) will take care of them then it is my business.

The states that had Republicans in office didn't have the Katrina problem. The state that had Democrats in office did have problems. I see a different lesson there. The problems in our country can be traced to liberalism. Poorly performing schools, promiscuity resulting in unwed mothers raising children without fathers, criminals being released early or receiving light sentences. Liberalism cannot cure what it has caused. I will never vote for a Democrat.

Your statement beautifully illustrates everything that’s wrong with it: distortion, revisionist history, hypocrisy and lack of accountability. These are the reasons they’ll likely lose their majority, and have already lost the confidence of the people.

Sounds more like the Clinton administration. And, the resulting fallout that put Republicans in power.

Freelancer, you have a very selective memory of what happened, and how many GOP representatives and supporters have left their positions in disgrace. Failure and incompetence are not characteristics of "the left" as you so smugly assert (or "the right" for that matter). However, it is a characteristic of the current Republican majority. Your statement beautifully illustrates everything that's wrong with it: distortion, revisionist history, hypocrisy and lack of accountability. These are the reasons they'll likely lose their majority, and have already lost the confidence of the people.

this is why Democrats would be worse, Constantine

1)Democrats want to get rid of the NSA program so that their terrorist buddies can call other terrorists to plan more attacks on the U.S. but as long as we don't listen to their call, democrats don't care what happens, they will just blame Bush.

2)Democrat want to give constitutiuonal rights to those who want to kill us, in other words - they want to appease those who want to kill every single american, including you & your family, but you liberals don't care because liberals like yourself don't want to infringe on their rights to kill us.

3)democrats WANT to raise taxes
4)democrats WANT amnesty to those who BROKE the law
5)democrats WANT gay marriage even the a majority of americans, like myself are against it.

6)democrats want to get rid of all hoildays so that it doesn't offend non-religion people.

liberals democrats are A)Anti-Millitary B)Anti-American & C)Terrorist appeasers

Constantine, exactly what did the federal government fail to do in Katrina that it should have done?

The fed's didn't take Nagin and Blanco by the collar and force an evacuation order out of them.

The White House called the Louisiana Statehouse three days before Katrina made landfall clearly stating that an evacuation order should be made, and they were ignored.

FEMA practically begged Mayor Nagin to start moving essential materials and equipment out of range so that they would be available for cleanup and recovery operations. Ignored.

For those conscientiously asking why people continue to call for voting Republican when many on the right are upset with how our own party has governed, here is a synopsis of the answer:

Our displeasure stems from supposedly conservative Republicans allowing the party to slip to the left in their manner of governance. Responding to that by voting for the further left is illogical on its face.

Cunningham did wrong. He's gone.
Foley did wrong. He's gone.
Abramoff did wrong. He's gone, but don't you lefties get too smug, he's going to end up taking down some Democrats before all is said and done, he was an equal opportunity crook.

In the meantime, Ted Kennedy continues to serve in spite of manslaughter and treason. John Kerry continues to serve in spite of treason. Barney Frank continues to serve in spite of suborning criminal behavior. Just to name a few.

One party does a slightly better job of cleaning house for honor's sake than the other. Oh, and all that is without mentioning:

Taxes
Abortion
Military support
Immigration enforcement
And a host of other issues where there really is a black and white difference in values.

the people have the power to remove tyrany from within their midst…ALL PEOPLE…

Now THAT's a Hollywood scenario: fighting off a militia with no weapons, no resources and kids to feed. You'll never win the hearts and minds of a people when you have an attitude that gets innocents killed.

No Constantine, I'm speaking as someone who understands that the people have the power to remove tyrany from within their midst...ALL PEOPLE....if they chose not to then that is their decision. Am I saying kill innocents willingly? Of course not. But if the enemy is THERE then THERE is a legimate target.

And, btw, the head of the NAE is important, because he tries to legislate morality by peddling influence in Washington...Shackler

OK I follow the line of reasoning that NAE influence peddeling might be an issue. But are you honestly saying I should dump my congressman because one particular religeous leader is a crackhead homosexual. I just dont see how one thing has to do with the other. Now if Mike Pence were actually the gay prostitute he was getting "massages" from that might be a different story.

the human child has no choice, something your side forgets, NATIONS have a choice, if they choose to fight then they deserve the consequences.

I agree with you on the first point, but nations do not have a choice... soldiers do. For example, I don't think any of the civilians in Fallujah whose bodies were melted by American use of blue phosphorus had a choice.

It wouldn’t have mattered if FDR, JFK and Clinton were in the White House the government would have screwed it up just the same.

So you believe any Democrat (or any other Republican, for that matter) would have hired someone in charge of FEMA who was a political crony whose only pervious experience was the horse show circuit? Not only that, but in some recent legislation it was clearly outline that the position should only be filled by qualified individuals, and Bush added another one of his infamous "signing statements" showing he intended to disregard that particular item. Incredible.

