Video: Alan Colmes interviews Borat

One’s a grotesque parody of a journalist who barely speaks English. The other’s Borat.

No, I kid. We like Colmesy. In fact, the boss says he’s one of the nicest guys at FNC. But then, a traitor to conservatism would say that, wouldn’t she?

With this appearance, Borat concludes his every-last-talk-show-in-America tour. Last week, after the advance screenings, his movie was pulling an impossibly high 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Today, after opening, it’s pulling … 96%. Tomorrow night’s the night for me.

For those who haven’t sene it, here’s the (in)famous video of him singing “Throw the Jew Down the Well.”

“You want come to my, um, hotel room, we will, um, get the drug?”

The stuff this guy comes up with. :-D I’ll be there tomorrow as well, I think.

DaveS on November 4, 2006 at 1:45 AM

Actually that would be “get drunk” with an accent.

What I want to know is how is he getting a pass with all this?

MirCat on November 4, 2006 at 1:49 AM

Man that was funny. His Foley bit was really good too.

p0s3r on November 4, 2006 at 1:52 AM

Both full seasons of Da Ali G will be played on HBO on Monday and Tuesday nights.
Sincerely,
Sumner Redstone
P.S. Have you enjoyed the rest of my cultural contributions (MTV et al)

CanaryinaCoalMine on November 4, 2006 at 1:54 AM

How’s he getting a pass? Because he’s funny. That cuts you a lot of slack.

Kind of like competance. Bosses will put up with a lot of crap from employees who are competant and get good results.

Slackers who get lippy? Less likely to be tolerated.

EFG on November 4, 2006 at 1:56 AM

Ah, get drunk does make more sense. Getting a pass on what?

DaveS on November 4, 2006 at 1:57 AM

I think he meant Baron-Cohen’s getting a pass on what his movie actually does — take a massive s__t on the average American’s sense of self-importance.

mikeomatic on November 4, 2006 at 2:08 AM

If you can’t laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at.

If you hadn’t noticed, most comedians are making fun of the audience most of the time, and the audience goes right along for the ride.

Neo on November 4, 2006 at 2:39 AM

Saw it earlier this evening during matinee before the Friday night rush… I have to admit it, I laughed my ass off. It wasn’t what I expected.

I actually wished the movie was longer than the hour and twenty minutes it was. I laughed so hard I cried during most of it. I can’t imagine seeing this movie in a filled to capacity theater. It would probably be almost impossible to hear much of the dialogue with a couple hundred people all shitting their pants with laughter at the same time.

That’s all I’ll say so as not to inadvertantly drop any spoilers.

SilverStar830 on November 4, 2006 at 2:39 AM

I guess I’m beyond making fun of making fun of Jews. Real Muslims from backward countries are funnier when they aren’t stoning women or blowing up innocents.

Interesting how gay Republicans are perverts and all other gays are beautiful people. Alan didn’t have his blue hat on.

Hening on November 4, 2006 at 7:47 AM

And SilverStar of Hot Air acclaims:

High praise, but I don’t see them using this quote in the trailer.

Is it me, or does Borat say “Go Gators”?

Neo on November 4, 2006 at 2:39 AM

Sadly, while the laughs are on the audience, all too often, the joke, as well, is on us.

After all, comedy is the one medium where we can be shown ourselves in plain sight and we don’t always see it beyond our own absurdities due to the nature in which it is shown.

Comedy and comedians indeed make us laugh at and with ourselves!

Sometimes that is what is needed to address serious issues – to get us to see them through other lenses.

Until then – enjoy the movie and pray that Borat next becomes ambassador of … (fill in the blank)

i saw the movie at 12:45 Friday. It is definately funny and vulgar. At times my fiance just stared at the screen in horror. I would go see it again to see if there was anything I missed though. I loved it because political correctness was thrown out the door.

Dittohead on November 4, 2006 at 10:12 AM

…it was worth it to the bemused discomfort of Colmes here…and to hear the staff in the background laughing.

This movie is going to make *crazy* money. It appeals to the American sense of humor. It makes fun of other people’s comfort zones. It’s just what the American people want: it’s premise is paper-thin, and it’s really about nothing. The central character acts foolishly, and everyone around him is uncomfortable….

…hmmm…sort of explains Kerry’s showing in ‘04…maybe he’d've been wise to sell tickets….

infidel4life on November 4, 2006 at 10:58 AM

Is that really a proper use for Alan Colmes?

Emmett J. on November 4, 2006 at 11:02 AM

On an earlier Fox show, Martha’s I think, Borat talked about his son who’s 11 years old. And his sons wife…. and their newborn kid. It was hillarious.

…hmmm…sort of explains Kerry’s showing in ‘04…maybe he’d’ve been wise to sell tickets….

Unfortunately he was serious.

Yikes. It hurts to even think about it. :)

Bob's Kid on November 4, 2006 at 11:59 AM

Definitely a proper use of Alan Colmes.

Borat is showing the idiocy of the Left for all to see.

It is revealing that the left cannot even seem to understand that THEY are the brunt of this character’s humor.

The entire schtick is based upon the way the Left will put up with anything at all, including someone bringing a bag of their own feces to the dinner table (in the movie), rather than stand up for their own society’s values.

And from Colmes’ lsughter we can see that they don’t even get it that the joke is on them.

Saw the movie last night, I’ve seen funnier movies, did not have a bowel movement problem at all. — Blazing Saddles back in the day it was shown in the theaters was a lot funnier IMO. But some of us don’t need graphic gratuitous over-the-top scenes of grossness in order to laugh. Slapstick plus junior-high humor about bodily functions appeals to a certain mindset I guess.

Folks, this guy is a one-shot wonder the public will quickly tire of. Kudo’s to him for having a keen sense of timing to take advantage of his [previously] unforeseen popularity. I’m sure an agent is somewhere involved. As I witness this guy’s puzzling rise to fame, I still can’t figure out why people think he’s funny. For what it’s worth, I will respect your individual sense(s) of humor and try not to judge.

thedecider on November 4, 2006 at 12:41 PM

I knew dem Jooooooos killed off the dinosaurs! This guy is a genius. Even the uber-creative (NOT) Dems hadn’t thought that one up! This is the first movie since Team America that’s made me want to go sit in a stinky theater.

This guy is an equal opprtunity offender, which makes it more a test of the viewer’s objectivity than anything. The scene in the rodeo proves to me that this movie shows Americans to be by far the most tolerant people in the world; If he did that in 90% of the other countries in the world he wouldn’t have walked out alive…

JEFF_IN_NC on November 4, 2006 at 1:09 PM

To say that SBC is a one hit wonder is a bit odd. He has been very popular in the UK and Europe (and somewhat here) for a number of years now. Also, Cohen doesn’t care if you’re left, right, sideways or upside down–he isn’t political, he’s an equal-opportunity funny man. His premise is genius and was so popular in the UK he had to come over here because everyone figured him out.

When Ali-G interviewd Ralph Nader I was in tears.

robblefarian on November 4, 2006 at 1:13 PM

Also, he can get away with the Jew jokes becasue well…he’s Jewish and he’s making a not-so subtle point.

robblefarian on November 4, 2006 at 1:14 PM

Yawn.

Borat: The Saga of a European Secular Progressivist’s Journey Through the Vastness of America; Wherein Sacha Baron Cohen’s Creation “Borat” Insulates Cohen From Any Real Contact With Real People – Thus Cohen Enters The US With A Pocketful Of Preconceptions, Derides The Populace Accordingly And (Owing to the Insulating Powers Of “Borat”) Exits The Country With All His Preconceptions Intact. Plus, a Shitload of Dollars. Which, as a proper wealthy Euro-Progressive, Cohen will consult with Bono about sheltering.

Rumored SBC quote, “Self-deprecation? Haven’t you ever heard of TV giant Bill Maher? Best selling author Al Franken? Self-deprecation? Who do you think I am Richard Pryor or Sam Kinison? Self-deprecation, I don’t even think like that.”

You guys go ahead and laugh at this anti-smite but I am not getting on the band wagon. I cannot stand him do not find his shock humor funny at all.

I canceled my subscription to HBO when they put this pile of crap on and wrote them a letter about defining the limits of entertainment to new low.

My 2 cents

Debbie Schlussel was not amused with his movie either:

“Borat”: The Joke’s on You, America

Here is another funny video in which Borat meets a typical Texan rancher!

Cohen is a great conceptual comedian, treading a bit close to the edge of cruelty to make his point, but the interviews he did with his Ali G persona are dead on funny. As for self-depracation, SBC goes for the jugular, no doubt. I’d love to see him interview Debbie Schlussel.

If I’m going to read a conservative Jewish female’s blog, I think Pamela is much better looking. Besides, in ‘04 Debbie told me (at a pro-Bush appearance by Ed Koch) that I shouldn’t vote for Bush.

Schlussel’s been trying to manufacture herself into a media personality for years. I think her current personna is sort of a deranged man’s Ann Coulter.

Didja see him on SNL?

“Live from New York, home of the Jew, it’s Saturday Night!”

Bad Penny on November 5, 2006 at 1:18 AM

Saw Borat last night in London. Was clearly hilarious, and I haven’t had such a good laugh in a long time. I thought that “Throw the Jew down the well” performance would have been included, but it wasn’t.

The movie is relatively short and perhaps the first half is better than the last half. It sort of loses a bit of steam towards the end.

She was right, GWB is not a conservative and has even out spent LBJ, left the borders wide open, fought the war against Islamists with Politically Correct failure, arresting our Border Agents, prosecuting our solders, allowing Condi to stop Israel in defending itself against Hamas…

I could go on and on but because of GWB, we will loose the house and senate.

Tancredo for President

For those who haven’t sene it

Wow! I haven’t seen ’seen’ draw a scene like ’sene’ has seen.

Ugly on November 6, 2006 at 3:23 AM

The Dems search high and low for a vet that is against the war, and they find some and trot them all over the MSM. Boar-rat finds, after months of shooting, some ignorant racists and trots them all over the moving screen. When he finds good people, he still makes fun of them. The Dems find good people and ridicules them (most any one of faith). If you search hard enough you will find pathetic people in all walks of life. What makes him so different from the thugs that kick the homeless man on the street?

right2bright on November 6, 2006 at 11:56 AM

I discovered Borat/Ali G/ Boris during the past few weeks, and I must say the man’s a genius. Having no TV I sought his stuff out online and laughed till the tears came.

The two things that struck me the most were his quickness and ability to play off his “subjects”, but especially the pomposity/elitism of a few, like Andy Rooney or Donald Trump. These types cannot be upstaged, and when they sense they might be getting close, their narcissism shuts down the “interview”. NO sense of humor.

Many years ago I remember working in a lumberyard millwork shop where the minimum charge was a whopping $15. Andy Rooney came in and made quite a stink….He squeeled like a stuck pig because he didn’t want to spend the $15! I swear.

My 13 year old son saw Borat this weekend. He agreed that the only problem w/ the movie was that it was difficult to hear sometimes because the entire theater was laughing so hard.

People who are offended, especially by Ali G’s “interviews”, simply don’t have any ability to laugh, are too sensitive, or are simply not people I’d have any fun with! B O R I N G.

Lighten up. Laugh a little. Life’s too short.

Jimmyboy1 on November 6, 2006 at 12:42 PM

Why are so many people wasting our time with this idiot?

Is this what humor has become?