I've heard a lot of similar talk from conservatives (neo and otherwise) regarding other issues... "sure it's bad, but the Democrats would be worse." You have no information to back that up, and it seems symptomatic of a Republican revolution that has failed miserably and whose supporters refuse to admit they "bet on the wrong horse" (pun intended).

I admit, the economy seems to be going well, but at what cost? I have a great job with benefits. But 30 million have lost their coverage. I make more now than I did two years ago, but the average wage is down. If you have genuinely noticed the drop in your taxes, then hats off to you. I am still looking. I hate to burst your (real estate) bubble but the housing market is down. That 4.4% unemployment only includes those still LOOKING for a job. It doesn't include those who have given up. And, yes, we did survive 9/11, and Katrina, and can sustain two wars...BECAUSE WE BORROW TRILLIONS FROM CHINA! Why do you think we have no leverage in dealing with N. Korea or Iran in the security council? Because they could call in their debt any time. Who's going to pay that bill? Our kids. How? Higher taxes. I don't believe the Democrats are impervious to scandal and taint and bribery. We've seen it before. But this unflinching apologizing for GOP misdeeds is sick (and so is democratic apologizing). And, btw, the head of the NAE is important, because he tries to legislate morality by peddling influence in Washington. It's all about the power. But, I have senn those of you who genuinely support the current conservatives, and not much we liberals can say to change that. And since you are currnetly in power, I sure as hell hope you know what you are doing.

I’m curious about something. Do you all really believe in the conservatives that have been in power. You’ve got guys like Cunningham and Nay taking bribes for votes. You’ve got Delay under indictment and Abramoff sneaking around the Capitol. You’ve got guys like Foley taking advantage of his post, and you’ve got the head of the NAE buying drugs from male prostitutes (at the very least). This congress has done NOTHING to help the average worker, instead wasting time on the “values” issues. Do you really support them, or is it a “least bad of the worst” kind of thing? I am not trying to be combative or sarcastic. I am a liberal and genuinely curious why such inteptitude is being rewarded with public support. Any insight would be helpful.

As far as the bribes for votes/corruption issue goes I don't see this as belonging to any one party. The Democrats have their dirty politicians as well. The fact that the Republicans tend to be slightly less tolerant of this sort of thing than the Democrats is in my opinion a plus in their favor. Foley is a disgrace to be sure, but I thought Democrats were all about the gays, I think that if Foley had been a Democrat his fellow Democrats would be defending his behavior as they did Bill Clintons. As far as the junkie, gay preacher guy goes, I had never heard of him until yesterday, and I am not sure what he has to do with upcoming congressional elections. As far as the nothing to help the average worker thing goes I am not so sure. I work as a waiter/bartender at a slightly upscale restaurant. I make pretty good money from serving whiskey to men who saved money from the bush tax cut. That money definitely trickles down into my pocket.

That isn't to say that the Republicans don’t do anything to piss me off. I don't gamble online but I resent a government that is so arrogant as to think it has the authority to tell me I can't. I hate nanny government be it from Republicans or Democrats. Illegal immigration doesn’t bother me so much as an unsecured border. I work with about a dozen or so guys whom I'm fairly sure don't have proper documentation. That doesn’t bother me so much except that I know if a Mexican dishwasher can get across the border, so can one of Bin Ladens men. There are numerous other issues as well where I have problems with Republican performance. Problem is, the Democrats are just as bad or worse when it comes to these issues.

There are also areas where I think the Republicans did some things right. Letting the assault weapons ban expire was a great victory for gun owners like myself. There are areas of the War on Terror Where I think the Republicans should have done better. (If they had to go into Iraq it should have been done with more force) But overall I think that it has been at least a c+ kind of job and since the Democrats and others would rate an F in the war I guess I will have to go with the Republicans on that issue as well.

As far as my politics go just to let you know whom this is coming from. I am a married man in my mid 30's I have a 3 year old daughter. My wife is in the National Guard and I am ex army. I never saw a combat deployment; my wife did a tour in Afghanistan. I self identified as a Libertarian until 911. I love the Libertarians locally but they are wrong on the war, and they don’t win anyway. Currently I am a bartender my last job was at a local Sporting goods store until it was bought out by a national chain. The first thing I look at when deciding on a candidate, is their position on the 2nd amendment. I would consider voting for a Democrat if they had a good track record on that issue. Then I look at support for the military, then their record on other issues.

It's no joke to me, Reuben. I just don't understand why you're not outraged at the man whose incompetence, as evidenced by lack of planning and support (if you still think the war is a good idea), helped get them killed.

In my opinion many of the casualties are a result of sending the troops into a situation they never should have been.
